    This is the most amazing explanation on internal energy use for Tai Chi.Thank you for sharing the knowledge unselfishly and unconditionally.

    Nice presentation of a Tai chi Master unusually rapid and alternatively using Jin and Jan forces making the opponent spin as put by the partner "like in a "washing maschine". Yet, an example of master level against a less trained one. What begininners would appreciate is some gradation by skill levels. Best regards,
    Paul, 68

      Thank you for the feedback! I will have a series of videos on striking in Tai Chi that will be more helpful for beginners to develop skill. Some of the topics will include:
      The Three Yang Fists
      The Two Yin Fists
      Developing Yang Jin
      Developing Yin Jin
      Applications from the Form
      I hope you enjoy the videos when they are presented. I appreciate your comment! 🙏

    Great video! I have a question for you: how would you apply this technique when you and an opponent are wearing gloves in a ring? How are you able to get that skin rolling affect you talk about when you cant make long contact while wearing gloves?

      You wouldn't. Tournament fights are for ego trippers trying to make money off of violence.

      I made a video to illustrate usage with gloves for you!

    How would you deal with, (from a Yang Tai chi style) if someone surprises you and has both hands wrap around your neck?

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  Год назад +1

      That's an interesting and important question. Are they in front of you, behind you, or side of you? Are they intending to hold, to strangle, or to take you somewhere?

      To strangle you from the front.@@phoenixmountaintaichi

      @marcdesrochers1250 Thank you for clarifying. First you want to protect your neck, no matter what method you choose. You can tuck and sink or you might rotate your neck so both thumbs are not directly crushing the vulnerable part of your neck.
      Apply Splitting Jin and rubbing force along their arm or face to rotate their force and alignment. Once you've neutralized their force you can follow up with your strike or take down. Perhaps Ban Lan Chui (parry, block and punch) or Lou Xi Ao Bu (brush knee twist step).
      Take a look at this great video from another channel and you can consider how applying Tai Chi energies of Kao, Cai, and Lie can help you perform something similar and effective.

      If you're curious as to how Chen Tai Chi might approach this, take a look at this video from our channel. I show something that can be applied in this situation at 1:40, just imagine that both their hands are on you at the same time.

    Great video, thanks. This quality of going along the surface, would you say that is the defining characteristic of lieh? I'm still learning about it, but so far I took lieh to mean splitting as in going in opposing directions. Like in white crane spreads its wings, how one arm goes up and the other goes down.

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  Год назад

      Yes you are right to understand that Lieh often travels in opposing directions. That is a geometry that you will often see with Lieh. Aside from the direction of travel, you can also consider what is the direction that the internal force travels.
      Consider a car, externally, the car travels forward in a straight line. Internally however there are engine pistons that go up and down, and the wheels that conduct this power spin in circles. So you might initially see that a car travels in a straight line and you'd be right to realize that underneath the hood it's more than what's apparent, because the internal energy does many other interesting actions!
      Because of this distinction, the quality of applying energy along the surface is called the shu (術) of Lieh. In the inner door teachings of the Yang family they say that techniques, zhaoshu (招數), are composed of zhao (招) the external geometry and movement, and the shu (術) the method of controlling shen (spirit), yi (intent), and qi (energy). And it is the shu that is often the missing link to people's mastery of Tai Chi. I'll keep sharing more of these shu in the videos to come so that people who love Tai Chi can enjoy their practice more completely and beneficially! Thank you for your comment and being a part of this awesome community!

      Thank you immensely @@phoenixmountaintaichi, I've learned a lot from your videos over the last week. The 90º kao thing and the peng explanation video about the donut shape were especially useful! I'm envious of the folks who live nearby and are able to train with you in person. There aren't many schools of good quality here, in any of the arts I practice :(

      @@inmemoryofin it's true that it can be hard to find the right school. But with your interest and dedication and all the information out there, I'm sure you will continue to learn and grow. You've already learned and grown in the weeks of watching and reflecting. I wonder what new knowledge you will discover, and what new understanding you may have overlooked before, as you continue your journey? It'll be great as you find out! 🙏
