I'm currently a school bus driver. Been in that line of work for 3 years and 1 month. Air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements with a clean driving record and current DOT physical certification. Used to driving a class b vehicle and maneuvering through small spaces and backing in already. The school bus gig pays slightly less (about $4/hour) than the trash truck and there are no benefits where I'm from. I'll only take on another really physical job if I'm guaranteed to make at least middle class income. My WM driver didn't pick up our trash because WM said our street wasn't plowed (yet all the neighbors were able to drive on the road), this is why I don't have their service anymore.
It’s because these trucks ain’t as powerful as they look. I get stuck at the landfill all the time while cars and trucks are just blowing through it with no problem. It’s real dangerous for these trucks to be out on ice roads cause they don’t stop like cars do and being in a neighbor hood makes it more dangerous. garbage from one garbage can to the next garbage can chunking it in as I go, seems like this is the place for me where do I sign on?
Yes this is where i want to work. I am at MTA now in Nashville TN. Would like to relocate to Huntsville TN. Need work by or in Knoxville TN. I have CDL B with airbreaks and passenger endorsement.
I have incoming interview for class A driver on May 20,2022 in the Palmdale landfill, hope get in, over 3 years, in recycling field, ♻️ so kind of familiar, with endup trucks, roll-off,walking floor and super 10.
Did you get the job?
They didn’t mention how the drivers have a high turnover rate.
This is a very physical job. I applied to be a driver they made me tip. I dint even know how to turn the truck on
What do you mean physical? Like labor ? As a driver ??
It's so hard to get hired as a loader I've been trying to get in with prioty waste, gfl environmental, waste management for months now. Someone hire me as. Loader I'm in Detroit mi
Minute man of Dearborn for gfl of the Wayne yard.
If they're only paying $25/hr. to wake up 3 hours earlier in the morning and bust my body up for over 10 hours per day or longer, they can keep that. It may sound good to a younger man but I'm getting older and I want to be able to move around by the time I reach retirement age.
I just barely got my CDL Class A a week ago, I was thinking about applying to this job. I didn't know it was this physically strenuous.
@@KingEgyptian Yes. It's nonstop physical activity. I've seen multiple videos of their daily job and they're lifting, bending, reaching, throwing endless loads of trash into the truck in all types of weather with garbage water and waste splashing all over them. I've heard that the driver is supposed to participate in all of that too.
@@kwp9270 I used to be a mailman, so physical work in harsh weather is something I'm familiar with. Do you know of any other trucking jobs that are not as physical?

Been thinking about it as well. Garbage doesn't give you any lip. Went for an interview a few years ago and they never even came out to get me for the interview. I was early. Waited an hour. Then after they still didn't interview me. So I left. Hour and a half wait. Seems if they want someone, they would be punctual. Like they would expect their employees to be. I was always taught that you show up like you want the job, dressed for an interview, and be early. And like you, I drive city bus.
I'm currently a school bus driver, & soon to be a single mom with three kids (10 & 8 yr old twins). My life's dynamics are changing, I need to step my financial game up. Seriously considering WM. I have read through all of these comments; is WM as negative as people are making them sound? Is this a job where there's no family/work balance? Most likely to not see my kids much? I don't have any family where I'm living, so wondering if I would be able to swing this job & still be able to be a mother to my kids.
In order to make over 100k your going to have to do overtime. Most routes are long and hard. We have women working here too. Normaly you start at 530 and work to at least 330. Some time I get out at 730 pm. If you want the money the work is there but the work does not do its self. By the time you get done you are beat. If you have the energy to work hard for 12 to 14 hrs then go home and work there too the my hat goes out to you. When I'm done with work I'm done.
Best wishes.
