  • The gentle grazing of a bull elk in Jasper National Park, Alberta. There are four types of elk in North America. In Jasper, the Rocky Mountain elk reign supreme. There was a time where elk were the most wide spread member of the deer family in North America, numbering in the tens of millions. By the 1900s, this number was reduced to about 100,000. Today, they have bounced back to 1 million, with about 375 elk living in the park (according to Parks Canada)
