  • Here is what I think of these headphones two years on. This time a little less FanBoy and a little more realistic review.

I think you're romanticising the H9's. The H9 is good but the sound quality in the H95 is substantially better. Much clearer and a better controlled bass.
They are not perfect - They are heavy, the case is useless for travelling etc. But the sound quality is among the best in wireless ANC headphones only rivalled by a few such as BW PX8 and similar.

Most people don’t realize that you also have to wait out a burn in period, where you have to play music through them for a couple of weeks up to a couple of months to let the drivers finally sound their best, that’s why you see people giving out opinions as soon as they open them out and sometimes they’re just blunt about how they tried them and they still preferred some older models. I’ve been using the h95’s and at first they made it feel a bit pointless compared to using my dt990’s open back headphones, but they’ve been getting better, at least at reproducing my sound the way I want to hear it. And the noise cancelling is subtle yet powerful enough to provide an excellent listening environment in the city, it removes all the hum we barely even percieve but that tends to mask the bass as well as the clarity and sharpness from everything else in the mix. The sound is second to nothing else, although I must say, playing music in the car is far more enjoyable, but it’s not like I would ever want to work on a mix in a car because it simply won’t let you hear what’s actually going on. Some people will opt for clarity, other people will opt for warmth, punch, sound pressure, crunch, distortion, etc… you name it, but if you just move the settings on these h95 to energetic (all the way to the right) it sounds a lot more like what people like to hear in a live setting, the center of the settings is much closer to a studio setting. I recommend these if you’re gonna be walking around calling people on the street and sometimes starting out song ideas, as well as listening to music on noisy environments. I don’t really regret my purchase. I still like listening to music on my airpods pro 2nd gen, and their form factor might be more convenient for most casual listeners, but for more hardcore listeners and music producers, these make a great presentation card if you want to let someone have a fair taste of what your music sounds like without an expensive PA system to leave a solid impression, if the music you listen to doesn’t sound better than the music you can make on these, it will tell you where there’s room for improvement, and when it’s ready you won’t need to struggle showing others the quality of music you can make, it’ll also translate properly to your car and make it even more enjoyable.
In detail: For those that want to still throw shade on these H95’s and compare them to any other headphone… Whatever you say guys. I’ve had these for a few weeks and at first they felt a bit more than just neutral and let me hear more than they should have; everything seemed loud in all frequencies, where I spotted details of songs I know by heart that I didn’t even know were there, but a few weeks later, everything has switched back to a much more natural response, and the more I use them, the more familiar they sound. As far as mixing and mastering goes, I’m usually swapping between h95, beyer dynamics 990dts (open back) and I opted to just buy some goaux 4 speakers for portability for reference. Since these are all the more tuneable media I’ve found to get a better understanding of flat response and ‘neutral sound’, while also being portable. The noise cancelling can be critical for assessing bass levels, because even in smaller towns, there is always city hum, that we get used to and can’t really listen to, so open back headphones don’t really help get a good idea of how much actual bass there is in a mix, but the stereo imaging is difficult to judge from just listening to cans. I find myself the most comfortable starting out a mix with noise cancelling on with my volume level around 50% on the H95’s since they’re loud enough to work with, then adjust my mid/sides using the reference monitors and play back songs side by side. What I can tell you is that these are very accurate for a clean reproduction of media, very easy to spot out flaws in a mix because they let you ‘zoom in’ by isolating the frequencies that would normally hide the little details. The only 2 things that would make these better would be to have a way to emulate a particular car’s frequency response through callibration, there’s still no specific setting using ‘realphones’ software for these yet, which might be a deal maker once it’s released, specially if it’s built in collaboration with B&O so you can run a callibration curve from your car wearing these from a listening position seamlessly, which is totally possible with this hardware using the integrated microphones, but we’ll call that a unicorn outcome for now. The other thing might be the padding, me and others agree wearing these brand new tend to give a little bit of pain in the head after wearing them for about an hour, requires taking breaks often. And… I think that’s all I gotta say for now.

Hi Ethan, I remember your first video about these. They were out of my price range but I bought the B&O HX. (I took your advice and waited for the “timber” colour) Have had them for two years now and still love them. Also have the in-ear EX which I agree are fantastic and I use them every day but am slightly disappointed with the noise-cancelling which is completely ineffective. Good luck in your new home!

@@EthanFromLondon Yes, very practical, great sound, a lot of bass if you tweak the eq. I have large ears so round earcups rest on lobes rather than encompass them but they are still fairly comfortable. Also for a new buyer they can now be bought for less than plasticky alternatives from Beats, Bose etc.

Great review. I have a set of Bowers and Wilkins headphones, they are beautifully designed and far smaller than those. The sound quality is exceptional ( can’t compare them to yours obviously in sound quality) Money/cost isn’t always a guarantee of superior sound/design quality as you’ve found. I’ve found the same issue with earbuds, a ‘name’ doesn’t necessarily result in the best sound quality, seems more about being seen with a particular product than actually having something that’s exceptional, Apple springs to mind! Your taste is without question, keep up the great work and stay happy!

Hi Ethan, thanks for the honesty! I have a 1000 EUR Mark Levinson 5909. They're great but nowhere near as great as they're priced. Sound quality, comfort, convenience: you get at least 80% of that in a Sony 1000XM5 for one third of the price. I wanted the 5909 because sound quality wise there is no better Bluetooth headphone on the market. But now, after more than a year of using them, I would actually go back in time and just buy a Sony and be content with those. Oh, and that carrying case for the B&O is truly ridiculous, what were they thinking?! Anyway, stay safe!

I was going to purchase these, however I’m stuck thinking a new pair may come out with updated technology and if I even need them, currently on sale for £600 at John Lewis I thought it seems pretty good I haven’t tried them on and I was considering buying them. Now I’m not too sure?

I don’t think B&O will release a new version soon due to their upcoming 100 year anniversary being in less than 2 years time. This product was released for their 95th anniversary. Would be very expensive for them to release two model upgrades with short period of time unless they can keep the same tooling for making the product.

I've used the B&O h8 purchased long time back, exceptional quality and great product. Lasted gor a really long time as well, prior to that I had the bang and olufsen ear phones purchased long time ago and they were phenominal, they came in a leather cover, i feel the quality has diminished after they introduced the B&O play brand, I feel they are now focussed on volumes and price rather than delivering the worlds best sound. Its a far cry from the golden days when you said bang and olufsen, it meant worlds best sound.

It’s so hard to get an honest opinion for a costly niche device that I’ve ended up with some shoddy options. Thus, Im here

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 does not have multi point meaning auto switch from laptop to call by it self. Compared to Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra. H95 use old bluetooth 5.1. How does Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 compare with Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra?

I own these and I can honestly say I love them, the noise cancellation was better than the noise cancellation in the Sennheiser momentum threes that I previously owned. Also, they’re very comfortable. They fold up which is a big one for me because I Uber a lot so having some thing that folds Perfect and yes to me they are very comfortable. I like the padding at the top of the headband. I find the sound quality to be very well balanced, but I pretty much listen to pop music and EDM music so I don’t know if this helps but personally for myself I love them.

Thank you for your honesty and kindness ! This is an amazing review. I still want to buy those one day since I kinda collection headphones lol ! but... yah
I tried them in a shop once... those headphones are AMAZING..ly weird. lol !
The style is pretty... defininitly a collection piece ! The price is insane really... Why not blend real gold at this point lol... if its just a show piece then... go all in lol !
The sound is ok... Pretty decent to very good !... lack a lot of bass and the volume is meh... the build quality is way too cheap for the price if I compare them to Bowers and wilkins !
In the end I ended up taking the Bowers and wilkin Px7s2... But even those have some heavy flaws... they all have ! lol ! Seriously, if you have the money don't buy just one pair of headphone if headphones are so important to you ! I don't have a lot of money and still I rather pay more for 3 main pair of headphones (Gaming / ANC / Sound Quality)... and even on top of that you can add studio headphones lol... because the sound details is important and isn't made for consumers (Again, IF its important to you).... AND Gaming headphones too ugh... That's a very annoying category in my opinion, I find it ridiculous that I cannot use my Bowers and wilkins for gaming... I feel like all headphones should be able to connect to Xbox, Switch and PS5 voice chats.... this shouldn't be a category that people need to throw money at especially if its casual gaming, Styling also may be a bad category but its important TO ME lol !
Ideally 2 main pairs of headphones in my opinion should be the norm for music entousiasts maybe an Open back headphone or wired one and a Bluetoooth one.
Sorry for the rant lol, I really get heated about this topic, its annoying that after ALL those years and ALL the technology.... we still have very imperfect headphones as they disapear and get replaced by earbuds lol !
But being knowledgable about the topic makes you realize that its not the goals of the companies (Sure some companies may be just... bad) but the choices made, the sound signatures, the style, The ANC and... NO NOT the "Inability to connect to voice chat"... this is not justifiable lol! The rest is unfortunately often justifiable.
Why not real gold? its heavier.
Why not prettier? The balance may be thrown off.
Why not a better ANC? The sound quality can be affected.
Why not more bass? Depend on your preferances but it more than probably will heavily affect one tone.
Why not clearer? You bought a Sony headphones... made for the general public... Its made for the popular tracks, not classical or reggae or such.
    ect ect.
