Wheeler Mountain to Hanging Valley

A summer hike, combining grassland tracks, backroads, trails, routes, and bushwhacking. From Lac du Bois, I hiked the Upper Grasslands Track, then the Wheeler Mountain Road, then a grown-over track, an off-trail steep descent, and another grassland track back up to the lake. Some of the hike was on difficult terrain and some on a good route. Always exploring...

used to hunt up around there a lot! lots of white tail and a very healthy typical mule deer buck gene pool. i got one big one off wheeler and almost a bigger one off opax. the reason a lot of deer are in there is because its the closest portion of dense forest to town...they tend to walk around in the grasslands at night, even come down into town and eat human vegetation. bears too actually, theres bear dens on the mountain above westsyde above long lake...what a gorgeous area though for sure enjoy. thanks for the vid brings back memories.
