    I made a video breaking down how I add visual effects to my basketball highlight b roll footage on this channel almost a year ago. Since then I have had tons of questions about how I use the Video CoPilot After Effects plug-in Saber in my basketball highlight videos. That video has been steadily gaining interest since I released it, so I decided that I should provide an update going over the specific steps and techniques that I used when I’m adding VFX to sports videos using the Saber plug-in by Video CoPilot in Adobe After Effects!

    I guess a mask does make sense for a smaller object like a ball. For larger objects or longer edits, I like to roto the object and then auto trace it. It’s nice seeing different techniques.

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  2 года назад +1

      Yeah definitely both good ways, I’ve just found that for this specific use case the mask works better but auto trace can be very clutch

I haven’t personally used that camera so I can’t speak from first hand experience but I have used similar handycams before and based on the specs of that camera and reviews it should work as a serviceable beginner camera for sports videos in reasonable lighting conditions.

      File > Export > Add to render queue, then render it out and bring the .mov file that exports into Premiere. You can also use dynamic link in Premiere to get into After Effects if you want and then when you save in AE it will update in Premiere

    Hey Peter, I've been having issues trying to recreate this Saber affect. For some reason when I try to blend the black solid on Linear Dodge the affect is not applying....do you know why this might be an issue. Feel free to reach out anytime...appreciate your incite.

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  2 года назад +1

      Hey Joe, what is the layer beneath your black solid when you’re blending it? Linear dodge will have lighter colours show through and darker colours blended in, so if your background layer is very bright and the Saber effect that you’ve created is very dark for example, then you may have to use a subtractive blending mode like linear burn instead. Either way, I’d suggest playing around with blending modes until you find the one that works for you and gives you the look that you’d like. Let me know if this helps and if any other issues come up.

      I’d have to take a look at your project to really see what the problem is but just off the top of my head, make sure that you have a video layer beneath the Saber layer and make sure that you’re using an additive blending mode. If you still can’t get it to work then try precomposing the Saber layer once you’ve got it looking how you want and then change the blending mode on the precomp.
