As a gay man living in Korea, coming out to some of my friends has resulted in blackmailing, rumors, and chronic anxiety. Coming out to my brothers led them to say "You better never come out to mom and dad they will be so devastated." Can't come out in society cuz in my field of work, ill be fired... Have a boyfriend of 10 years and I still cant hold his hand in public, introduce him to friends or family, or ever dream of getting married. I am 31years old and still unable to come out safely here in Korea yet their "experiment" makes it look so easy... I feel like there could've been a better way to shine a light on these issues without minimizing the struggle we have gone through our entire life.

This is what I was afraid of… that people who had to experience such a thing would watch this and see other people make light of it… that breaks my heart for you and I hope that we can all appreciate that your story is likely what most people are going through… your difficult time matters to me-I truly hope that you can surround yourself with people who only make you stronger… I’m 36 and it took me awhile to realize what healthy relationships were-you need to cut out the toxic people and focus on your mental health. I'm so sorry sweetheart that you're going through that. I pray that you find the right people to be around with and love you for you. I do not agree with videos like this because I think of the struggles people like you face and I have friends in the LGBT community and alot have gone through tough times. I like seeing people for them. Please know you are worth it and valuable and worthy. You're not less of a person to anyone who also reads this. My heart goes out to you. I would have been happier with someone from the community to be in the cast but I think problems could also arise. For example , if they already came out and were accepted by their loved ones it would defeat the purpose of the video. Then there's the gray area where people have been unable to come out to their loved because the society around them aren't accepting or allowing others to love who they love. You will be harassed , even be killed 😢 So I am not comfortable with this idea. I am a straight woman please don't bash me I'm not trying to make this about me. I am a little glad they did this because it is nice to see people being open but I'm still not okay with it because it's not something we joke about. I get their point but still my heart goes out to you and everyone struggling. If I could advice you is it's ok to cut ties with toxic people and toxic environment. I hope one day the world is accepting and loving and do what they preach . You got this sweetheart if Corona wasn't happening I would have loved to meet you in person and listen and appreciate you as a friend for you not for your identity or sexual orientation nor circumstances . Fighting ❤️

As someone who is LGBT, i didn't mind this experiment. I don't believe it was their intention to mock anyone. I actually think it was a good one because you could actually see Heejae and Hoseung thinking about how difficult this can be for LGBT people, which is something that cishet people just don't realize.
But I can understand how some LGBT people found this upsetting, I hope you can include actual LGBT people in your cast in the future so you won't ''easily get away'' with something like a fake coming out.

I love Awesome World, and I love Heejae and Hoseung, but this isn't it. As someone who is actually part of the LGBTQ+ community, coming out is hard. I know you didn't have bad intentions with this video, and you touched upon this in the closing remarks, but please be more mindful of these kinds of "experiments." While the cast may have felt a bit of the nerves that are part of coming out, they don't know the full effect it has, not only on our relationships with family/friends, but also with ourselves. Also, they could easily backtrack and say "oh, surprise! I'm just joking around, I'm not actually gay!" We can't do that and it oftentimes breaks a lot of our relationships because we find out that some of the people we trust the most, don't actually support us fully. I know there are going to be people who say I'm taking this too seriously, but I've had bad experiences with coming out. My friends have had bad experiences with coming out. It's not something that should be joked about or made into an experiment.

But this video showed me that, even though they didn't really come out, they felt vulnerable. I could see they were not fully confident or comfortable, and they were touched by the responses that they got, perhaps even relieved? Of course this might not be true, it is just my personal observation about people I don't know after all. But what it did for me is the part that matters most. When I saw this I thought that when these people feel vulnerable and perhaps even a bit emotional, it must be 10x or a 100x times worse for people who actually have to deal with this for real. And since in my eyes they didn't joke, or aggressively(?) take it all back, it seems respectful. But of course I am not as emotionally involved as people who might be dealing with this situation in their lives. All I can say is that my respect for the people who can muster up that amount of courage in their real life scenario, and put themselves in such vulnerable positions, has grown after watching this video. It is always amazing how a different angle can make such a big difference on what we take away. I hope to learn and grow more like today, but always in a way that feels respectful for the people who are closest to it emotionally. Let's hope one day we can find the perfect way in the middle :)

Absolutely, however I also take into account that there are many closeted people out there that aren't ready to come out so videos like these you can live vicariously through. Just another perspective.

I actually stopped watching months ago because the channel is now all about sex, baiting, and gender (guys vs girls) and it’s just the same stuff repeated over and over. But this just really puts the lid on the coffin. They need a new PD or just to cancel this channel completely. The cast members already appear on other channels so they’re not losing a job or fame.

I was writing a whole *1000* words paragraph here to “confess” my frustration today...
But my Phone has *died* on me so ... here it go...
Long story short, i visited my mom’s house this very morning
We ate breakfast, i told her i wanna be more *taller* ( im 5’5 twink btw)
She told me not to be *childlish and silly* because im the *Oldest* (im 20 btw)
Also she said she *knew* and not to hide from her, its *OK* ....
(My heart pumping happiness , is it the *Time*...?)
And then here it is, she said “not to” watch any *Gay* related staffs (Stay away from Them ... she didnt know that im now watching at least 120+ BoyLove content of movies/ series hahahaha,, Hail to BL )
She told me to *revise* my behavior (like always) *Typical ASIAN MOMMA MODE again*
She said (in a way that Gay is a choice) that *me* choose that way i cannot *have offspring*
...blabla That The *Reason* why i kept my mouth *Shut* (like always) and eat and *tried* to divert her attention by talking random things... blablabla *Typical Serious Politician mode Kinda Som 🤓 *
*pheww* Being *Gay* is challenged indeed ( to Love ones, Others, and Especially *My own self*
I just wanna said im birth to be *Gay*, u knew all along right?!
So why, and how to change my Nature mom?
I don’t need anyone’s approval to be *gay*
I just need only *youuuu* ( not even ur ex husband, my dad)
Because i need *your* future permission to meet and me to marry my Future Belove Husband naaa , mom

The thing with the video is not that they decided to talk and show people's reactions to someone close coming out. The problem is that they can take it back, say that is a joke and keep living their lives. Of course, they were nervous and everything trying to find the words and the correct person to do it, but they will never experience the fear of really coming out, the fear of being rejected by your own family and friends. Your whole life is in danger and you can't take it back, never.

I understand that these conversations are important and that the people who made this video probably had good intentions, but this “experiment” feels a bit insensitive to me. It’s not really “coming out” if it’s not your truth, and it’s a lot easier to laugh about loved one’s various reactions to such news when you know their opinions on the matter don’t really apply to you. It’s just that there are people that have gone through this kind of thing and it’s often really scary and there are no take-backs or saying it was all a joke at the end. I just think those people and their feelings should be considered when making this kind of content in the future.

As someone who is part of the LGBT community, I could understand how this video could be controversial, but I also understand that it wasn’t coming from a bad place. I think it can be difficult sometimes for cishet people to understand what someone feels or has to go through when coming out, as you can see when people like celebrities come out and some are like “So what?”. But if having someone experience even just a fraction of the emotions I felt meant they would have more compassion for the next person that came out to them or even just the LGBT community in general like it did for Them, then I think a video like this can serve a purpose, especially for a country like Korea where things can still be difficult for LGBT people. Thanks Awesomeworld, as others have said it would be cool to see more LGBT perspectives from Korea!

We are disowned, harmed, ostracized, fired and even killed. We (lgbt+) have the actual risk of loosing people from our lives and rejection. From family members, friends and strangers who might hate on us and harm us without even knowing us. It's hard and hurtful because we might not even get accepted by some of the people we care the most.

A lot of people are saying that not all coming out moments are like this, which is obvious. Even at the end they acknowledged it wouldn't be the same as how they did it in this experiment if the circumstances were true. They said themselves that if they actually did like the same gender they would be way more terrified, and acknowledged that if someone came out to them they would take into consideration how much anxiety and pressure that took for them. Even said the older generation isn't as open to it. I don't think the video is belittling what its like or minimizing lgbt problems it's just taking two main casts and using them to experiment how people close to them would react. The two people who were chosen just happened to have supportive people which, I think, is a good thing.

This video isnt to mock but to create empathy.
Like korea is already straight up legit about being not accepting of homosexuality
So to see that these people have thought about how they could respect their friend or family member if they ever came out as gay was refreshing and nice.
The intent wasn't to upset but to show light that this could be a reality for those still in the closet if they have these thoughts or are discovering themselves.
Yes many people have the right to feel upset but instead of channelling negative feelings see this in a positive light.
See that there are accepting people in korea and maybe stop hanging out with people who clearly wont support that.

I get your point but this experiment was very tone deaf... Accepting people exists but it's not the norm and playing it as a prank just to see what happens it's not a great idea.
