Without his mysterious disappearance, I would never have come in contact with his music, as I watch a lot of videos about mysteries and such.. Love the music on this record! 👍
He will be back at some point, coming from nowhere, probably showing up at some small town in the middle of the US desert, feeling a bit dizzy, with blurry memories about an intense light...same look, same age...and his watch stuck, just marking same day, and around an hour later than his last check in that motel in 1975...
@@laurahall3094 Netflix 4400 should have wrote an episode of Jim being returned with some awesome power to help mankind. What a tribute that would have been!!!
I found this album out of nowhere and ended up listening to his whole discography on Spotify. Was obsessed with Jim Sullivan for a good 6 months. One day had the thought, 'why didnt he make more music?' One google search later, I'm in shock and my heart is completely shattered. I felt the loss then- I had imagined him as an old legend who was living peacefully now on his quiet career, perhaps he had joined a band, or retired, or passed away after a long joyful life. Learning that he went missing hit me with fresh shock and mourning, despite the fact he disappeared 50 years ago. What an incredibly talented, touching, one of a kind man. What an absolute tragedy he went missing. I learned about this a year ago and I still think about it.

Until a couple of days ago, when my brother-in-law sent me the link to s recent NY Times article about his disappearance, i had never heard of him. Back in June my wife and I had done something we had never done before on many, many times thru NM, we spent the night in Santa Rosa at the La Mesa motel last place he stayed. I knew one of the ranchers that saw him at his car. Sometimes connections appear, just got to keep looking for them!!!

Masterpiece of an album that still hasn't gotten its due. The last 3 tracks admittedly are a bit less great than the rest, but the first 7 tracks are all A+. Jerome such a hauntingly beautiful track with a perfect mystique and endless replay value, one of my favorite openers ever.
That's the spectrum of any great album (greater songs & lesser songs). Those last 3 complete the whole masterpiece. Excellent from start to finish, imo.

I find it strange they didn’t give him at shot at a record deal at capitol but they gave Dylan a try with a first record of covers. I love Dylan but this record is far better than his debut and honestly has a really unique and haunting sound (not due to the disappearance) but in the compositions and way he sings in a hopeless but completely connected way to the music.
This is the re release from the original monnie records release, he also issued the UFO album on century records which is supposed to have a different audio mix. Just to add, I've just created a thing about Jim and Connie Converse, its in my latest up load on here September 2021
You know, each song has some good lines or bones or something, but then some committees need a quorum about how to determine how much cowbell happens and I know a lot of artists have to pay their dues like this, it’s sad we lost him before we saw the best of him.
I agree with your opinion Susan. Your take on his songs on this album precisely has been my thoughts since I first discovered him about a year ago. They are dated but that's to be expected however I think he was on the right track til his disappearance.
I think he was murdered by a cop who pulled him over who hated hippies. He told his wife in his last call to her something about being delayed and that he was fine, she wanted to know what that meant and he replied you wouldn’t believe it if I told you. Than they found a body months later who fit his description but the authorities had no way to prove it was him because they didn’t have dna then. But why would his belonging all be left untouched in his car and he just vanished? I prefer to think it was an alien abduction. I suspect his family does too. This has members of the Wrecking Crew playing in the background. They are incredible. Some of these arrangements are very complex.

Not a “ghost” town though it’s population is a fraction of what it was when the mine was booming. It’s actually a hauntingly beautiful town well worth visiting to this day. Gorgeous views, shops, small saloons and lodging. Iconic
It's not that bad. Hahaha. But nothing like certain expectations overturned in an instant. Kinda like a slap upside the head. No time to adjust to any recovery
Even without knowing about what happened to him, this album has a melancholic feel about it, even if some tunes are upbeat. A sadness behind it all.
