It's hard to beat the old Craftsman tools. I can't believe how scratched up the new set is. Thanks Jeff great series
That was crazy how scratched up the set was!! nothing like the old ones!!! thanks mike!!!
Old craftsman is the only one I'd even look at.
Cant say i blame ya starship!!!! stay tuned!!!!! thanks!!!
I have the old craftsman from late 70s....still get the job done wi no issues. No reason to even consider the new ones. Love the idea of this series. Keep up the great content!
Thanks ron for joining in and sharing with the channel!! there alot more coming, stay tuned!!!
Thanks Jeff. Love my 40+ year old Craftman wrenches. Hurts to hold the new ones.
Hang on to your old ones my friend!! these new ones are nothing to get excited about that for sure!!!
Wow, there is a big difference. I love my old ones and still use them.
Yea pete and you also picked up a bunch i see!!! nice tool haul my friend!!
My dad still uses the old craftsmans, I will be honored one day to own those wrenches myself.
Hi tim i love hearing that, father to son stories!! i bet some day youll pass them to your son as well!! those old wrenches were built to last!! thanks tim!!!
I have the old craftsman from late 70’s early 80’s, they have served me well. The raised panels never bothered me either.
Thanks jannear for joining in!! everybody wants the old craftsman tools now!! i myself am always looking for them at yard sales!! thanks and stay tuned, lots more coming in this series!!!!
Love my old Craftsman tools 90's era. I have a couple wrenches that were my great grandpa's with the long c underlined from the 40's
I just acquired one of those old wrenches. I never seen one before.
Hi matt you got some history there with your grandpas 40 era wrenches!! thanks for sharing!!!!
Awesome find pete!!!!
I sure miss my old usa craftman. I was so proud of having a huge collection. They seem to have some good stuff and some bad stuff now days being made overseas. Good stuff Jeff keep up the great reviews
Hi shawn yea the old craftsman was good!! today well its just not the same!!altough the new v-series wrenches are good!! thanks my friend!!
Got a small set of old craftsman. Thanks for the video
Yea id hang on to those!!! thanks for joining in!!
Never did I think that I would look at my craftsman wrenches the way that I do now. Thanks Jeff
Hang on to those babies, eveybody wants the old ones now!!! thanks marc for joining in!!
Love my old craftsman
Hi warren those were the days!!!! hang on to them!! thanks my friend!!
Craftsman wrenches have been my go to set since I was a kid. Got a full set in my box, got a set stuck to a magnet on my bench, and got a set in the truck. All vintage sets SAE and metric. Pretty sure they cost less than 26 bucks a set.
Yea lots of us grew up with the vintage craftsman wrenches!! it seemed like everybody used them!! they just dont make um like they used to!!! thanks my friend for sharing your experence with the brand!!
I have some old craftsman, I don’t use them much anymore but they are solid. Thanks Jeff, take care
Hang on to those old ones my friend!!
I have the old set. Never had any complaints. The majority of your work is done with a ratchet so the wrenches were only used occasionally when there were clearance issues.
Great look at old vs new! Its a shame what has become of craftsman.
Sure is Rob!!!! thanks as always!!!!!
Thanks, Jeff!
This series is going to get interesting!!! i keep adding more to the list, lol!! stay tuned, thanks my friend!!!
Been using the Old Craftsman raised panel since I was a kid.
Love hearing that bacon!!!!! there going to be alot more coming!!!!!
This looks like it is going to be a good series, Craftsman old stock has always been in my house. And for those that are not subscribed, you are missing out on his honest review of current tools and there availability.
Thanks john i appreciate your support!!!! this will be my biggest series yet!!!!!! stay tuned!!!!!
My Dad gave me a set of Craftsman VA series wrenches for my 16th birthday in 1998 both metric and SAE, which I still have to this day. I own lots of "modern " wrench sets from Tekton, Gear wrench, Snap on to name a few which are arguably better quality than Craftsman but these old Craftsman wrenches will always be some of my favorites...
Hi my friend i hear ya,the old craftsman will always have a place in my heart as well!! stay tuned i think youll really like this series!!!
Thanks, Jeff! Great comparison of old vs. new. I’m blind in one and can’t see out of the other! Join the crowd! 😂
Lots of us are blind, lol!! it only gets worse over timelol!!
I have this set, they were a gift 5 or 6 years ago from my dad who got them on sale for $10 at the local Ace hardware.
They still frequently have these on sale for $10.
For $10 they're well worth it and anybody can find a place for them but I'd never pay more than that.
Hi tyler good to hear your thoughts on the new ones!! yea $10 sounds about what the new ones are worth, lol!! stay tuned this series is going to be huge!!!
I have plenty of them old craftsman at home and at work i have the old craftsman professional polished wrenches made by Armstrong
Oh the polished ones i never had, wished i picked them up!! thanks my friend!!
My co worker had old crafts man wrenches and they seem real solid and good tolerances
They were decent wrenches back in the day!! mine are 40 years old and still going strong!! thanks my friend for joining in!!!
This series should be interesting
Hi marko there some good ones coming!!! stay tuned!!!
New subscriber. I like what I've been seeing on your channel. I prefer the vintage USA stock made, over the newer. Great video .
Thanks my friend for supporting the channel!!! i love vintage craftsman as well!! stay tuned, much more coming!!!
Sticking with my old made in USA Craftsman wrenches
Louis you are smart!!! thanks for always joining in!!
It looks like Stanley Black and Decker have taken steps to "soften" the beams on the new wrenches. They've lowered the raised panels and squared of the edges of the beams so as not to dig into the hands. The older US raised panels tended to have sharp edges on the panels and the beams had quite a bit of taper which could get uncomfortable. I have a set of US made metric S-K raised panel combination wrenches that feel great in the hand. They have nicely rounded edges. The original V raised panel wrenches had sharp points on the box ends so the tolerance had to be tighter to try and prevent rounding fasteners. Towards the end of US production, the box ends were broached with rounded points for off corner loading, copying Snap-on's Flank Drive. These style box ends tend to have a little slop so that the flat area of the box will engage the flat areas of the fastener rather than the corners. A little "slop" helps the wrench to fit on rust swollen nut and bolt heads. One thing I've noticed is that the finish on the Chinese wrenches looks "cheap". Almost as if the wrenches were sprayed with aluminum paint from a spray can.
Could you possibly review Autozone's Duralast combination wrenches? They are reasonably priced and readily available.
Thanks as always for the great reviews Jeff!
It seems like everybody copied snap on with the off corner loading!! there a few in this series that have no off corner loading,no cambfer at all!! thanks lieser for your take!!!
@@jefftovani5535 snap on also copied the off corner loading.
The old V ones have a definite clink to them and the new ones have more of a clank. Maybe just in my mind be I swear I could identify them blindfolded.
Hi patrick i bet you could tell the difference blindfolded, lol!! thanks pat for joining in!!!
The old style u s a, all day long , Amazing to see the difference in snuggness on the head of that bolt , And how about , The old u s a craftsman pro series , the one that smooth with no raised panel , Oh yeah me too jeff , I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other lol , Enjoy your weekends sir !
I never bought the old pro series, which i did!!! these new ones will be given to a friend i dont like much, lol!! thanks my friend!!
No comparison looks like apple's to oranges Jeff I sure hope you are getting paid for ads I have been watching most of them keep them coming thanks 👍😎👍
Hi pieman i am monitized so yes i get paid when you watch my videos and ads!!! i really appreciate your support pieman!! its subscribers like you that keep me motivated!!! thanks my friend!!!!!
I still have most of my Craftsman combination wrenches from the 1970's and 80's. I do have a few of the more recent ones made offshore. I prefer the older USA made, but the newer ones are OK. I have some of my dad's Craftsman that are older than that and still great.
Thanks for the video, Jeff!
Hi bruce its nice to hear you have some older ones!! thanks for joining in!!!
You got to be kidding me with those scratches/grinder marks! Yikes, send them back!!! Those tolerances are way larger also.
Hi stefan i should return them!! i had a nephew who wants them, hes 12 years old!!! thanks for joining in my friend!!!!
My brain saw the title as Old Man Wrenches at first. Like dang, Jeff I have some of those USA wrenches. 😂
Hi sam every once in a while when i get a chance i throw in some old craftsman tools!! lots of you guys have them!!! they will always have a place in my heart!!! thanks mg friend!!
I wish I could buy the older good quality craftsman USA stuff. By the time I was getting old enough to start wrenching there quality was going down hill and shortly after got bought out and really tanked. Now that I do it professionally I go towards Proto, snap on, and Wright. I just like the idea that you could get decent quality USA made tools at affordable price for the house or to keep in the car.
Yea there not what they used to be no doubt!! this should be a good series my friend!! thanks for joining in!!
Their new V series wrenches are sure nice. Though very obviously closely related to Mac, USAG, and Facom (and who knows what other SBD relatives)
I bought a couple of these in rolls though just for the rolls themselves.
Yea they will be in the series!!!! stay tuned!!!
Vintage Craftsman is way better then the most of new raised panel. Some sets are better then other sets almost like they are coming from multiple supplies.
I think your rite papa!!!
I'm not big on new Craftsman. They'd be OK for someone just starting out in a career. I'd upgrade after putting back enough money, though.
Hi shadow this is going to be a good series!!!! stay tuned and yea i agree with you on the new craftsman!!
Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I have lots in this series!!! the list keeps growing, lol!! thanks tom!!!
The 13mm stamping on the open end of the new Craftsman looks like it done by hand with punches purchased from Harbor Freight 🤣. Hard as they may try to duplicate the old Craftsman they're missing the point entirely. They're not made in USA
Hi rob,yea these are not even close, like the old ones, like you said!! thanks for taking a look!!!
Old over new for me with craftsman
Hi jason you know your tools!!
@@jefftovani5535 I should buddy 👍😉. Been an auto tech for 28 years
I've thought about buying new Icon's or others with the new anti-slip teeth but I've been using my fathers Craftsman from the 60's since I was a kid without issue and now their mine. The ones I bought in the eighties are good too.
Youngin's go to a garage/estate sale, you can probably get em for a buck or two ea.and better than anything you'll get at Lowes today.
Hi apple your spot on!!!!!! im always looking for old stock myself at yard sales!!!!! thanks my friend for joining in!!
If it's said once, it's been said a million times. It's a damn shame the decline of Craftsman tool quality.
The raised panel wrenches were never the best looking, sexy tools like the pro series. But you knew they were good and tough and dependable. As for some of the new stuff, so far I really like the my gun metal combo wrenches. They've not give me any reason to doubt their quality yet. Really the only reason I bought them is Lowe's had them on clearance (11 pc sets) less than $30 and they had that little extra length. Great video Jeff, thanks for the side by side comparison.
Yea it sucks what happened to craftsman!! i never so the gun metal wrenches doug, sounds like a good deal you got!! are those the overdrive series?
@jefftovani5535 they have the waves in the open end kinda like the Capri wave drive wrenches, but the box end is not like the rbrt extractor style box end. They look mostly like a normal box end but slightly different. They have a good fit on fastners, I just think they dropped that design for the new V series design. But they are longer like the V series and the Capri and matco rbrt.
Great comparison Jeff you just can't beat vintage usa I would spend double on ebay before id buy some of this new junk from china but if its all you can afford definitely don't break the bank but definitely a set you would just throw in your car and hope you dont need them especially if you live in the rust belt thanks for the comparison my friend
Hi don always like hearing your take on it!! most of us older guys grew up with craftsman!! damn shame whats going on in todays tool world!! thanks don!!!
@jefftovani5535 you're welcome Jeff I agree what a shame
I love tekton
Great waranty!! quality tools!! thanks my friend!!
I have a old set of Craftsman probably 25 years ago.
Hang on to those babies!!!!! thanks jenn as always!!!
👍👍👍
thanks harry!
I will post a picture of my set in my community . They look a lot better then your new set and I have been using these for few years.
Ok papa i will take a look!!!
It seems obvious that the older Craftsman wrenches are better finished than the new ones - I'm not at all surprised. I'll be interested to see what you make of the Carlyles - those were my standard combo wrench set in my workshop roll cab for a while, but I've gone over to Milwaukee now, due to getting a killer deal on the full standard-jaw set. I also have a smaller set of the MaxBite ratchet wrenches, and they're great, but I wouldn't want to use MaxBite all the time, they're just a bit too aggressive. PS. I recommend checking out the Facom 440 series wrenches - they are definitely different from anything else out there!
Thanks my friend for your great feedback!!!! the facom 440 are going in the series because of your request, stay tuned!!!!!!!
@@jefftovani5535 That's great, Jeff, looking forward to hearing your verdict!
Yeah, the old ones are better in every way. The fit is more precise, the forging is more even, the stamping is easier to read.
I actually bought a set of those 8-22mm combination wrenches at Lowes about a year ago and the 15mm the box end was struck off center so one side was noticeably thicker than the other side and the polishing and chamfering on the 12-point box end was pretty rough. Let's just say I was a little less than impressed for a set of wrenches I had just spent about $60 on. They were returned and I ended up ordering the 6-24mm set from Tekton
Yea craftsman not what it used to be no doubt!! well we had to start somewhere in the series, lol!! there is some good ones coming!!! thanks my friend for sharing your thoughts!!!
The older USA Craftsman wrenches will last forever. I still have a couple sets for home use. I'm not really a fan of the raised panel feel and the length. I prefer long pattern wrenches with a smooth chrome finish.
Thanks for sharing your opinion my friend!! they were on the short side no doubt!!!
Ya I have a bunch of the older U.S. made craftsman wrenches. I used them to make a nice complete set of mismatched wrenches. I don't care about the brand as long as I have the size I need, but the old craftsman are good strong wrenches that literally last forever. Not sure about those new China ones? They do look the same? Thanks for the video, great stuff.
Hi bigc the new ones,at least the raised panel arnt to good!!! stay tuned!!
last batch i saw at Lowes was made in India. Seemed to be very different texture and color than china variety.
Crazy kirch what going with craftsman!! thanks my friend!!
Jeff, Did you look at the SK 5-postion pliers ? Wright Grip does make a smaller count SAE of wrenches.
Yes the SK pliers are very interesting!! ive seen the smaller wright sets,i may include them, thanks my friend!!!
It's a shame that Craftsman could not replicate or at least come closer to the original tolerances on the vintage U.S.A.-made wrenches.
Yea its a shame, but no suprise!!! thanks for checking them out my friend!!
Chinese Craftsman. Torque to yield, LOL.
Thanks for joining in!!!
That would be cool of you did the wen. I been eyeing that set and can't find reviews on it. I been eyeing capri and tekton also. I might just get the capri because I love their xl double box ones.
Hi brent try to wait until i finish this series, there going to be some good ones!!! stay tuned!!!
@jefftovani5535 will do bud.
What is really sad about crapsman …. It’s missing made in the USA! I’m still using my USA made craftsman tools I have had for at least 35 years but unfortunately they at starting to wear out so I’m having to go to a different tool brand what brand would you personally recommend? Great video thanks for sharing
I have many brand i like,im not loyal to anyone brand!! but that being Tekton,Capri,Olsa,Icon are some i recommend!! best warranty Tekton,Icon!! hope that helps!!!
I actually did end up buying the metric v series Craftsman that you did a video on and and they're nice, but I question the point of calling something a professional set and you sell it and it has skips and there's no version of the set that doesn't have skips. So what I don't understand with Craftsman cuz most professionals when they buy things they want full sets
Hi blood i agree! those v-series wrenches are far better then these new raised panel ones!! the skips kill the set though like you said!! i got some coming up!! stay tuned!! thanks mg friend!!!
I would take old CRAFTSMAN over the new anytime , looks like the maker is making lower quality tools using the CRAFTSMAN name as a selling point and the younger generation don't realize the difference in quality
Hi tank your rite the young guys still think there as good as the old ones!!!! thanks for your take on it!!!
Thx again Jeff !
Thanks steve!!!
Do you mind if I email you Jeff? I'll get you a set of Duralast wrenches for the series.
Hi happy yes please do! my e-mail is in my front page!! thanks happy for supporting the channel!! this should be a interesting series!! stay tuned!!
Craftsman merchandise has gone down in quality. They just not as good as they use to be
I hear ya!! the only new craftsman thats any good is the v-series wrenches and they have skips!!! thanks for joining in!!
You couldn't pay me to use Crapsman RP wrenches. They aren't good, they never were, and people that seem to think that the old ones are good just because they're US made are delusional.
Thanks for joining in and sharing your opinion!!
It's hard to beat the old Craftsman tools. I can't believe how scratched up the new set is. Thanks Jeff great series
Yea these new ones were nothing great no doubt!! thanks mike!!
Still use my old craftsman wrenches all the time.
Hi dave thats awesome to hear!!! thanks my friend!!!!
