Yes, once you start evaluating music by the complexity of the composition instead of enjoying it as it is, you're just distancing yourself of the sincere experience of listening to music. You either feel it or don't and that's it
On some albums, but most of the draw of his music now is the extremely complex deconstructive production and most of the melodic sections aren’t arpeggios, so I doubt any “IDM kids” have said that. most people who listen to AE probably also listen to OPN
Yeah, Senni was actually broke for most of the time he was creating this type of music and running his own label. Being so persistent in spite of his music being labeled like this or like that (but actually minimalistic and fresh, with beautiful ornamentations), is really inspiring. Him becoming big enough to be picked up by Warp records, was just the tip of the iceberg at that point in his music making career. He was already a fully formed and respected guy in the electronic music scene.
Lorenzo Senni's synthesis work is more than a preset though isnt it. Thought he had quite a bit of mastery of his JP8080 and uses some great subtle modulation. I assume he's talking about his pre-WARP stuff, because after that he has more complex arrangements
@@TRaddcliff it matters if you want to describe someone's music and process accurately. I think it's worth noting. But yes the point of art not needing to be "difficult" to be good i agree with and that's the main takeaway. Just saying there's a bit more to lorenzo senni's music that's all
@@ritedI could care less what goes into it. I hate when people post what they use to make music or give it some long winded description. Don’t care. All that matters to me is does it click with me. @@rited not really cuz they don’t tell me how they do it. Let me clarify a little. There’s a difference when someone is asked how they did something vs someone who posts a track with full descrip of what was used. That descrip is a way of selling the music. My old friend is a "gypsy jazz" musician, wich is a very complicated style that takes a large amount of skill to play and isn't very enjoyable to listen to at all. 😂 He's constantly complaining on Facebook about how most people have bad taste in music because they don't appreciate hard to listen to styles.
Gyspy Jazz is fantastic! There's some brilliant Gyspy Jazz musicians in Belfast who are very enjoyable to listen to. Of course it takes some virtuosity to play, but the way they do it, nearly everyone enjoys the listen. Putting off a whole genre as bad or as good is just as shite as complaining about music being low effort in my opinion!
FX TWEEN is not better but has become a symbol, an archetype for some shit. this archetype is bigger than the Sir himself. he didn't make himself a legend, the audience did. new autechre stuff sux tho, lets admit it like wtf is it even, i only play their new stuff to impress my friends about my eccentric music taste
Yes, low effort has nothing to do with personal taste. But its also shitty when marketing is taken for the actual attributes of a piece. Y'know? Sometimes the piece is not necessarily that good or iconic, its just well marketed. You shouldn't confuse marketing zeitgeist with your own taste. Not to say they cant agree either. AND i also understand that in the end that's kinda what many arts are in a nutshell: marketing zeitgeist (physical distribution power) that gets adopted by people. Half money, half love.
While effort is hugely correlated with sounding good, it is not necessarily causally integrated with the making process itself. You still have to get off your ass
Shit take. The difficulty of making art is what makes it good. If it was EASY, there would be such an abundance that there would be nothing unique to appreciate.
Playing an arp is easy. Press a key. I think that’s what he’s talking about. Using a preset or a stock drum loop. Making a good composition is the tough part though. But for some it comes naturally, trained or untrained. Don’t kid yourself. Nothing is unique. It’s all been done at some point by someone. Thats the beauty of the internet. The elimination of uniqueness. Let’s everyone see everything all the time.
an abundance of music is exactly what generates unique ideas. We live in a time where making music has been easier than ever. Think about all the crazy music we have available to listen to. Sure, there's 5x as much of X genre, and it all sounds the same, but now we have 5x more sub-genre offshoots.
yeah, what the first guy said was absolutely right. Composition is much harder than making a complex patch/loop. It's easy to compose and arrange, but it takes a decade to establish your foundations and master the craft.
"All you IDM kids" - Sean Booth
I love how he is always so clearminded
Yup, just like his music.
Sean is the antidote to the myth, such a down to earth person. I love him.
The moby part lmao

i love the music of autechre, but as being an no native english speaker, it's so hard to understand what this beautiful man is saying lol

I wonder if those IDM kids would say the same thing about Oneohtrix Point Never that by the way uses mainly arpeggios too.

can vouch, I listen to both frequently. @@caniacattack
I wonder if anyone thinks Lorenzo Senni is low effort. Man works hard to achieve that kind of simplicity
I think Sean just did

Rob and Sean are nothing like what you’d imagine them to be like based on their music.
