For one thing the R4 is alot heavier (231g vs 156g), weaker/older chipset (660 vs 680) & it's like $50 more, got around 1h less battery life. The RAM & ROM are the same (3Gb + 32Gb), output lvls for the JM21 are 2.0 Vrms max (single ended) & 4.0 Vrms balanced with a 700mW + 700mW capability.
R4 has much batter battery 4200 vs 2400. Even if CPU of Fiio is more power-efficient it's efficiency about 25% with the same performance level, but the most bigger power consumption source in player is amplifier and not CPU. Design of R4 also is absolutely great and sound itself very nice. Just enjoy your R4 because it definitely worth it's money.
Looks a lot more fragile than the older fiio M7 . I'll wait for more reviews. Only really need the features like the M7 to be honest as don't stream my music only use SD cards. But I'll certainly keep my eye out. Shame fiio can't bring out another M7 type player.
It shouldn't have any lag. It's got Android 13 with the fastest snapdragon soc in any dap. It still won't be as fast as a normal phone but should be better than any other dap
Im looking for a replacement DAP for my FiiO X1 II, but i mainly use it connected to an active 2.1 system (edifier e235 Luna) via the 3.5 mm headphone jack & switched to Line-Out in the settings. Does this have the same or better capabilities when you hook it to an amp or active 2.1 system?
@tech.prince I took a chance and pre-ordered it already. I read sumwhere it has 2.0 Vrms max output on single ended, & the balanced does 4.0 Vrms at 700mW + 700mW, though that's for headphones only. It also comes with spdif out, although I don't know if that means coaxial digi output or optical/TOSLink. It seems like more bang for the buck than the R4. And it's not a >200g brick or ugly.
I jumped on pre-sale the minute i saw it. It will be my first dedicated music player since like 2008 :D thanks for the vid!
Recently bought the R4. I wonder how it compares to the JM21.

@@jairdabrini lol for 700mw at 32 ohms you need 4.75 volts rms with 4 volts you will end up at around 500mw

Try shanling m1 plus.
To cut cost, it's not the most premium device. Specs mentioned plastic back, while the blue frame is metal
Same here, just purchased jm21 to replace my m7 as starting to fail on me 👍
