Life in Korea during the Corona virus | A people's perspective (with interviews)

  • *UPDATE: As of now APRIL 9th most schools are implementing online classes (not March 23rd) Since this is constantly an ongoing situation things are constantly changing*
    I wanted to get the perspective of people living and working in Korea and talk about how the Corona virus has affected their daily and work life.
    Things from transportation, business, work, medical response and general life are all discussed in this video.
    For many this situation has completely affected daily life and for others not so much. I tried to find a non biased approach and hear from the individual.
    Of course this is an ongoing story with now many more countries affected. When filmed, the Corona Virus outbreak had already continued for 3 weeks so the height of panic was much lower than the start. And by the posting date of the video for many the panic was close to nearly gone.
    Huge thanks to the many that volunteered to voice their thoughts and share their experiences.

    No one in South Korea is in panic nor panic buying. All the shelves are filled with lots of stuffs. No one is hoarding toilet papers in Korea like many people do in the west. South Korean government does an excellent job sharing accurate& transparent information & data with their citizens twice a day, 10am and 4pm everyday and also text message all citizens updates on the the number of confirmed cases in town, the places the confirmed patient have visited, how the disinfection is being done on such places and when the disinfected places will be reopen etc. South Korean govetnment is honest and crystal clear about what is happening in the nation regarding coronavirus and share everything with their citizens. The test and treatment is free to all citizens as well as foreigners, even illegal immigrants bcz the primary goal of test& treatment is to prevent further spread. The government does an excellent job in 3T's, test, trace/track, treatment.

    This is such a great video sharing how life is rn and also how the issue has been monitored and kept under control. 3Ts've been swiftly and efficiently operating by the Government and people in Korea from the get go, as no time to mess about is the key mindset of most Koreans especially in this pandemic. Unfortunately, the UK is still struggling (No one knows why, seriously?!) although the numbers are slowly going down but still pretty much chaos I'd say! Anyway, cheer up everyone, life goes on and we are still here! Thanks 'Daveys Cakes' for your hard work.

      No, i don't think Korean people are doing well because of collectivisim but because of civic consciousness. Korean people are quite individualistic nowadays but they know how to behave to be mature as a citizen.

    Mr. David! I'm your student in 2016, Captain Astro! I'm so glad to watch your channel.
    2 weeks ago I sent you my news by messanger about my life changed by COVID-19. After that I should listen to lectures from my college, so I'm so sorry that I couldn't ask you your safety and life difference because of virus.
    By the way, I really really surprised that your interviewees, especially foreign residents, do trust Korean government's solution! Whether Korea is the country where they born or not, I think to trust the actions of government which we live in is so important, just only if it is supposed that those actions are only able to be understood in the range of ethic and reason. Also I think our government did and does pretty better than any other country! I really wish the virus to be eliminated soon, and hope the people who have some troubles by the virus to be restored to the original life. Please take care and be healthy until and after we meet after the virus finally ends. I suscribed and clicked the Like button:) I will watch your youtube when I have a little time to take a rest. For the last...

    It's so different here in Indonesia where the government doesn't seem care of its people. We're not doing lockdown, and obviously there aren't massive tests too. People loose trust on the government, they don't obey the rule of social distancing and stay at home. Economy is starting to go down, crime is starting to emerge. Doctors and medical workers starting to collapse one by one. Basically, our medical system is terrible, it's sad to see among the people who died 'cause of Covid-19, there are 20+ doctors 😭😭.
    In times like these, I wish I was Korean or lived in South Korea 😭😭

    I think there it's little bit better than Italy the situation is terrible
    And also Tunisia cuz people do not care about this, they go outside without following medical advice and not caring about the awareness made by the Ministry of Health, this is because these people are indifferent. There is so many who suffer and are exposed to danger, especially the old and young.
    All cases entered from Italy
    and now i think we have more than 6 thousand cases in quarantine.
    It has been 2 months since I stopped working, i did not go out for a long time and today I had to go to a pharmacy to buy my medicine , but I searched in more than 5 pharmacies to be able to find and saw the situation outside is really frightening even the medicines are no longer available.
    That's really terrible
    I hope this virus will end and go away from all countries 💙🌺

      Wow yeah I didn’t realize how global this has all become in such a short amount of time. The height of panic and emergency happened in Korea about a month ago so things are dying down a bit. But yeah for me
      all my trips and flights got cancelled and many people can’t work. So they are in Korea with no job. It’s a bad situation for sure I hope it ends soon as well :/

    Excellent video brother. How I wish Malaysia is like South Korea in terms of handling this Covid-19. Our testing is very poor. It can mislead others into thinking that we have less infection whereas it could be due lower number of Covid-19 testing.

    I'm an older woman who currently has a good career but I'm considering taking a sabbatical to possibly teach English in S. Korea. I noticed the man in the video with you {YoungHo, I think?) said his birth year was 1971. How hard is it for older Americans to get teaching positions in S. Korea?

    Thank you for excellent video, but can you please tell your foreign interviewees in the video to WEAR FACE MASK???!! If they do not wear mask bc all the other Korean people wear them so they think they would be fine, I would be so mad.

    • @DaveysCakes
      @DaveysCakes  4 года назад +1

      They wear the mask but many of the interviews they sent from their own home. But yes these days in many places it is mandatory to wear the mask so i see most people wearing them these days :)

    The school thing has been pushed back to April 4th. Also, what is your opinion on the government's surveillance of suspected (not confirmed) individuals regarding their privacy?

    • @DaveysCakes
      @DaveysCakes  4 года назад

      Yeah I actually made a mistake uploading this video because I accidentally uploaded my un edited version because I heard schools would start later. So I'll definitely say it in the description.
      Thanks for letting me know.
      And as far as the government's surveillance, what exactly do you mean? I wasn't aware they were breaching privacy? If so please let me know this is something I would like to research.
      Thank you!

    I see others noticed it too . Its really annoying to see foreigners having bad etiquette. Whats the point of the mask if u unmask to talk ?? You are putting others at risk . Thats the same type of behavior in the states which is why we are still having so many cases . People wearing mask until they talk on the phone ? Or until they speak to the cashier ? Or people just wearing a mask to get into stores and then unmasking or people just not wearing one at all . Its been a few months since this video and hopefully u learned .
