Whenever I want to watch how a game is played to decide whether to buy it or not, I always try to find if you've uploaded a video explaining the game. You're doing such a good job
The italic hand writing to make contrast between the two annotation pads is something that you can only expect from Watch It Played. It’s in the small details!Thank you for the another amazing how to video!
Crystal clear explanation... Didn't know you could even hum or mime a clue. Thanks for even putting an index in, great production value here. Rather than explain the rules I'm just gonna show this video next game night
I just bought the game and I felt the same exact way. Was scratching my head with 3 others for an hour and decided to go to youtube. Basically 10 minutes and we were golden.
Another wonderful, clear, and educational video. Thank you so much for making it easy to both help in choosing which games to buy and how to quickly get them to the table. Much appreciated.
Great video. One of my favorite new games. I love it none, but when I was researching it before buying, I had a hard time finding good rules overviews of it. I am glad people looking to get this game will now have a clear and concise video.
This was a clear and well-executed demonstration of the game. Impressive! And, as others have noted, saved a lot of hassle explaining to a group of friends!
Thanks a lot. I tried reading the rules like 4 times but for some reason my brain refused. Even while watching this my brain was confused. But at the last step, it kind of clicked. So hopefully I will be able to play this soon. Thanks!
I just loved this review. This games is pretty hard to understand on the first tries what and how to do it in this game and this video help a lot to understand how to play. well done, do more games , there so many heavy new games :) i would like to see more episodes :)))
At 6:00, shouldn't the Black team's encryptor have written 3.1.2, as indicated on the code card, instead of 3.2.1? I get that 3.1.2 is probably correct given the clues, but that's not the sequence the Black team's encryptor was given.
I just want to know , the order of guesses? In exemple: Its white team turn , the 3 clues are called. Now the two teams got to guess what is the combination at the same time? Because in doing so the other team could just copy what the black team said and vice-versa?
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for. If there is a specific section that is unclear, provide a time stamp and the part you are unsure about.
Both the teams have to write it down before anyone makes a guess, so they won't be able to copy unless they are able to secretly erase and rewrite a different number, which is cheating.
No, I'd say the intention is that you must give a clue everyone at the table can read. And clue can't be based on inside jokes on a couple people would understand. If everyone at the table knew morse code fluently, then I suppose you could.
i dont understand what you mean by putting the clues in the right order and what does it mean " guess the clues" the actual words or numbers? sorry for sounding dumb...
You don't sound dumb! Some concepts can be hard to get at first. To help know how to answer your question, I'd need to give me the time stamps for the points where you're uncertain.
One thing not clear. How does opponent team know which of the words to transpose to the lower part of the page. Ie at 7:54, there is only one transposed word for the first red_window of the white team even though two rounds have been played. My question is... who tells who what and when about right or wrong on the digits of the code? How much "correct/incorrect" information does each team receive?
Both teams are told what the right value should have been for each clue given. You'll see an example of this here: ruclips.net/video/2DBg7Z2-pQ4/видео.html Hope that helps!
Hey Manos, I tend to avoid reviewing or recommending, because every gamer is going to have their own likes and dislikes. What works for one family of 4 might not work with another. I prefer to just show how the game is played and hopefully that gives you some insight into whether it would be a good fit for your family and their tastes.
i see you're using some Bic mechanical pencils there. does the game come with something to write with? or do you need to supply your own? i'd be shocked if those Bic's came with the game.
I’m surprised that sentences/humming/pantomiming is allowed, instead of single word clues. After all, how would one cram an entire sentence onto a gamesheet for either side? Or a hum/miming action, for that matter? Doesn’t the very game mechanics as described functionally limit teams to just giving one-word clues?
That's a tough thing for me to answer, since I'm not involved with the game's design. I think most people in practice will stick to shorter clues, but the rules allow other options, so that is why it is explained that way here.
The timer actually ruins the game completely... the beauty of Decrypto is in allowing the encryptor zero time restraints so they can come up with precisely the right concoction of clues that are just obvious enough for their teammates but not obvious at all for their opponents... and my god finding that alchemical genius takes time. A LOT of time. This game is like a good shiraz. It needs to breathe... Only then does it truly shine, and shine, it does.
I prefer to use it, but I like a certain amount of tension in the process and prefer my party style games to go a little faster, rather than be drawn out by one team that is taking significantly longer than the other, BUT, that's my personal preference. By all means, whatever makes the game more enjoyable to your group, is how you should play it. I tend to disagree with unilateral statements like "the timer ruins the game completely". I suspect what you mean is "it ruins it for 'you'". Things like this are why I leave out all review or opinion type comments in our videos. It comes down to personal preference and everyone is different.
hugesinker Rodney is actually a CG character and all the producers are actually 3D effects artists. Jk, we’re Indiegogo backers of the show, and we get early access to videos to check them for errors, etc.
Yep, as JT said, I get to work on the show as much as I do thanks to the people who donate during our yearly fundraisers. At a certain level you get your name in the credits. They are quite literally ensuring the videos get produced!
You saved 6 people’s lives after an hour and a half confused and playing it incorrectly. Thank you.
Ha! So happy I could help :)

Appreciate you picking up on that detail :)
This is a game you need to be showed how to play, rather than try and read the rules. Great explanation.
Very simple once you know.
Glad you liked it - thanks!
Once again, a great tutorial for a great game! Wonderful job, Rodney!
Thank you ARS!

I hope that helps every get a quick start into the game - thanks for the kind words!
Thank you yet again! The game just wasn't clicking for me when reading the rulebook, but you made it make sense.
Glad this was helpful Kyle!

I gotta say, great pronunciation of the names at the beginning!
It was nervous, but hoped to pull it off decently.

Your script is concise and to the point and the video is very well edited! I love how you made it interactive. Also, your smile is very endearing!
Thank you kindly - glad you enjoyed!!
this guy always nails it. him, 3 minute board games, and tom vassel and board game girl are the joy of youtube
Thanks for the kind words Randy!
Clever filming! I liked how the audience is given a chance to take a guess.
Glad you enjoyed Alaena!
Excellent rules description; very clear and easy
So glad you enjoyed Wade!

Even while watching this my brain was confused.

It can be a little tricky at first, but after a round or two it starts to feel more familiar. Glad the video could help!

great video Rodney! I would have tried this game sooner if i had seen this video sooner. Planning to try it out tomorrow
I hope you have a fun time playing Debbie!
Wow! Merci beaucoup! This video was perfect to help me to understand the game!
So glad it helped! Have fun playing :)

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!! You helped a ton!!!
Very nice to hear it!
Thank you very much for this tutorial.
You're very welcome!
Well explained! Thanks!
You're very welcome - glad you liked it!
I feel like this is Codenames meets Battleship
Or Captain Sonar....or Captain Sonar is "Decrypto meets Battleship"? Though one...
Thanks Rod, thanks for the review. Intriguing game, interesting game play, just not sure if it tips it for me on the fun scale. Will keep in mind.
Thanks for checking out the video! Glad I could give you a look at the game.

Yes. Good catch.
I finally understood how to play this game! The rulebook doesn’t help at all. Thank you!
So glad this was helpful!

Hey Rdney! Do you recommend it as a 4 member family game? Thank you!

The game doesn't come with pencils, you'll need to supply some when playing - or keep a couple in the box.

@@WatchItPlayed thanks for your prompt response. I think you can see though that it may very well be best to stick to 1-word clues. Thanks again!
@@vimalmurthy3665 We've had fun with longer clues, or sounds, etc - but certainly play it however you find the most fun!
Does your team see the four words?
Yes, your whole team sits with you on the side of the screen facing them.
Already played the game, but never taught to others. The manual guide is really poor...
Thanks
Glad you liked the video!
please can you make an Arabic subtitle?
Sorry, I don't know Arabic.

Thanks for checking out the video! Using the timer is optional in the rules, so it makes sense if you and your group prefer the game without it!

seems like there needs to be a limit, how long is the timer?
I don't recall.
Why are there so many producers here? It's like several screens full of names... what do these people do?
