  • This episode looks at how to perform basic aerobatic maneuvers like turns, rolls & loops. You'll learn about what differentiates an aerobatic plane from a normal plane, and then I'll head up in the air to explain and demonstrate the building blocks of aerobatics.

Well... I don't know where to start... The Turn: The rules say: at least 60°. Better do a bit more, less than 60° is a deduction of marks. If you make more than 60° bank you can make tighter turns to stay in the aerobatic box. During the turn you do use rudder as well as elevator. The second figure: This is no slow roll from the aresti catalog. This was a ballistic aileron roll. Nothing to do with a slow roll performed on a straight line without gaining and loosing altitude. Yes, you hold your nose over the horizont during the slow roll, but this happens during the roll. Again: More than one control input during the whole roll. In an Extra 330 you definitely don't need 20° pitch. This is more true for the Cap10 or especially with the Cessna Aerobat (The fourth aerobatic plane in the MSFS.) Rolling a bit quicker will help you to stay in the aerobatic box (just a kilometer length.) and also to stay at the same altitude level. The loop.... well, you will like to use the rudder to correct the propeller influence to stay on direction. Depending on the turn direction of the propeller and pushing or pulling nthe elevator you need to give left or right rudder. Don't look left or right but straight ahead during the loop. Normaly, you can see much better in the sky with the clouds to hold direction. If you look to the side you don't really have the control of the direction. When you nearly reach the top of the loop, get your head in your neck to see the horizon. The slow release of the elevator in the second qoarter is correct, you float through the top and tighten it again slowly in the third section of the loop. This is just a quick comment. Head up, the more you train, read and see, the better you can get. An in aerobatics you can always improve. :-)

Just a little input.. I have been lucky enough to log a bunch of hours in the real Extra 300L and many more in the Pitts S2B. The Extra is very twitchy in real life and exhilarating if a bit tiring to fly, that is what makes it such a great aerobatic type, if anything the real thing feels much more precise that the one depicted in the simulator, the roll rate is IMHO faster in real life than the sim.

Just found your channel. Great stuff. I’m new and from the Xbox community. Will be flying HOTAS on release. Keep up the awesome work!

To finish a loop with more altitude:
do the first half with less G and
do the second half with more G

I enjoyed your video, a great job with your explanations, on the loop try going toward zero Gs during the ten to two o'clock portion of the loop, basically float the top of the loop.

The extra 330 is my favorite plane in the game! I always wondered what that metal thing was on my left wing, thank you for the explanation. I am definitely not a pilot irl & had no idea. Although I never really have a problem during takeoff with the Extra 330. Full power & takes off just fine. I do have full assists on though, so that is probably why it is so easy.

try without assists, its really not that hard

Hi ! You have to use rudder on a flat turn to keep the noise on the horizon.

Maintaining positive g's on the aircraft reduces your chances of damage ! The engine will always have oil if you Maintain positive gs

How can you reset the G-Meter? When I try to reset it, I m not able to do it.

If I remember correctly there is a button on the g meter to reset it. If it doesn’t work, it might be a binding issue in your controls or a bug

    are you a real pilot?

It is clear that you are NOT a pilot by your comments, real aerobatic planes are MORE twichy ( as you call it) than the sim. I have to recognize that you state that you are not a real pilot but AS you are doing a tutorial .. your comments you make about flying , and the real Extra as a comparison with the sim, should be more researched. As an example the attitude, altitude and TAS speed need engine control NOT constant max engine power. This has nothing to do with real flying so the name flight sim is grossly overstated... may be flight game.

Thanks for the real world input. My goal with these videos is for newcomers to Microsoft Flight Simulator to be able to try different aspects of it to get a taste for the genre, not to be 100% accurate to real life.
