Good video! Do you think that there's any point in making a starter with dry yeast? I suppose if you wanted a higher cell count (maybe for a lager or high ABV beer) then due to the lower price point of dry yeast it may actually work out easier and possibly cheaper to just pitch two packets.
Thanks mate! I wouldn't recommend making a starter with dry yeast. For higher gravity and larger volume beers I wouldn't recommend pitching more than 1 packets of yeast. If I can be organised enough, I sometimes make a beer for the purpose of growing yeast, so I'll make 5L (usually 5 litres extra from a batch I'm making) and pitch the yeast I wanna grow. Once fermentation is complete I'll bottle/keg that beer and pitch the yeast slurry into my big beer
Have you looked at the 'vitality starters' that brulosophy do? I have made starters from dried yeast but bought 25kg of DME once insanely cheap so a litre starter costs me 7.5p in dme, and I made a stir plate so for me it's yeah, why not.
I do like Brulosophy but I've not read that one. If the method works for you then great! I think for many others the cost of DME will be a bit more expensive and unnecessary, so I usually advise against it.
Let us know below if you have any other tips to share!
