I bought my similar unit years ago. 2500 at the time, when the ir brown compressors could be had for 800. I wanted quiet and longevity. The e max and polar air are the same machines slightly differet offerings.

I got an old speed aire out of my buddies Dad’s gas station. I take care of it as they don’t make them like that anymore. Quiet as can be and never run out of air. Coarse like you said I don’t use air like we used to. Good video Tim, nice air compressor 👍✊
Glad you went with an American made company👍. I went with a big Quincy v-4 compressor which is also American made, just bigger industrial compressor company and been around since 1920. It was so much fun using my 955 with forks to pull the compressor off the delivery truck and drive it into the barn.

I bought an 80 gallon farm store compressor sometime ago. I need to run it at 110 volts so I replaced the 5 horse 3600rpm 220v motor with a 1.3hp 1800rpm 110v motor with a smaller sheave. Between the smal sheave and the reduced motor speed, the compressor turns about 1/4 of its factory speed.
Obviously it pumps up slow, but for my purposes it works great. It's also similarly quiet to the one in the video, but of course not nearly the CFM.
Nice setup Mike love how quiet it is. Like you said with all the battery operating tools I don't use my air as much and I still have the noisy ones witch I said I would never buy again but couldn't see spending big money if I don't use it as much anymore.

I built a box around my compressor to muffle the noise. It has home AC filters for to allow somewhat clean air in. It makes a substantial difference, but it’s still not video quiet. It’s also mounted with hockey pucks as isolators.

Good idea! If the box was built like a soundproof wall, so much the better. Too much concerns about the heat. I have a portable 1 hp compressor that I used to paint barns, then in the shop, around the farm, and then for truck maintenance. Bought it in 1971, still an excellent AC. BTB, not a big name, a Sanborn from Quality Fleet. I changed the motor pulley so that it slowed down the compressor. On many occasions I'd plug in another tank for more air storage. So then, it would run at a steady speed, rarely stopping and starting. The higher the pressure is set, the harder it has to work every cycle! 2 stage not so much. Sev Amish I know use a little 1 cylinder portable AC hooked to a repurposed 500 gal propane tank. Runs one whole day, stores enough air to run their commercial shop for a week!! They're NOT showing off! They like to make money/ profits!! For sandblasting and jack hammers, you need a big AC. For almost everything else, not so much!!
I don't see any advantage to parking the AC way up on a shelf. Makes it hard to check comp. oil, belt tension, tank condensation, and other things. Always seemed to me that they made MORE noise up high!! Definitely harder to soundproof, unless you really like paying $4000+ for a quiet compressor! I think my big one cost $495.00

Nice compressor Tim. Like the set up and location. Better to have a little extra capacity than wish you had it. I still use my 3/4 inch drive and it needs a unit like you just installed.

One thing I forgot to say is I use my Quincy with 100 gal split tanks for media blasting with an American cooling solutions 50 cfm cooler and a water filter before it even hits the first storage tank. Only reason I did this is to extend the tank life by cooling and filtering the water out before it ever hits the tank since I plow threw air media blasting. I’m interested to see now desiccant does on the intake vs. after cooling. If you ever do plasma cutting you will have to have the driest air possible.
I work at a label factory we have 2 big air compressors one we've had for 16 years and just bought the other one they are quiet we kept the old one just for back up and to change the oil in the new one with no down time in production but both compressors cost around 26,000 to 30,000 dollars a piece but the run 6 printing presses and 5 rewinding units and they keep up with that plus more we are running 60 percent capacity we also put in a valve and drain out through the wall because the auto drain set up plugged with rust and the tank filled with water because nobody knew that the drain wasn't working
On my intake I ran a hose through an old motorcycle muffler and it did a pretty good job making it a little more quite.
That’s a neat solution. I have plans in my garage/shop plans for a sound insulated room just due to the compressor noise.
I would never turn down the opportunity for a larger toy/tool, but a big box store option that’s not needed for welding or impacts is a California air tools 20 gallon for 600.00. Runs around 75 db. They have smaller ones that operate at the same db for for even less money.
Had me nervous for your compressor while unloading. You did great though. I am going to have to relook at my old compressor now 😁

Tim I hear ya! 😅 The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 2 Gallon Air Compressor is also super quiet. best part it is portable! so if you get to a point needing another smaller Compressor for field use check it out. just bought one myself and wow!

Tim, I'm old school: You never can have enough air. Air tools are quicker, more powerful, last longer, never need charging, & have multiuses that electric ones don't. Ever sand blast with an electric? Remove a truck tire? Actuate air or hydraulic cylinders? Even blow up tires? Air guys know we can do anything you can do, do it better, do it faster, & with a lot more power. Batteries are for those who like little stuff. Air guys are the "Tim the Toolman Taylor" guys.
You know what I always respect about your videos Tim? You always shoot from the hip on price. I really appreciate that. I really don't know why websites say "call for price" rather than just stating the price. I'm sure there's some marketing strategy in there, but I'm also sure that the average guy/gal just wants to know the bottom line up front. It saves so much time. Thanks for doing that on a consistent basis.
Unfortunately, with inflation, a lot of the earlier prices have stated are way off now. This is one reason folks avoid stating prices.

@@frankgillette8968 not to mention that the forks are bent on the opposite way there really isn’t the strength in the forks it’s self for that kind of load. You have to remember Tim is a software developer Engineer. But he does come up with some different stuff.
With that compressor capacity I have but two words to say... "Plasma Cutter."

@@amossnowdaharleyman9179 I just bought a plasma and I've used it once so far and love it. But I got to build my compressor setup from a newer tank and an older 220 compressor that the tank was old and crusty
That compressor is really quiet...although for $3k+ it better be pretty quiet. When you use air tools a lot a really good air compressor is a must and you want it large enough to keep up with the continuous demand of your most demanding tool.
A bit more $$$ is a Rotary Screw Compressor, No more noise than your Furnace blower and with a smaller tank you have more sustainable CFM at a given PSI at the tool.
Thanks Guys. I just need to hook up My Monster Twin Quincy 260's w2 3PH 5HP motors on a 100 Gal horiz Tank. That I got From a TV station that all the old 2" tape drive Carrousels used air to operate. I got it for nothing . All I had to do was take it apart to get it out of the Basement. When Assembled My DK4510 can just lift it.

If quiet operation was the big requirement, a rotary screw type compressor mounted in an outdoor enclosure would have been the way to go.

Consider T ing the gauge into the fittings that the hose hooks up to. you should be able to see it from there. Super nice compressor!

I love my battery tools but I’m here to say for more power you still need air tools at this time I’m sure in a year or two may not anymore they have come a long way I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and we got the best of the Milwaukee tools they clam to have the torque but they don’t YET great video Tim

🍺🍺 I have a 60 gallon air compressor from Lowe’s. I paid $589 for it it’s a two-stage air compressor. It’s also got a power meter on it a digital our meter that tells me how long it’s been running gives me an idea about when I need to change the oil. And my mix just as much noise is that when they are does🍺🍺

whisper quiet piston compressor, i've got too see this. i've been rocking a 7.5 HP Ingersoll Screw for 6 years.
Good luck with this compressor. We have the same one at my work. It works good. 4 days before the warranty was over the electric motor died. Getting ahold of Emax was horrible. Then they weren't gonna cover the motor on warranty. Finally they did but it took us almost a month to get the motor. With little to no contact from Emax to let us know what was going on. They ended up sending us the wrong motor. We contacted them again and finally 2 weeks later we got the correct motor. The compressor works good but the customer service isn't that great.

The volume will serve ya well I’m thinking. I have long air nozzles I use to blow out dirt from the tractor, mower and UTV after every use. Always avoid water when ya can.
I looked for the attachment to use it to suck oil out of small engines but can’t find one I would buy.
I have the same? one, different brand polar air, same specs and pump, 7.5hp, 4 cyl, 2 stage, added aftercooler and moisture trap. Very happy, you will be too. I think I have splash lubed.

I put a 5 hp Quincy to stage compressor in my shop a few years ago for 1300 dollars way more air than I need
My 4 y/o grandson was scared by the automatic water discharge valve and was reluctant to come into the shop. I didn't like that so I put a timer at the electric plug and it discharges only at night. I don't use it enough for that to be a significant factor. What is handy is a 3 ' bendable copper wand wand to blow the shop out. Kind of the opposite of vacuuming. Also great for cleaning clippings, caked on grass on mowers and debris from radiators and oil coolers. There is a directional nozzle for pressure washers that snaps on with an air coupling thats handy to slip under decks etc. When set at an angle hold on tight.
I need to get a timer like that.
Well, I guess you can see one use for a bigger compressor . Then there's paint sprayers, plasma cutters, and air tools that haven't been replicated by electric versions. It's your shop and I think you will find it a good choice to have more than you thought you needed.

Kobalt makes small silent compressors. My garage is under my babies room and its so quiet you can’t hear it at all in the house. They make a bunch of different sizes as well from pancake to 30gallon
All I saw you doing was just getting good info for us. Now you've got a quick way to clean off all of the equipment. Although, I can see Christy using it also.

That’s quiet ! I went from an oiled compressor to an oil-less and hated it. Sold it and got a newer oiled and it’s quieter than both previous compressors. I love air tools, but grab the battery much more anymore.
Check out California Air Tools. Runs at 75 db. You can have a normal conversation with it running.
@@chrisnash2154 I have the quiet series, air ratchet and two impact guns from IR. I don't typically use them while having a conversation or record myself just yet.
My compressor is outside the garage under cover from the elements no issue with noise ,also not taking up space in my garage.
They did the same thing i did to my compressor over 10 years ago .
How do you plan to change the air filter behind the tank thats in the back? I have the equivalent Polar Air by Eaton & rotated the compressor 90* to the left from what you have for ease of maintenance
On those automatic tank drains, they're really nice to have, but they're kind of annoying because of the limited settings. 45 minutes in an automotive or paint shop is great, because it's running all the time. But unless you put it on a timer or wall switch, it's going to open the valve EVERY 45 minutes, regardless if the compressor ran an hour ago or 7 days ago. What's really needed is a way to have it cycle when the compressor runs, and then for next 2 hours (3 drain cycles). You're going to hear a loud hiss when the valve opens, so there is some merit running it outside.
One other thing. Consider buying a 220V hour meter and wiring it in so you know how often to change your oil and check your filters. That's a nice unit, so it may already have one.
I have a Quincy QT-54 and I put an hour meter on it. I also installed a motor starter on it and wired my hour meter to it. I installed one of those auto tank drains on it and I agree that there needs to be more options for setting the timer. The auto drain is loud when it kicks on and will scare me sometimes. I am going to run the drain to the outside and that should help. I plan on making an aftercooler for it someday, just haven't got around to doing it yet.

What do you do with the oil filled lines when you need to use something that doesn't like oil? I've always preferred to put the little oiler on the inlet of the impact gun.
Ya .... my first thought was what about air hammers which all my life I thought didn't want oil. After some google maybe that has changed...

Noise used to be a factor back when I had a shop full of air tools and you needed to have the tank at pressure all the time. Now days the only thing I use air for is basically to air up tires or use the blow gun - and in reality, how often are you airing up tires? And for that I do not keep the tank pressurized. Why waste electricity and keep that moisture in the tank? I just turn the compressor on when I need it and by the time I get my hose unreeled and my gauges out the tank is ready to go. Likewise with a Plasma cutter. I'm not a fabrication shop. So every now and then if you need air for the plasma cutter, turn on the compressor and go. In fact, since getting the new Milwaukee M18 inflator, I no longer even use the big compressor for tires.
Pretty involved situation to put an air compressor in place..lol..

50 amp breaker so around 35 amp run load: electric bill will get your attention.....I'll do a video of my Home Depot quiet compressors this weekend. Really quiet and have yet to exceed their capacity on my tire machine,filling 110 psi trailer tires or rears on backhoe,tractors,etc.One of the most expensive utilities at my factory (and all factories) is compressed air btw.
Not really no more than what Tim needs air for, my 120 gallon similar compressor runs from cut in to shut off for a time of 2 minutes
@Kevin I run an entire factory off of a 200 CFM compressor. 25-30 CFM is a heck of a lot of compressed air volume. Shop compressor need not be that large. As I said compressed air is an expensive utility: to go way over on need is money being blown away.

@@amossnowdaharleyman9179 Depends what you’re doing. Sandblasting requires high cfm and high volume. We’ve done plenty of that and anything under 24 cfm is just a gutless pig doing the work.

I HAVE A FURNACE THAT DRAINED OUT THE SIDE OF MY METAL BLDG … IT DID FREEZE UP THE FIRST WINTER … ENDED UP BUILDING A VERY SMALL ROOM FOR LACK OF A BETTER WAY OF SAYING IT OVER A HOLE THAT I PUT ABOUT A FOOT OF GRAVEL…I INSULATED THE LITTLE ROOM AND IT NEVER FROZE THE DRAIN LINE AGAIN ..😉
We have plenty of slope. Should not freeze. Has not done so yet.
What kind of tools are you planning to use next to that hoist that you'd want to regulate the air

@@TractorTimewithTim just an FYI…breakers are not really designed to be on/off switches . Especially the cheaper duty ones they make nowadays. It tends to make them weaker. I’ve had different brands not reset or only one side (220) reset
They make these in 5 hp now.
They should keep a couple 4" c-clamps on their truck.
If they attached them to the fork on either side of the compressor, they wouldn't have to worry about it slipping off the fork so much.
It wasn’t gonna slip. I was just going slowly to be sure.
Is there any way to make the loader/bucket operate smoother so that it is not so jerky? It appears that if you are lifting something and have to move the bucket, you have to be extremely careful not to drop what's in it or over correct backward toward the tractor. Thanks.
Loaders are not optimal as forklifts. They get the job done, but the geometry is not perfect.
It gets worse as the loader is higher. Small moves in the lift cylinder move the forks a long way.
I recently got a large compressor for my hobby shop. What did you use for the air lines from compressor to lift? I need to run lines out to a couple places in the shop.

It doesn't matter what the warranty is on the pump. What is going to go bad first is the tank will rust out... even with an auto drain. It is inevitable. The problem with tanks is you usually don't KNOW they are rusting because it happens from the inside. One day it just goes BOOM. The recommendation is the tank should be replaced about every 10-15 years.
If you buy an industrial compressor you'll find their tanks to have a heavier gauge of metal than your cheaper compressors do...I can show you compressors over 30 years old and there's still no concerns about tank rupture...buy once cry once.

Does that oiler shoot oil into the air lines? You don't want oil in your valve stem, tires or shooting out your blow gun. Using air tools for 40 years I've always installed an oiler right on the inlet of the impact wrench. For other lesser used air tools it's easier to just give them a couple drops of oil each time you use them.
I don’t fully understand the oiler yet. I will get more information.
