I have a small problem: on one of my rims DT SWISS XRC 1501: I'm loosing air pressure thru a small hole onm the side of the rim. What are those small holes anyway? Are somehow related to the production of the rim? It's a technological hole? Or is drain hole for water that builds up inside the rim?
I'm loosing air and sealant also. I was abble to see it only in water. It's not much but In about 24h I loose allmost all thre pressure. It drops under 1 bar...IT could be a problem with the sealing tape? Or maybe sealant? Thank you :)
Hi Daniel, the hole you're talking about is actually an drainage bore to allow any water to flow out of your rims. In your case the tubeless tape is most likely damaged or your valve doesn't seal properly against the rim, otherwise there is no change for sealant liquid to come out of the drainage bore. Here is our tubeless manual with some hints and tricks: www.dtswiss.com/pmt/00/00/00/00/00/00/00/10/00/00/00/88/2/MAN_TDX06234X1610S_WEB_ZZ_001.pdf Kind regards, Christian, DT Swiss
Can I ride on inner tubes with the standard tape the wheels come with? (model GR1600)
great vid with info i had not known before about when to refresh or how to know it's time. am setting up HED silver edition Emporia (huge splurge and way over my budget)
when they arrive and have read reviews about the DT Swiss tape being the easiest to set up. tried several others without much luck so am crossing my fingers!
Can I ride on inner tubes with the standard tape the wheels come with? (model GR1600)
I find it really hard to select a rim on your website which is tubeless ready. Overall the websites describes that all wheelsets are TL ready, but when buying a rim it is a different story. I bought a 545d rim for my trekking bike and it isn't TL compatible, but when I look at the hook where the tire bead fits into it should work. So I bought it and it works perfectly.... I don't understand. Why not make all rims TLE compatible????
Super useful tutorial!
Hi Thomas, I am not sure if I understand you. Currently we use our tubeless ready tape for all wheels/rims regardless if they are used for tube type or tubeless ready applications. Alternatively you may use a regular rim strip but only for use with tire and tube, but make sure to use the correct width. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
Hi Thomas, you can use our tubeless ready tape also for tube type applications including rims not originally designed for tubeless. If you wish you can still use the rim strip from any supplier, just make sure it has the right width and is suitable for the pressure. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
Great video, thanks! Just re-taped my RR21DB rims for the first time with DT Swiss rim tape and noticed that there are bubbles forming between the tape and the rim-bed. Any tips on dealing with them? (Or can they just be ignored?)
Will one turn of the DT Swiss rim tape be enough to run with an inner tube if necessary? Like a thin TPU tube?
Park Tool says to ditch the o-rings that come with the valves. Do you agree?
What material is the tape?*
*Asking for a friend.
I've found that tubeless tape works better than rim strips that move and can get caught in the bead, how many layers of dt tubeless tape would it take to insure a tube will not go into the spoke hole for a 28mm x 700 tire @ 6 ATM? thanks
Hi and thanks for your question. We suggest to use 2 loops for asymetric rims and one for the others. Of course you can do more loops if needed but 1 or 2 should do the trick here. Thanks, Christian, DT Swiss
Good video! In a carbon rim, how many turns of the tubeless tape will we do? I always doubt whether to give him one or two...
Hi Joel
Thank you very much. Maybe you recognized the Video has been taken without any cut!!!
If the tire got a thight fit on the rim, one turn would be enough. If you feel the tire to have not a tight fit on the rim ( for sure not in the bed where it's enough space ). Then it might be heklpful to make two or even more turns with the rim tape to get it right seated.
Enjoy your riding, Friso "DT Swiss".
Ok. Perfect, thank you so much. 👍
Check the tape every 3 month? It means pulling and then re-popping the tire every time!? I thought going tubeless was supposed to mean less maintenance. Popping a tubeless tire can be a nightmare if you don't have a bulky compressor.
This.
I have the same tape installed in the rim for 5 years and all is ok , no pressure loss . My tape is not Dtswiss
Dear DT Swiss, thank you for this video! Question: You suggest to use rim tape 2 mm wider than the inner rim width. I have a "R 470 db" rims with inner width 20 mm. However DT Swiss rim tapes closest to suggested width are 21 or 23 mm. Which one should I use?
Hi, better go for the higher value with additional 3mm, 23mm in your case. Kind regards, José ,DT Swiss
Hello! I had a lovely pair of DT Swiss R522 db. Can I put tubeless tires on them? thank you and thanks for the video!
Hi Leonardo
Thank you for your message. Yes, you can convert the R522db rim to tubeless, with a matching tubless tape ( approx. 2mm wider than the inner im width ) and a matching tubeless valve. Enjoy riding your Bike, Friso "DT Swiss".
@@dtswiss thanks for your answer :) Ordering the tape and the rest of the stuff. Cheers!!
Hi great video!
I have a question:
Can i put tubeless tires on my -
Custom DT Swiss F550, 30mm wide, 32h Rims, from specialized demo 7 I
and which size of tape do i need?
Ty
Hi Ivan, sure you can apply tubeless ready tape with 32mm width, add valves and liquid and go tubeless. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
Hi, good video!!!.
I have a question.
Can I put a Yksion Pro UST Tubeless in my DT 470 rim??
Thanks a lot.
Michel
Hi Carlos, the X470 rim wasn't developped to be used with tubeless systems. So we cannot guarantee a proper and safe function. Have a nice day, Friso "DT Swiss".
Why 2 layers of rim tape for asymmetric rim? Is that the edge of the spoke bores of the asymmetric rim easier to induce puncture?
I had one layer and it blew a hole in one spoke bore after 2 months, so possibly weaker as it's on an angle?
FYI: Just re-taping my 2017 RR21DB Di-Cut 700C rims for the first time. These rims are asymmetric but I discovered they had only 1 layer of rim-tape from the factory. That single layer was heavily depressed into the spoke holes from the air pressure pushing on it. Definitely needs two layers so assume my rims were first off the production line before they realized this issue.
Are the DT Swiss ARC 1650 DICUT DB Carbon 62/80mm wheels made for the BMC timemachine disc tubeless ready?
Hi there
thank you for your interest. Yes the ARC1650 made for BMC can be used with Tubeless tires. Stay healthy, Friso "DT Swiss".
Hi ! I have an dt swiss r460 rim that is 18mm wide, which rim tape do I use ? 19mm or 21mm ? Tks !
I believe 21mm is the way to go according to DT Swiss website
Why do you recommend that that the tubeless tape be 2mm wider than inner rim width?
Hi Jeff, that is because the rim bed is U-shaped and wider than the rim width measured between the hooked sidewall. 2mm extra just about compensates this extra distance. Best regards, José, DT Swiss
There is a little rubber washer that came with the tubeless stems to convert my DT Swiss e1800 rims to tubeless. Does it go inside our outside the rim on the valve stem?
Hi Timothy, I assume you have a silver tubeless valve. Take all parts of the valve and insert it from the inside then add the o-ring and the screw nut comes last. You might have an oval vinyl sticker, this you apply on the outside over the valve hole to make a better seal with the valve stem to prevent water from entering the rim. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
I got the xmc spline 1200 and my back tyre leaks air from the little hole on the outside of the rim (cannot pump it up). Is it broken or should sealent fix that? The front wheel was pumped easily without sealant first.
Hi Ronny, as long as you don't see a crack in your sidewall, the rim is OK. Most likely your system is leaking at the valve hole or the tubeless ready tape. If it does not seal while riding or shaking the wheel, check the valve seating and the tubeless ready tape. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
I'd like to know if I can convert my old dtswiss AM1900 rim originally mounted on Canyon nerve AM7.0. Thank you
Hi Igor
The AM1900 wheelset is a customer specific ( OEM ) wheelset. Please check with the Bike Producer if the wheelset was intended to be used Tubeless. Have a nice day, Friso "DT Swiss".
Hi I have DT Swiss R24 Spline DB wheels.
Are these tubeless compatible ?
If so what rim tape width would you recommend?
It says 622x18 - I believe that means the rim inner bed s 18mm so I'm guessing 20mm, but if not available, can we go bigger ad how much?
Thanks in advance and great video.
I've just found the wheels are tubeless compatible, but have another question.
Are the R24 rims compatible with other brands of valve or are the DT Swiss ones essential?
Hi Dave
Sorry for the late reply to your question. For sure the DT Swiss valves are optimized for our rim profiles and so we can gurantee a proper function. But we know many other would work as well. If your using other tubeless valves you need to work our by yourself if they will work properly with out rims. Sincerly, Friso "DT Swiss".
Hi Dave
The R24 rim got an inner width of 18mm. So your right a 20mm tape would work perfect. I would not suggest to go bigger, as the tape would lap over the inner side walls and could prevent a proper seating of the tire. Stay healthy, Friso "DT Swiss".
@@dtswiss Thanks for your reply - I was struggling to source the 20mm so I risked 21mm and just fitted today - fingers crossed.
@@dtswiss Have used a different brand due to difficulty getting DTswiss quickly or - vague website descriptions in some cases. They were not so easy so wish I'd gone with the DTswiss ones. That might be step two. Thanks for the reply.
I have got my bike from Canyon recently with DT Swiss Spline M1900 wheels rim width 25mm rear and 30mm front. What tape width shall I use for converting it to tubeless? I was a bit confused cuz I found somewhere in the web recommendation to use 23mm tape for those wheels and you recommend to take tape 2mm wider than the rim width. Can I use just one tape width for both wheels?
Hi Dmitriy, please check your wheels first if you find them with a tubeless ready tape from DT Swiss they are already prepared and all you need is the valves. Can you use the same tape on 25mm and 30mm rims? We don't recommend it. You would have to use the narrow tape on the wider rim and run into some trouble since it is vital that the tape fully runs from side to side to make the system airtight. The correct tape width is 27mm and 32mm for your wheels.
Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
@@dtswiss Hi José, Thanks for your reply. I have checked the wheels and you were right there was a tape and I needed just valves and milk to make it tubeless. :-)
Hello, I’ve recently applied rim tape on a ex 1501 30 mm (I used a 32 mm width) but it doesn’t keep the air. What could be gone wrong? Wrong apply of the rim tape? Any defect on the rim? Thanks in advance
Hi there, thank you for your message. I'm sorry that it will not work for you to get your Wheel tubeless. It's hard to find a solution remote but I will try. First of all I would try to use two layers of tubeless tape instead of just one. With some tires this might work better and help to solve your Problem. The next point I would check is the tubeless valve, are you using the original DT Swiss one? With the original valve must be aligned perfectly to seals properly. A typical sign, there is something wrong with the valve is, tubeless liquid and/or air will come out of the spoke holes. This would be my suggestions. Have a nice day, Friso "DT Swiss".
hi! i have a canyon infliite 5 with dt swiss c1850 spline db rims with inner widths of 22 mm. what rim tapes width do you suggest?
Hi Alessandro, our rule is to add up another 2mm, we use our 25mm tape for this wheel set. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
how many layers for Road bike application ie up to 80-90 psi?
Hello Artur,
As long you are using the appropriately sized tubeless tape and have insured that your tape is centered all the way around the rim, then one layer of tape should be sufficient for a good seal. Also insure that you have 15cm (6 inches) of tape overlap beyond the valve hole. Two layers of tubeless tape are only required for asymmetrical rims. Some of our older pin jointed road rims may require an extra layer of tubeless tape. If you have any questions regarding a tubeless set up for your specific application please Email our service department.

When i do the first pump without sealant, to check If everythings is in place. They leak air by the spokes. Pretty sure thats not supposed to happen. Its brand New wheels and tires. People say Its because dt swiss are taped so poorly that you have to redo it yourself. Can that be true? Its really annoying on a brand new $4000 bike.
Hi Danny, our wheels are only tubeless ready if the tubeless ready tape is applied. What type of DT Swiss wheel set is on your bike, and is a DT Swiss tubeless ready tape applied? If you want your tire to seal well even without sealant you can apply soap water or application fluid as stated by many tire and liquid suppliers. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
Nice
How much do R 470 700C disc sell for now days in canadaian dollar? Thank u
Hi Chef
Thank you for your message and your interest in our products. Regarding your question. We do not have MSRP ( manufacturer suggested retail price ) for any currency available. You should get this information from the distributor in your country:
www.dtswiss.com/en/support/dealer-locator
As you can see on the Website the MSRP in US$ is 53.-. Enjoy riding your Bike, Friso "DT Swiss".
DT Swiss thank you 😎 that’s a good deal for light and durable wheel!
Are the 533d rims tubeless ready?
Hi Alberto, you can convert the rim to tubeless. I suggest to use our 25mm tubeless ready tape. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss
You did the valve wrong, BTW. You should screw the dust cap onto the valve, line it up with the rim, then tighten the valve onto the rim. #jusayin
If only road tubeless slid onto the rim like this... It's near impossible to get a road tire on my DT Swiss rims.
