To anyone who’s curious, here’s a list of the food they ate in order:
Pancit bihon - thin bihon noodles mixed with meat and vegetables
Chicken adobo - chicken marinated in a sauce made up of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and seasoning
Sinigang - soup, known for its sour taste, made up of meat and vegetables
Lechon kawali - deep fried pork belly
Pancit lomi - soup made up of thick egg noodles, meat, & vegetables

I'm almost 50 years old and that "warm bottle of coke" that your friend was talking about is most likely exclusive to him or his family. I'm pretty sure that most households in the Philippines had refrigerators even before your friend was born. The weather may be hot but nobody would choose to drink warm coke (or any "warm" beverage, that is supposed to be cold, for that matter) unless one is desperate enough or had no choice. To be honest, asking for a warm coke under that premise, is kind of insulting.

I'm a filipino. So for people wanting to try filipino food, when you try a viand, you usually try to get some bits of veggies, some bits of meat, some soup, and some rice in one bite using a spoon. It is the best way to eat it cause everything balances out the taste. Glad you still like it Josh and Katie. I recommend Filipino desserts next, Leche Flan, Halo halo, Kakanin, Biko, Mais con Yelo and more.

the savory thick soup is called lomi. usually, it's eaten for breakfast or snack. that seafood variety is my favorite.
