These character analyses are great. As someone who binged-read the manga a year ago (and just watched the movie earlier this year) and never really gave much thought on the complexity of the characters and their developments, these videos makes me appreciate how well-written Koe No Katachi is. There were a lot of moments when I'm watching your videos that something in my brain just clicks on how much the actions of these characters makes sense as you explain them. Great job dude :D
I like how Yuzuru inhabits the whole “not like other girls” trope, but in a true way. It’s that she truly doesn’t want to be like girls, because in her more naive eyes, they are weak. To be strong she must be boyish. And her development includes her realizing that being like other girls is okay. It’s okay to wear her uniform with a skirt, and cry, and step back. She doesn’t always have to be strong, and overbearing, and protective.
I think it’s because Yuzuru isn’t trying to make a statement or be different out of resentment for her gender or the likings. She just wanted to be there for her sister, and all those experienced cultivated until her tomboyish state was brought into fruition. It’s sad, really. She’s clearly tormented and wants to be enough for her sister to love life, but she ends up dismissing her own well-being.
When Yuzuru sleeps next to her grandma and then wakes up and found her dead it symbolizes that even if you really close to someone and try your best you cannot change the destiny of that person, some events have to happen even to someone else to change yourself. her grandma told her she need to take care of herself and by her death she make that change, she made Yuzuru .wear her school uniform, try to study for school and also make herself more vulnerable by let Shoya walk her to the funeral Because she is just a child she cannot really understand that her actions actually save Shoko from suicide, because she take all that photos she needed her camera once again and by sending Shoya to collect it he be able to save Shoya, and because of her friendship with Shoya everyone was together at the fireworks event. Maybe our actions cannot change the outcome directly but indirectly every action have an impact like a butterfly effect. That is the all idea of that movie. even Ueno said that if Shoko won't come to the school in the first place everyone would be friends like before. even so they friends again. well it is really complicated :) again we cannot change destiny only the path.
@@uraveragehoovy wdym- they can have a favourite character. She's actually *15* i understand why you thought she was really young though i kinda get it.
I think another character I'd like to see analyzed would be Shouko's mother. We don't really see a lot from her perspective and she often comes off as overbearing and critical, but she's really just entirely devoted to protecting her daughter through tough love.
The last chapter 62.5 in the manga is specifically about her if you want to read, and chapter 60 for anyone to continue from what they left of in the movie.
I really love Yuzuru, and I was surprised to find out she was actually a girl. For the most part of the movie, despite heavy hints, I thought she was a boy.
Am I the only person who right off the bat knew she was a girl? I thought she was a trap when she said she was a boy and then when she confirm I swear I shouted knew it!
My dad always says that a girl can never be as strong as boy, and I was always surrounded by people that wanted me to be stronger. My parents wanted me to grow up strong and independent, and my best friend would always have wrestling matches that I was very determined to win, so I wanted to be stronger. Because my dad always talked about girls as if they were weaker than boys, I thought the only way to become strong was to become like a boy. I would always dress like a boy, I always showed an interest in sports, and I would even go as far to insult girls saying that they are stupid and that nobody likes them. I am no longer like this, and if fact quite feminine today, but my former desire to be perceived as a boy to be stronger makes yuzuru a very relatable character for me. Another thing that I noticed is that when shoya sees yuzuru crying, she is in her school uniform, which is the most feminine thing she wears in the whole movie.
And even willing to show compassion, empathy, and forgiveness to the one who ruthlessly bullied her beloved sister and befriended him. Their friendship was so damn heartwarming. If she were a little older, I think they would’ve made a much better couple than him and the big sister lol
I can't remember if it was anime only as it's been a while since I read the manga but yuzuru asked sho to walk her to her grandmother's funeral, I don't know why but I loved that scene with the 2 of them, all her bravado about being her sisters protector but in reality she is still a young girl and asking sho to walk her to the funeral made me love her even more
That’s why I love the (what’s the word…) contradiction (?) of tomboys. They try to be strong and masculine but they can’t help but still be feminine and sweet. It’s very endearing and just made me want to adopt her lol
I love this little girl so much. I wish I could adopt her. She was definitely my favorite character. She’s just so precious while trying so hard to be strong. Also her forgiving Ishida and becoming friends with him is hands down my favorite part of the movie. It’s such an incredibly human moment that she sees his shame and she moves the umbrella and just looks at him. Then she doesn’t have to make a big deal out of forgiving him, just invites him to keep walking with her and they move forward. That’s what forgiveness is really all about. Letting it go and moving forward. Ps: you say there was nothing she could’ve done to stop her sisters attempt but I really wonder what would’ve happened if she had just flat out **told her**: “it will break my heart if you die. I will never get over it. I might not even want to live myself. Please keep living for me.” That’s basically what Ishida says to her after he gets out of the hospital. And I think it would have a significantly better chance than anything else.
Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I really liked your analysis. Yuzuru was easily my favorite character, and that scene where she realizes everything she tried was fruitless is heartbreaking. You convinced me, I'm going to the library and getting the manga. Maybe I'll rewatch the movie Saturday too...
Ayy thank you ive been.waiting for you to finally get to yuzuru , my personal favourite and I believe her and shoukos relationship is one of the most endearing, strong and genuine sibling dynamics in anime. I liked that you closely linked her with her mother and how as she developed she gradually realised that she was in some ways similar to the one she despised so much and eventually that hatred grew to understanding and appreciation. Even though she was the youngest of the main cast I would have to argue she matured to rival everyone else in terms of growth well seems to me more than kawaii anyways. I always enjoy these videos so are you planning on tackling the anohana cast next?
Yuzuru is my favorite character as well. I didn't like her in the first moment she was introduced, but I alredy started to change my mind by the secound time we saw her
the Erased music what you put in was epic and fitted it I love music from Erased and The Silent Voice two great different animes but still both amazing.
Ayyy potential Best Girl. Characters to analyze? I'd dig one of the characters from Madoka Magica personally. QB or Sayaka would be good choices I think, though Homura is probably the obligatory choice.
Hi! I loved and watched all the character analysis you made for "A Silent Voice." It's just so insightful and spot on. When I watched the movie all those traits and points were noticed but I didn't know what to name. So you did a great job clarifying that and delivering your persuasive perception. So, I really hope if you could do Shoko's and Yuzuru's mother!!!! Cause the manga also cut out key scenes that were very informative about her (& interesting). Such as, in the manga, during the Grandma's funeral, she said 'Thank you' to Ishida. Also that scene where she was drunk and lively talking to Ishida's mother at the sushi dinner. I first hated her when I saw the movie, as I thought she was cold and scary, but I loved at the end (especially in the manga) how she even smiled when she was taking Shoko to Tokyo. I love her development so it would be great if you can talk about it. Especially since you've been doing the main characters who are children, but not yet the adults.
She was one of my favorite characters and I also think that she was a great character her roll in the movie had a big impact because without her I think that Ishida might have not made it up to Yuzuru and Shoko’s mother. As well as truly knowing Shoko’s felling toward him and his friends. Also he wouldn’t have saved her life if it wasn’t for Yuzuru asking Ishida to get her camera. She also recorded the Ferris wheel ride. I feel like she was one of the best characters in the movie. I wish I had a friend like Yuzuru because she always helps people she think are good and feels bad for people she sees getting bullied. This is why I think she has one of the biggest impact. She always tries to protect Shoko as seen throughout the movie. She always wants to try to make her seem like the bigger person and tries to hide her weaknesses. Great Job understanding and making it to where others can understand what great of an impact she is. Thank you :)
Good to see you back with Koe no Katachi character videos, also great use of the OSTs from other anime. Can you do a character analysis from one of the characters from either Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Stella or Shizuku), Re:Zero (such as Rem and Ram or Natsuki Subaru), Fuuka (Yuu Haruna or Fuuka Akitsuki), or Asterisk War (with say Ayato or Julis) ? They are just my suggestions but what you think?
One of the funniest scenes from the manga was when Tomohiro Nagatsuka and Ishida take Yuzuru to the bath house for a confrontation. This was the point of the manga where they find out she is a girl and Shouko's sister. The expressions of horror on Yuzuru's face being confronted by a room of naked old men (plus Tomohiro and Ishida) was PRICELESS. She runs screaming out of the bath house. Although I kept asking myself... do men in Japan get together naked in a bath house to confront each other? I was like that is really messed up... I guess it is a completely different culture. But I can see why this scene was left out of the movie since it was so funny and didn't fit with the tone of the movie. BTW right after this happens Yuzuru confesses that she is Shouko's sister.
Yuzuru is awesome. Whenever I finish a story like this I find myself being incredibly torn, while I loved the journey and by the end usually the greatest struggle, what the story concentrated on, is confronted and dealt with to a degree, on the other hand their lifes are really just starting and I want to see more where it leads. Yuzuru is so young in the series that we cant even begin to get a solid grip on what kind of adult she will be, who she will grow up to become and that just makes me sad because I am curious. Epilogues are usually corny but imo they are by far the best way to end the story. They wont always be to everyone's likes but personally I find ambivalence a lot worse, I usually hate when stuff is open to interpretation, like Shoko and Shouya's relationship. We can all make a headcanon and imagine how the characters will be when they are older and their lifes is heading to a close but we are not the writers of the story, its the writers responsibility to finish what they started in my eyes and leaving the story of these people just as they are about to take on the world seems like a terrible shame.
would it be possible to do an analysis on all the characters from this movie? i know thats asking for a lot but im just so interested in these characters and watching these videos give me a much better understanding of them. it puts a new perspective on these characters i love.
+volt792000 Maybe eventually. A lot of time goes into each one, and I’m only able to do RUclips as a hobby, so I can’t really make any promises, but I’ll do my best! 😁😊
I agree very much with your Yuzuru assessment. I'm about 85% done with the last manga--after having seen the movie 3X (all reaction, mind you, and only in one was I able to see the movie in it's entirety due to the YT Channel having external links to their full series/movie-reactiong)--and JUST HAD to see your Naoko analysis; this lead me to others in the series (Kawai, Mashiba and, now, lil sis). I'm gonna let my cell charge back up, finish the manga, then check out some of your other character breakdowns. Also, I'd LOVE to see you break down the characters of any/ALL of: Kimi no Todoke Bleach Hana Kimi Chobits Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto Ao no Haru Ride InuYasha Faster Than a Kiss YuGiOh Peach Girl Death Note Fruits Basket Kaichou wa Maid-sama Naruto/Naruto Shippuden Perfect Girl Evolution Ouran High School Host Club Kamisama Kiss Mei-chan no Shitsuji Skip Beat and My Little Monster
Very well done. I have only seen the movie, so this helps a lot. Kind painful though, as trying to be strong and more like a boy has been how a certain person I know has defined herself and fought to be. But perhaps in some ways that person was fighting to be someone she was not, and destroyed herself in the process. Hopefully that person will be able to find out who she really is and no longer project a tough, strong image (which is actually insecure) but radiate true strength.
Yikes all these comments saying they have a crush on this character and calling her cute is really weird to me, you only see this character as a child soo chill.
It's not official that mother Yaeko ripped off Miyako's earring, though. There are many theories. Such as she just slapped Miyako hard enough, Miyako ripped it off herself as a desperate attempt to ask for forgiveness for her son pulling off Shoko's hearing aids and injure one of her ears, or it could even be just what Shoya imagined when he started to process his remorse.
SPOILERS This video is great, Thank you. Yuzuru is my favorite character. Everything you said was basically what I said, Whenever o first saw her in the movie. I honestly did think that she was a boy but as time went on. I noticed that she wasn't a boy, that's whenever I started to like. The directors of this movie to implement her into it that well was very. As the movie went on, I noticed that me and her hobbies were the same and I grew on to liking her. That's why she's my favorite.
Still took a bit of analysis, but yea, whenever you adapt something that long into a movie you have to cut a lot of stuff out, and while I think they did a good job deciding what to cut out, that other stuff can give you more context towards who those characters are and what they’re like. 💯
a lot of things in theis movie happened becuaes of yuzuru. ishida saved nishimiya? becuase yuzu asked ishida to get her camera. and many more there's this sparkling water from this local shop with "yuzu puree" in it
(This was just going to be a reply to another comment but i wanted to make this go into the larger pool of them) i relate to her alot. I never really notice myself until i have it pointed out but i constantly put other people over myself in every instance i can, if they deserve that at least. Its unhealthy, but im unhealthy in general, i have too many medical issues to count. But i still just want to help my friends and brothers. Even if it comes at my expense, which it does many times. I tend to rewatch this movie when i feel like im doing too much. Many times it reminds me i really am, but im stubborn and just keep going..

Also, I'd LOVE to see you break down the characters of any/ALL of:
Kimi no Todoke
Bleach
Hana Kimi
Chobits
Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto
Ao no Haru Ride
InuYasha
Faster Than a Kiss
YuGiOh
Peach Girl
Death Note
Fruits Basket
Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Naruto/Naruto Shippuden
Perfect Girl Evolution
Ouran High School Host Club
Kamisama Kiss
Mei-chan no Shitsuji
Skip Beat
and
My Little Monster
Very well done. I have only seen the movie, so this helps a lot. Kind painful though, as trying to be strong and more like a boy has been how a certain person I know has defined herself and fought to be. But perhaps in some ways that person was fighting to be someone she was not, and destroyed herself in the process. Hopefully that person will be able to find out who she really is and no longer project a tough, strong image (which is actually insecure) but radiate true strength.
Thanks for the video the real best girl
Grandma was the best girl😊
Yikes all these comments saying they have a crush on this character and calling her cute is really weird to me, you only see this character as a child soo chill.
My girl!!!!!!!
Why do I feel exposed O_O
Yuzuru Nishimiya is best girl
She did not look 15- she looked like 12.
I feel like i heard part of ERASED’s ost in that “naivety” (idk spelling) section
Best girl after her sister
She is me but a little older I'm being her for Halloween lol
Thanks I'm doing a character analysis for class and want to see other people's analysis for character I'm indending to do one on shouko and shoya
I love you all
& We love you Yuzuru
yo give me the suc- nevermind
This anime movie had me broken
Gotta say though, the mother was WAY too harsh for physically harming Ishida's mother with the hearing aid to "teach him/her a lesson"
By the title of the thumbnail I thought this was going to be a weird video but it turns out the numbers just blocked the words "ysis" from analysis.
Yet you still clicked on the video... 😂😂😂

This video is great, Thank you.
This movie could show all the long story and still be good
I want to meet yuzuru in real world 😭😭but it can't possibly
yuzuru nishimiya the best girl
Yuzuru is easily the best character
Just a suggestion but you should do an analysis on their moms.
Full analysis: Precious child
I use not to like her at first but now I began to like and apprectice her.
Why don't you analyz the main characters
Damn so reading the manga make you understand more
Still took a bit of analysis, but yea, whenever you adapt something that long into a movie you have to cut a lot of stuff out, and while I think they did a good job deciding what to cut out, that other stuff can give you more context towards who those characters are and what they’re like. 💯
@@TheAnimeDude yea I understood why they cut the parts XD but the back stories are interesting
@@TheAnimeDude Also nice job
a lot of things in theis movie happened becuaes of yuzuru. ishida saved nishimiya? becuase yuzu asked ishida to get her camera. and many more
there's this sparkling water from this local shop with "yuzu puree" in it
(This was just going to be a reply to another comment but i wanted to make this go into the larger pool of them)
i relate to her alot.
I think yuzuru is so cool!
I love yuzuru so much
God
Thought she was a dude and im like why she hot tho
