Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

I remember I was 6 years old listening to this song for the very first time in my grandmother's house. I couldn't describe how I felt. 20 years later I'm still amazed how someone could propose something so different and incredible.

I found it, fantastic song
Yeah, it was an original song released on her Best Of Album, Paint the Sky with Stars, along with a song of the same name. Makes it super hard to find. This and a few others, like Song of the Sandman and Isobella, which I have only found on her Only Time 4 disc collection.
I remember a scene of this video on TV the Pure Moods 3 series.

This was the last of her videos to incorporate alot of those whimsical Victorian elements. Those elements were notably absent from subsequent videos starting with Only Time. Even her sound changed abit after Paint The Skies With Stars. I really loved the Victorian sounds that were present in all her albums between Water Mark and The Memory of Trees

@@brenainnmacthomais I think making promotional videos for all songs from an album was a big trend in the 80s up to the mid-90s but I haven't noticed that it's still being done these days. I forgot that the magical sound was present in the albums A Day Without Rain but the extreme success of Only Time and its remix and the sound of Wild Child overshadowed the other songs from that album which had those magical elements. But now I've become disconnected from her music after the Amarantine album.
I see what you mean but I think even her And winter came album was good and had decent graphical videos. It wasn't until Dark Sky Island that she changed a lot.
@VIBE I think that the presence of those Victorian elements that I mentioned were strong in her first four albums because of the type of instruments that were used around that decade. I know that synthesizers were also used during the production of the songs on those albums and the make and models of those synthesizers had something to do with the more ethereal and wind-like quality of the sound on those albums. The videos that were made for the singles released from those albums were also like living paintings and mini period films. That also had something to do with the trend in the sort of video concepts that were made for music in the Classical and New Age genres.
She has an angel voice. Love this song.

I wasn't yet 17 when I heard this song. I fell in love with her voice and her songs since then. Actually I was probably 13 or so when I first heard her on a radio. I think the first 2 songs I heard of hers were Caribbean blue and orinoco flow. She's just enya, that's why I love her

Hey David, I thought I was the only one who counted the years and thought about the anniversaries of every song and album she has ever released. Next year September, her breakthrough album Watermark will be reaching 30 years.....and I still listen and enjoy that album to this day! I hope she will release another album to celebrate that milestone jut like she did with And Winter Came, back in 2008. I was really hoping for a tour with the release of Dark Sky Island, but I guess she made the decision to go back and work on another album instead. Fingers crossed!!!

Another anniversary spotter here. Now that its Nov 3rd 2017, it's exactly 20 years to the day when this Only If was released. Such a fantastical and sumptuous song and video. Can remember where I was on first encountering it and later getting to see her promoting it on Royal Variety Show, Letterman and Rosie. Magnificent!!!

Wonderful upbeat song and as usual, her vocals are nothing short of amazing.
On that last day when I left I said these words " If you really want to you can seize the day " even before I heard this song today. This is the 1st time I hearing this song but I sang this sentence even before I heard this song today. It is very fascinating thing to see Enya's soul inside me.
Last time i hear this song was 7-8 years ago, now listening again, still feeling the same, full of cheer and happiness.

The first time I heard of Enya, I had been in the Netherlands for a couple of days, for the start of some of the best times of my life. I had a day off and I was at my hotel and turned on MTV Europe and saw her video, Orinoco Flow, and fell in love.....with her and her music. That was 30 yrs ago and I remember it like it was testerday.
