    I work with the public everyday. Sad to say - most of my customers over the age of 50 are already using walkers and wheelchairs. I am in my mid 70's, in good health and quite active. A plant starch based diet is the only way to go! Love the McDougal and really appreciate all of their efforts at helping people to see the light!❤

      I am happy that you are doing well on a plant based diet. But when you say a plant based diet is the ‘only’ way to go? What do you mean here? Are you suggesting that the plant based diet is food for absolutely everyone? That can’t be true? What about individual variability? I can assure you the mc dougall diet is not ideal at all for myself personally from experience. So I doubt it’s the only way to go for everyone.

      "most of your customers over 50 are using walkers"???? I think you're exaggerating. Myself and all my friends, are over 50 and none of us use walkers. We're not vegan or whole food plant based either. My parents are in their 70's and my in-laws are in their 80's and don't use walkers, they're not vegan or WFPB either. My parents are in their 70's are not plant based, and are not on any medications at all for blood pressure, cholesterol, or anything. I'm not knocking the WFPB lifestyle, but let's stop exaggerating on what the diet will or won't do. That does not serve anyone well. It's not a cure-all.

    Good video. I changed my diet and walk alot and I got so healthy. A starch based diet with some fruit and vegetables.
    I got thin. I was shocked at the comments people make to me. They are rude and disrespectful. All I did was change my eating habits. No high blood pressure, no high cholesterol, no diabetes. All the people who are rude look like they suffering from food poisoning. They say I look sick and unhealthy because im thin and lean but look at them. They think they are healthy.
    I guess this happens alot.

      Both diets work. I went low carb and lost 40 lbs. I also eat low fat and no sugar. I like a potato once in a while. But my diet is low carb.
      Lean meat and a lot of Chicken with vegetables. No beans broccoli or Brussel sprouts because they give me gas. I limit corn because of gas and is not digestible.

      I have the same problem - eat healthy & walk a lot. I was told I'm "trying to show them up." How sad people have to put me down to feel better about themselves. That's typical of people who have narcissistic tendencies. Sad, sad, sad!

      Yes . I basically just at the potatos in the sweet potato family. Washed it boiled it no seasoning on it. Just extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil on it. That was it. And I ate apples. Sometimes I would not eat and just drink water. Those were the five things I put in my body. Apples, sweet potatoes, water, coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. And I got healthy, lean and trim. Thank you so much. The sweet potato 🥔 and apple diet. 🍎 I call it. You can eat just apples and add coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil to you diet. Drink water. Do what works for you. Eat right and move around.
      Don't eat junk food. Eat healthy. Take man made sugar out of your diet. Eat watermelon and it's seeds. You can survive on fruit only or sweet potato only. But you must add a healthy fat like coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. You must boil or bake the potatoes. Never eat uncooked. Cook it first boil or bake. Then eat it. Eat foods that are good for your heart and body. Eat to make your body live. Peace and blessings.

      ​@@d.7819according to Dr. McDougal any fat is not healthy, so no such thing as a healthy fat. You would have lost more weight if you avoided any fats. They create sludge in the liver/gallbladder, reduce oxygen levels, Dr McDougal has videos talking about it. Your better off consuming pork lard, it has less damage and less sludge on the gallbladder per Dr. McDougal.

    I respect both Dr. McDougall and Dr. Gregor. I think the take away is that you need to get started on a WFPB lifestyle first and foremost. Once you have achieved a stable consistent routine, then worry about if and how you want to maximize your nutrition. So many wonderful WFPB Doctors with different approach’s but all of them with the same message. Well done John at being very diplomatic in defense of your incredible program! You saved my life like you did so many others. I posted my first video a couple weeks ago singing your praises. I love your unfiltered approach to this lifestyle. Keep on keeping on.       Well I don’t. After seeing those Dr Gregor clips, I have lost my respect for him. He didn’t even disagree with kindness for his friend John McDougall. I think some level of corporate manipulation has gotten to him.

      @@gamtngirl3655 Yeah, I can see that, but I don’t think he meant any harm in his statements. It seems the more you explore the potato and the different studies, a lot of peoples take on them are very negative due to the Glycemic Index. As John states, we’re supposed to raised our blood sugar when we eat something. With the majority of studies and just the sheer amount of consumption I feel they should be less demonized and if you are warning people about the white forms of potatoes, be clear that it’s more worrisome for those with high blood sugar to begin with. It’s the same damn thing when people use carbohydrates in a generalized way which confuses people and is extremely misrepresentative and counterproductive. I respect your view though. It was a bit off putting but nobody is perfect.

Please do not brush Dr Gregor's cavalier rudeness towards a highly regarded medical professional of Dr McDougall's stature under the rug by saying "a lot of people". This rebuttal is between 2 highly regarded medical professionals not "a lot of people". That said, Dr McDougall remains one of the 4 leaders of the WFPB movement which includes Dr Esselstynn, Dr Barnard, and Dr. C Cadwell.

      Supplementation is not bad. I supplement daily with retinol, cholecalciferol and cobalamin. With zinc if needed.

      @@sunflower8599 During the week I use potatoes the same way you would use a rice or pasta and add plant based toppings. I eat a LOT of different types of beans and non starchy veggies as well. So a meal might be garlic mashed potatoes, mixed bean chilli with lettuce used to make wraps. I have always had issues with binge eating so having those satiety inducing potatoes most days helps A LOT! Good luck!

      @@claresmith9261 I never peel them. Just either boil, bake, or airfry them with different seasonings but they are the base of almost every meal. I eat A LOT of mashed potatoes, just without the butter.

    I can listen to Dr. McDougall all day with all of his infinite wisdom. For decades, he has been a big part of my staying healthy and fit. I'm 63, and on no medications, an avid runner and very energetic. I am so grateful. Thank you!

      @Anna 10 lately I've been eating high starches, like white & brown rice, Lentils, sautéed zucchini, butternut squash soup, white & sweet potatoes, watermelon & bananas. I run almost every day for mental well-being. I do some strength training with bands, kettlebells & dumbells. Plus, I practice Bikram hot yoga off & on. I try not to eat after 4 pm, most of the time. During the day, I do have problems with staying away from sweets, though. But, I'm doing better about it. I'm planning to start using a rowing machine, too, because I enjoy it.

    There’s only one person on the planet that could get me to consider to stop eating potatoes. And that person is Dr. Mcdougall. So it’s with great relief to know I won’t need to even consider doing such a thing!! As a patient of Dr. McDougall’s, who’s experienced a huge weight loss and disease reversal from eating lots of potatoes, I’m glad and grateful for all his amazing work at always delivering the truth. Thank you, Dr. McDougall, for setting the record straight on how wonderful potatoes really are.

    Having changed my eating habits as of November 4th, 2019, in those two years, every single health issue has improved dramatically. I no longer have cravings for fat, sugar or any other unhealthy, disease causing foods. I lost 65 pounds without ever going hungry! Dr. Campbell and Dr. McDougall are absolutely right on. Thank you, TRUE doctors of HEALTH and NUTRITION.

      Great words !! I would still love the natural sugars in fruit and organic golden sugar. Our brains and muscles thrive on it.     Watching this while eating my Huge salad which is 1/3 White Potatoes, 1/3 White rice, 1/3 Red leaf & Arugula lettuce. Dressing is Salsa, lemon juice, ACV, Turmeric, black pepper and a few spoon fulls of hummus topped with orange bell pepper! Mmmmm Plant based for 5 years and in the best shape of my Life in my 40’s and have great healthy blood markers!

      @Dragon Fist 😂😂quite the opposite, I was pre diabetic, overweight, and on 4 daily medications and 3 other semi regularly prior to eating like this. Now I’m a normal BMI, healthy blood markers, and off all my medications. 5 years plant strong!

      I took a break from his videos, health videos in general the last few years. I watched the same videos over and over again - same with Dr. Klaper - because I found them inspirational. I have been listening to interviews and political discussions lately. Well, I'm happy to have typed in his name again. He has not changed his message. I'm glad to hear the same information presented a bit differently. I also like that Chef A.J. just lets him talk and not interupt every 5 seconds.

    Dr. McDougall is my hero! I watched one of his Starch Solution presentations a while back and tried his advice. It works and works consistently. I dropped over 60 lbs by eating potatoes, corn, rice, beans and lentils (and not eating fats, meats and dairy). Amazingly, my family looks at my fat loss and and tells me it's because I'm not eating right and that potatoes will make them fat(er). If I ever find that my eating habits drifted, it's a very easy diet to get back into because the food is really good!
    Other diets I tried never worked or were unrealistic to follow. The insight I gained from Dr. McDougall is the only thing that worked, so I know it's true! He's my hero because he tells the truth!

      @@fawnsteyn7923 It took me around 3 months. It helped that I had no outside influences, like family dinners or friends at restaurants during that time. If I wasn't able to focus so much on controlling what types of food I ate at the time then I doubt I would have seen noticeable results. Fat comes back just as fast, so diet really is a lifestyle choice.

    Dr Greger talks about cooking, refrigerating then reheating potatoes greatly lowers the glycemic index (in his How Not To Diet book). I cook enough for the week, put in the fridge then reheat in my delicious lunch meal!

      I do the same, cut into wedges and put them in the air fryer. They turn out so much better than not precooking.

    First Greger took it on rice and now on potatoes…I’d much rather keep it easy and follow Dr McDougall and Campbell: just eat the right foods and don’t micromanage your diet. It works, effortlessly. That’s the key. Thank you Dr McDougall!!! We love you and your family

      I'm guessing you mean Dr. Greger, not Gregor? Greger wasn't putting on a seminar, he was doing quick Q&As from viewer questions, off the cuff, while walking on a treadmill. This is a 2 hour response video to an off-the-cuff comment Dr. Greger made that took less than 45 seconds. This video is significantly misrepresenting what occurred as some kind of white potato seminar. It was less than a minute long! It was a Q&A! It was off the cuff! Yes, Greger mis-speaks or misremembers that it was night-blindness, not blindness, and perhaps he's wrong even about that. However, it all comes off as pretty triggered, honestly. Dr. Greger is fine with eating potatoes, but he correctly identifies yellow potatoes as better than white, and purple potatoes as better than yellow. The phyt-chemicals that create those colours in the foods themselves are nutritious, so that makes perfect sense, John McDougall seems rooted in traditional thinking of macro and micro nutrients, but we now know there are also incredible synergistic qualities of eating a diversity of phyto-nutrients. And to best get those advantages you want to eat a wide variety of whole plant foods.

      @@mamaksstorytime Right. And that's what Greger said, that eating just white potatoes wasn't ideal, but that McDougall doesn't recommend that anyway. So how was he flippant? What's the problem? Part of the problem is they edited such that it wasn't clear that he was reading a reader's question, and that therefore not all the comments were his own. That's not cool on their part, AJ and McDougall didn't put the clip in a clear context at all.

    i am eating a lot of potatoes, rice, beans, and different grains. my favorite seasoning for potatoes is mustard, garlic powder , ACV and herbs. i am able to maintain my weight eating this way and never going hungry

    I like to switch between the McDougall plan, the Pritikin plan and Dr. Fuhrman Nutritarian plan. Dillon on Well your World RUclips channel talks about this. I was suffering with borderline High Blood Pressure, Asthma, hay fever, Diverticulitis, Arthritis, I weighed 215 pounds ,had no energy ,and felt terrible. The McDougall program helped me lose 35 pounds and all of those health issues are gone! God Bless John McDougall!

    Dr Klaper did a video that had some negative connotations about potatoes 4 months ago. A bunch of people unsubscribed from him. Then he came back with a part two to try and clarify and fix things. I love getting info from Dr Klaper and Dr Gregor but they need to understand huge amounts of people are making important decisions based on their info. Dr McDougall is right to do this video!

      Right, I never heard of Peruvians going blind over eating an all potato diet, that's their native food, they never had health problems before the western diet was I traduce that I've heard of, the Incas were very strong and wise men.

    As a Registered Dietitian, it amazes me how research can focus on ONE ingredient that can cause horrendous problems…. and not consider lifestyle, environment etc…. I also follow Dr. Gregor but take his somewhat sarcastic comments/recommendations lightly. Thank you for this Chef AJ and Dr. McDougal!!!

    I notice in these nutrition videos that Dr Mcdougall is the only one that shows the studies behind his beliefs. I also enjoy the simple common sense behind his programs.

    I live in a northern climate with a short growing season, and sandy, rocky, highly acidic soil. One of the few crops that thrives here is potatoes. I am especially glad to be reassured on the issue of blood sugar spikes and diabetes because I grow potatoes in my garden which we consume all winter long.

      @@csil2863 gotcha. You could probably grow barley, potatoes, and some cold weather crops like cruciferous vegetables and peas there. That sounds like a pretty good diet to me: barley porridge for breakfast with some wild berries or any type of apple or pear trees you might have, pea burgers for lunch with baked fries, and cabbage and potatoes for dinner. I've always thought it was cool to try and live off of a local plant based diet, especially in places where it might seem a little difficult. Anyway, I'm not going to stop eating potatoes anytime soon. My favorite lately is baked fries with bean dip.

      I grew up in Ireland and as a child potato and porridge was the main foods in the day we did eat meat but only once a day n a small amount as it was expensive with vegetables n spuds 🥔 for dinner sweets,chocolate etc was a very rare occasional treat and there was hardly anyone obese and no children were overweight.... it’s just so sad that these carbohydrates are getting such a bad press lately but I’ll go on eating them

      I agree. He's beautiful. We're so used to seeing young photo shopped beauties, and over weight people in our lives, it's hard to recognize a 70 something healthy weight man, and how great he looks. He almost died from a massive stroke when he was young, so he's glad and we're glad he's been here this long and taught us how we can do better. At 83, I'm a grateful girl.

      Why are you people focusing on his complexion or skin? There are many people who are on horrible diets and who smoke cigarettes' and do drugs who have near FLAWLESS skin complexion and look physically beautiful even at an old age!
      It's called GENETICS... Yes, diet does influence your beauty... But judging the accuracy of someone's diet wisdom should NOT be based on just their physical looks... I know some people who have AMAZING healthy diets, but genetically their skin and physique looks horrible...
      People need to STOP LOOKING at someone's OUTSIDE COVER as Validation for their Wisdom!!!
      As the old saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover"
      - Instead READ the contents and wisdoms and make educated opinions based on the CONTENT of the book and their scientific wisdom...
      But even when someone's wisdom may be flawless, they may still have not so great skin complexion...
      GENETICS are a REAL thing (some people are bald due to genetics, but have immaculate diets...)
      People's PAST is a REAL thing (some people don't look great due to past illness and battles, even if now their diet is perfect!)
      There are OTHER factors in peoples lives that contribute to healthy and beautiful skin...
      STOP Wisdom/Knowledge checking via Aesthetic Beauty!!!
      It's an Unscientific and an IRRELEVANT approach! (Unless you're trying to go on a Date with him, and flirting lol )

      @@mystictouch9 This is true. McDougall is healthy (physically) but he does not look healthy on the outside IMO. He looks very frail and weak to me now. Like you said, this has more to do with genetics than anything else.👍

    Dr Greger has lost his mind imho. Dr. McDougall is my guru, and he always brings the proof. My eyes are actually getting better on the McDougall plan. Now this is proof enough for me

      Lost his mind how? He didn't even criticize McDougall, he clearly says he doesn't think an all-potato diet is ideal for optimal health, but then goes on to say he doesn't believe that McDougall recommends an all-potato diet. Greger did misremember or misspeak about blindness/vs. night blindness, and might have even got that wrong. But this has been misrepresented as a "seminar" (McDougall's word). It wasn't, it was an off the cuff comment as part of a Q&A with viewers.
      I think Greger and McDougall both have a lot to offer. But eating the rainbow I think is a superior diet to eating any one whole plant food, no matter how great it is. And I say that as someone who plans to have purple potatoes for supper tonight! :)

    I have been on potato diets (usually add greens and a few pieces of fruit). I have never gone blind- night or otherwise-- and I put my foods into Cronometer to tabulate my protein, minerals and vitamins. I have never been deficient. What is Dr. Greger trying to achieve? There are probably a minority of people who do potato diets and usually its for a short amount of time. Andrew Taylor - "Spud Fit" went on a potato only diet for a year and he improved his health many fold. This is a very sad thing that Dr. McDougall has to defend this.

    I have been aware of Dr. McDougall since his first book The McDougall Plan and The McDougall Health Supporting cookbooks. The covers were plain (i.e. no photos) and beige and pink/peach, if memory serves. I love Dr. McDougall with the heat of a thousand suns. The only starch food that makes me feel great and clean and eliminates cravings for any bad stuff is POTATOES! I like sweet potatoes and brown rice, too, but I love white potatoes. Dr. McDougall has to live forever, b/c I don't want to live in a world without him. He's a national treasure!
    LOL, I left the comment before actually watching the video, and I see at one point he has The McDougall Plan book on the screen. Good to know I was right about it being beige. The cookbooks were pink/peach, I think.

Same deal with guys from Mastering Diabetes in conversation with Paul Saladino. Joel Kahn isn't also that strong in defending his position on "meat is bad for you" while talking to other cardiologists. They are all only so smart when they are being interviewed by vegans, only then can they spread their bs.

    I guess that the obvious question is....."Why would anyone chose to eat just one vegetable of any type when there is this magnificent diversity of healthful plant foods out there?" I get it if you are doing an elimination diet over a period of months. That makes sense. But surely, those eating this way understand that it can't possibly be the most healthful diet for humans?

    The way in which he handled this whole presentation open my eyes to not only how much humility and integrity he has, but an appreciation for how dedicated he is to address this issue with style and class!

    WOWSA !!! I have suffered major dry eyes, clogged glands, chronic styes and chalazions for so many years with doctors/eye doctors just saying it’s “age related”. Now I’m thinking maybe low Vitamin A. I’ve had major digestive problems my entire life. I’m so tired of suffering and just want real help from doctors that care 😢😢😢😢

    I found the starch solution almost 5 years ago, and have been plant based nearly as long. If I found Greger or Fuhrman first, I likely would have seen the rice/potato bashing and never even tried a plant based diet in the first place.

      Greger doesn't bash potatoes or rice. He recommends we eat colourful rice (black, red), and colourful starchy foods (yellow, red, purple). Greger sang the praises of purple potatoes just recently!

    I got a detailed blood analysis a couple of weeks ago, and it indicated that my vegan diet was sufficient for all essential amino acids. I get my protein from plants, beans, lentils, etc. (and potatoes).
    Put white potatoes in chronometer. They show them as complete proteins.
    My measured blood sugars and A1c's are low, too. I ain't got no diabetes! :) Those who are informed say type 2 diabetes is an insulin-resistance problem from too much fat.
    This is more of a scientific "argument" rather that a real world concern for the average person with a variety of food available.

    Please keep going on this. So many of us love you because you’re so scientific and so is Dr. Greger. We also understand that there will be differences of opinion. I pray that Dr. Greger sit down with you and have a frank discussion. Right now I’m disappointed with him because this is such an important subject and he influences so many people to live a better lifestyle. It’s OK. He said it to be wrong.     Personally, I could not cut weight until I cut out white potatoes. Once I subbed brown rice and quinoa, the weight began to fall off. Try it and figure out what works for you. A blood sugar spike is a blood sugar spike. If your body responds that way, it behooves you to make a change.

    Great talk again as MD John McDougall went in depth in the potato/starch theme and the protein one too!
    2 amazing keys 🔑 actually with the one ☝🏿 on fatty acids (he did a special in this one too) to understanding what is the base/BULK of ones nutrition !
    I too come from the same shared background as many, I was omnivorous, I studied macrobiotics, I studied all the raw vegan trends, I’m even a very good chef in most of these, and I also got confused and lost my way along this journey !
    I think he makes a very good point about what should be the bulk again for humanity, for it to be sustainable, and simple, and it is absolutely making sense that it should be simple and that is what made humanity, a successful specie .
    It doesn’t take away the fact that many personalities within the plant-based world have different angles, and maybe different gifts to bring to the party of course. ❤ !!!
    But it is important not to be lost in the forest, in the detail , because it’s very easy to lose a large enough view , and to get lost in details, and since the body is extremely resilient, we have seen it with awful foods and habits of course, how does one person, one individual, thus one anecdotal story, finds its way in all this???
    For me, he has been a light amidst all the voices for seven years now, and since I dived in all of it, and I’m certified in most, I can tell you that it makes sense to understand what the BULK should be , and than to build around it to one’s own tastes !
    So my bases are always the same and simple, simple routines for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and then, through the years through the seasons, I play with side dishes, salads 🥗 even smoothies, and I never lose my way again and I have a ton of energy and it’s funny but since my fat intake is less than 10%, (only 2 spoons of flax by the way) and I lost a lot of fat (yes chef AJ I too wear small black dresses now although I would be a giant next to you) my hot flashes went away as a cherry on the pie !!!
    I hope 🤞🏽 to meet you one day and give you a hug 🤗!!!!
    I also wish I could hug John McDougall and many others!!!

    Chef AJ,. I started watching this some time ago & finally got back to finish watching it today and I'm so glad I did! Colin & I eat "white potatoes" almost every day & on the other days it's sweet potatoes. We have never felt more healthy in our entire lives...We are both in our 50s and have more energy & drive than we did in our 30s for sure! We are very grateful for Dr. John McDougall and all his tireless work towards optimum human health and the health of our planet.     I'm very glad to hear that Dr. Mcdougall still enjoys reading up on the science. I think to demonize white potatoes doesn't help a whole lot but some people get focused on reductionism, down to one food and one nutrient. I'm still healthy on the starch solution and my food is quite inexpensive. The biggest savings of course is not eating at restaurants, but even without that, meat, dairy and processed foods can have considerable cost and eating basic vegetables are cheap.

    I believe white rice should be defended as vehemently as white potatoes. That's my experience anyway and also consider that white rice was the primary very successful treatment for diabetes and obesity by Dr. Kempner for years.

      That's McDougall's delimma. White potatoes are a whole food. White rice is depleted of nutrients which is why folks with failing kidneys did well. The rest of us have no problem processing whole grains and tubers. Why do without their nutrients just because depleted rice is all a kidney patient can tolerate? There's no defense for eating white rice except for kidney patients, or perhaps, starving nations. McDougall knows this.

      @@sunflower8599 @Sandra Carli, you're both incorrect. This was a question from a viewer as part of a Q&A. It was the viewer's question that called out McDougall by name, not Dr. Greger. In his response he said he does not believe that McDougall believes you should eat only white potatoes. And that's correct, McDougall recommends eating a variety of starchy foods. Your confusion is understandable as AJ/McDougall have misrepresented this as part of a seminar. It wasn't a seminar, it was a quick off-the-cuff answer to a viewer question in a larger Q&A.
      I'd like an answer to why Chef AJ & McDougall misrepresented the context of Greger's comments so badly.

I saw about 35 seconds of Dr. Greger footage (repeated multiple times) in the whole video, of which a big chunk was him reading a viewer's question (and edited in such a way that it wasn't clear that the initial part of the video was him reading a viewer's question).

    This supports that Dr Greger might need to get in some clinical hours again too, in contrast to summarising the papers.
    You need to combine the two - the likes of the clinical examples, tied to the research literature properly appraised as Dr M does here. It makes clear that Dr G made a screw up on this one.
    If he'd treat people and studied it like Kempner or McDougall has, he probably wouldnt have made that statement, or at least would have retracted it.

      @@ScrapKing73 because (a) in populations following starch centred diets (or potato dominant diets, like here) the chances of disease are significantly reduced and (b) the phytonutrient of potatoes is likely enough for human needs, if the clinical and population studies are robust - and they seem to be.
      It's omnivores and particularly SAD diet proponents that have to worry much more about additional phytonutrients to try and counter the effects of the foods they're taking in, and other substances.

      @@JohnDoe-xk1dv I agree with McDougall's response that eating an all-potato diet will not likely lead to night blindness. However, a diet rich in a variety of whole plant foods is even better still. That was Greger's ultimate point. AJ and McDougall failed to present Greger's video correctly. He was quoting and then responding to a viewer's question. Most of the comments in the video weren't Greger's own. In response to the viewer's question he said McDougall doesn't recommend an all-potato diet, which is true. McDougall recommends one eat a variety of starchy vegetables. I'm on a predominantly whole food, strictly plant-based diet and I think McDougall and Greger both have lots to add. But I take more issue with McDougall here who presented Greger's video lacking in important context.
      As for phytonutrients, it's not about "enough" phytonutrients. I don't even understand that comment, phytonutrients aren't like fibre or vitamin C, it's not about getting "enough" of them. *scratching my head* All plants have lots of phytonutrients. What we're discovering is the rich synergistic qualities of phytonutrients, and we frankly don't know enough about them yet and their health-promoting qualities. What seems to be clear in the preliminary research, though, is that a wider variety of phytonutrients seems to be better. It's likely that humans tend to crave variety as a survival mechanism to encourage us to eat a wider variety of foods, for this very reason of nutrient diversity. Ditto microbiome diversity.

      Gregor doesn’t need clinical hours! He takes studies, and interprets the data and presents it in a way that those of us who aren’t doctors and scientists can understand. All the big name docs have their own pet peeve finite detail that is special to them. Sometimes details aren’t the same color to all people. Sometimes there are shades, but ultimately they’re on the same page. Think about the color red. Tomato red, blood red, cardinal red, cherry red, red wine.
      I could go on but it’s pointless-and so is McDougall ‘s point.
