Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing a great review. I have reviewed the Magenta Plus and the Cadorna Milk and have been very impressed with the quality of the coffee produced. All the best, TruePreView
Thanks :-)
Hello Kevin, I normally use the hot water to purge the wand on these machines. It is very quick.
Hi Kev. I now have this machine and am pleased so far. I'm hoping you're still planning to make some more videos to help get the best from the machine. E.g. I'd really appreciate a masterclass on using the wand to get the best microfoam, jug and wand angle, wand depth and so on. Also, what settings you might have found to optimise the shot quality. Thanks 😊☕
Brilliant review. Thanks for this.
thanks! :-)
Very informative video much appreciated , shame about the lack of live sound though.
A great review as you have covered all the points I was thinking about. These machines big highlight is that they can be used by anyone without experience. For this, there needs to be some sort of automation of the milk steaming.
yeah but Gaggia has plenty of other machines that automate milk frothing in their range. This is aimed at people who want the convenience of automated brewing (no manual grinding, no weighing out, no tamping, no filling, emptying and cleaning portafilters etc) but also don't want the stiff cappuccino foam that the majority of B2C machines do. For me this is actually a sweet spot.
So, do I invest my cash and time in a classic pro and a sage grinder, or just get one of these and push a button??? Really enjoying your videos
What brew ratio should you aim for with these machines?? - brought the machine off the back of this brilliant video btw! 😀
Hello
What are the differences between the gaggia cardona plus vs gaggia magenta plus ?
Would be interested to know what the prestige is like with the milk carafe
I got a Jura Ena 9 now, but looking for a new machine. Is this something to replace it with?
Looks more watery than my flair. How would you compare this to the flair or similarly priced manual device? Thanks!
Thanks for your review. Which fully automatic machine in about the same price range as the Magenta Plus is in your opinion “best in test”?
Cheers for review kev. I was just ready to get the anima plus, but with your recent discount code, I wondered whether there's a significant benefit of going for the magenta? Looks like a slightly fancier machine, especially the interface, memory function and ntemperature/volume control. Any thoughts? Cheers
Where can I find the information about grams of coffee to aroma setting?
Can't see it in the manual. Think you said one bean selected is equivalent to 7g.
Thank you very much for this very informative video. Do you think the five grinder adjustments are enough? I hesitate between the Cadorna plus with the ten adjustments of the grinder but much more expensive.
To be honest the number of grind adjustments on bean to cup machines probably isn't all that important, they'll all have a similar range, some just have more steps, but that's not really important with bean to cup machines. Cheers, Kev.
Hi Kevin, thanks for your work, I'm wondering about the brewing speed, it seems fast to me, about 10s. I have the impression the the gaggia brera has a slower brewing time, almost the double, am I right? Does the brera pour better espresso?
thanks a lot
marco
Hi Marco :-). This is a first use, overview video, so I'm speeding up most of the shots, cutting etc., rather than showing them in full duration. I'll so another more in depth workflow video showing exact shot times etc., but the time and quality of the shot is unlikely to be much different on the Brera, most of the Gaggia machines use the same Gaggia brewing unit and the same grinder, so it's unlikely that one is going to give much difference when it comes to the shot, than another.
Cheers,
Kev
so, which one makes the best tasting espresso, Gaggia MAgenta or Cadorna (or the Delonghi Dinamica)?
I mean I don’t expect it to taste better than a semi manual machine but wondering if that coffee maker would pull off better coffee than a nespresso 😅
Can you control the temperature,I like my coffee extremely hot ,I currently have a Nespresso machine ,thinking on doing an upgrade.
Thanks in advance
Hi Les, you can adjust the coffee temp yes, although it's the brew temp so how much impact it'll have on the cup temp is another story. I'll grab a thermometer and report back, cheers
@@Coffee_Kev thanks brother
how long does it take for the machine to warm up to be ready to make espresso when you turn it on?
Not long, a minute or so
Can anyone help, is this one noticeably quieter than brera and anima? Thanks
We just bought a Magenta Plus, waiting for it to be delivered....
How do you like it? Just ordered magenta prestige
Looking at trading in my breville "sage" barista express for this
Hello..
Please help me, i want to buy the machine but i have a question.
I want to know if the magenta plus can be tuned to prepare espresso in less than 40ml? (for example 30ml). Or the preset value of 40ml is the minimum espresso quantity the machine makes?
Thanks in advance!
Hey, did you get it? Care to share your experience if yes? 🙂
No, i bought the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige instead
Is it possible to add a shim to the grinder to make it grind finer? Even at the finest setting and highest dose, espresso still flows too fast.
Hi :-). Are you determining this from my video, or you this machine yourself? I don't think it's possible to shim the burrs on this grinder. I may be wrong. Cheers, Kev.
@@Coffee_Kev my mother has this machine. I get much better espresso when I use my manual grinder.
See here:

@@Yirgamalabar Yeah bypassing the built-in grinder via the bipass chute is definitely a way to improve the espresso quality with these machines, as you're improving the grinding quality and control over grind size. The only thing you need to make sure is that you're not overloading it, as you can break the brewing unit if you overload it with pre-ground. Cheers.
@@Coffee_Kev I'm grinding 10.5 gram per shot using similar grind size as I do for other machines. I don't hear any suspicious sounds coming from the Gaggia while it tamps the coffee. Hopefully 10.5 gram is not too much.
Great video - thanks. But serious amount of splatter.
Americano is alway coffee then water, what you call “the right way” is called a Long Black I belive
I posted a comment earlier and don't see it here. I watched a few of your videos today and have a question. I have gone down the rabbit hole of espresso machines and gone from looking at semi-automatic and a grinder to automatics. I am still a little on the fence but maybe you can advise me. I am a complete newbie and do not know how to make any of these drinks. I think if I get an automatic we will use it more and get a better product in the drink since we do not know what we are doing. I would love a machine that has a carafe and a wand and have been researching and thought with the Gaggia Deluxe or Milk machines, I could pull the tubing off and just use the wand if I want better creamier milk. Is that true and does it work well? I feel like the carafe (Prestige) version give milk that is just foamy and not creamy. If you could answer my milk questions that would be great. Then I will have to decide on which machine to get (Anima, Cordona, Valesca, or Magenta). I wish I could find a comparison chart of all of them and their features. Thank you!
Hi Joyle, yup this is what I like about the capuccinotore frothers vs the carafe, you can decide to pull the frother off and use the steam pipe as a pro steam wand. Also if you get the Cadorna milk, later down the line I think they're going to be selling the pro wand that comes with the Cadorna Barista, so if you wanted to you could add this at a later date. Cheers
First take the plastic cover off the reader.
The espresso doesn't look great from this to be honest... looks very watery
Hi Stephen, it's bean to cup, the espresso is about as good as I'd expect from most home bean to cup machines. I wouldn't say it's very watery, the first couple of shots maybe where I pulled longer single shots, but if you're setting the bean setting on high, 11g, and pulling a double shot from 22g, it's not watery, certainly not in comparison to other bean to cup machines - but admittedly if you're a traditional espresso machine user you may find bean to cup espresso to not quite hit the spot.
@@Coffee_Kev thanks for the reply! Think I'll stick with my gaggia classic! It cost my 80 euro second hand and makes amazing espresso
What about if you’re accustomed to coffee from a French press? How does this strength compare
My Magenta can't get past the initial setup. It prompts to fill the water tank, which I do, then prompts to insert the water spout, which I do....and then nothing happens. take it out put it back in, wiggle it about. nothing allows me to move past the "Insert water spout" screen. no buttons do anything, apart from power which allows me to turn it off. Machine is an expensive hunk of useless plastic until I can get past this damned startup screen.
Hi, if you're in the UK I'd get in touch with Gaggia Direct, click "meet us on Zoom", and I'm sure they'll be able to talk you through it. Cheers, Kev.
