Several years ago I device to make a mouse... not just to create another product for the shelves, but to understand the process and to meet the people involved. In this video, I talk about the whole process... traveling to China/Hong Kong/Taiwan, etc. We visited a few factories and I've been using this mouse ever since.

That fact that your mouse can be configured without any software makes it the perfect mouse for GNU+Linux users like myself.
I still don't get why that software cannot be cross platform lol
@@DSDSDS1235 It easily could if the mice vendors funded cross platform support. It would cost them more. However there is a very large silver lining. Almost all vendor specific configuration software is utterly proprietary so evev if it was ported for gnu+linux it would be a small thorn in our sides and yet, because it never got ports the Free and open source community has reverse engineered a large portion of mice and created truly Free configuration utilities which is fantastic. From the top of my head I can't quite remember but many brands have at least one utility if not two. There's Piper via libratbag, razer, older roccat mice, logitech and a bunch of others. So on effect this problem has to a certain degree solved itself. While most gaming mice will function on a basic level if you plug them in and many are configurable with libre configuration utilities it's still a very good idea to research mice before you go out to buy. I wish there was at least one vendor that contributed directly themselves to the libre software stack, hell, maybe there is because I've been using the same mouse for so long. Anyway, good luck and happy rodent hunting.
@@gnarlin4964 idk man isn't it just a matter of swtiching from whatever serial interface library they were using to another, if they coded the thing the sane way
I know it's water under the bridge at this point, but this channel really is the best out of all the techtubers that started like 5-8 years ago. I can't think of anyone who dares show transparency on their manufacture process like this.
forreal this channel has become the ultimate hidden gem, I wish I had irl friends that were into this stuff to share it with
@@borisyeltsin6606 wtf didn't you die of congestive heart failure in 2007?
I've wanted to try your products for years and you just gave me the perfect excuse. Great content not to mention creating well thought out, high quality products. Thanks!
Thanks for the insight into your products. I really love the passion you have for creating the perfect devices for yourself first, then selling it to everyone else knowing it's a good product.
Just ordered one of your desk mats! Good luck on the move, I just did it a couple of months ago and know how stressful it can be.
My burning earth one need a replacement, just saying, it would be cool to see it again with the burning earth
Keep making stuff. Love my desk mat!
Been enjoying my Fennek Swift for a while now, thank you sir!
Yoooo your the tiger direct guy glad your still around use to watch all the videos good stuff man
The Standard Issue is my favorite mouse. Just bought a couple more on sale, just in case the ones I have go bad on me. Also grabbed the mother Membrane and a couple of the controllers for the hell of it.
Really cool video! It's fun to see inside the factory and see how all this stuff gets made.
Wow, going to China and visit those factories is a real dream. I'm currently in a process of making my own PCB for a Mechanical Keyboard, this video inspired me more to keep working on my project. tks
This is actually really interesting! I'd upload the RGB configuration part as a short. You never know...
Very happy with my standard issue mouse. Been serving me well for years now.
Love my fenek game pad.
cant wait to get my Sen Pi... shipped!
I had that original burning earth logo one and I used it for gaming and my daily driver mouse for about six years before it started giving me double/triple clicks and the buttons started failing. Now I have the Fenek and using it the same way. They're both so smooth and so fast I feel like aiming in boomer shooters is never a problem anymore. I'm glad you share my same mentality of find something you love and use it till it dies. You should embrace the impermanence of things not resist it.
just ordered a mouse and mouse pad can't wait great discount.
would you make a special edition burning earth fenekmouse again some day? tek is the reason im into tech!
I hope you will be making some of that sweet faster dungeon synth music for me to buy.
Not sure if you have played mmos but 1-0 buttons are nice and all I look for in a mouse
I have been using the same mouse for about 12 years. I have switched out broken switches and shortened the cable once to repair an internal break. The technology has advanced so much that it's pretty much plateaued a decade ago.
Nice video! One question, man. If you didn't have the mold, how did you explain / show them what you wanted? Thanks in advance
I've had my eye on the standard issue for a while and will definitely be picking one up now! If you do anymore mice one with 3 side buttons (not sniper button) would be awesome. I've found it really useful to be able to map more functions to the mouse thumb buttons but most only have 2 side buttons or you end up with an mmo mouse that has way more than I need.
Just so you know, you can remap the sniper button if you want... You'll have to download the software though.
@@teksyndicate Good to know! Just ordered one and I can't wait for it to arrive.
Not many videos would show how products are made or even teardown.
I got my mouse from you, and I am currently watching "A Place in the Sun" using a very dusty DVD player. Thank you, old friend.
It is cool though. Always was so surprised how much new molds cost for stuff. But yeah, I definitely appreciate lower weight as a competitive Quake player, not chasing the extreme low weight, don't like hole mice design so. Went from like 90g Zowie to 70g one, good difference. Sensor wise, personally I prefer 3360 but 3310 is definitely fine. One of the best pro Quake players uses it so.
The RJN mouse is very good, definitely a certain fingertip style though. He did a mousepad too. I mean his colab with Xtrfy is neat.
What would be neat is to see companies offer magnesium shells. It's durable and quite light. Ignoring the Finalmouse nonsense way of marketing and scam price.
Can youu let us know the parts in the mice please? Looking to replace my mouse wheel on my standard issue. Thanks!
Have a mouse with optional standard shell & Spider Webbed shell with the same removable weight, covers both bases. Wouldn't be that more expensive at production end and would justify the price increase. 2 tone yellow and blue, would sell like hot cakes.
I wonder how much would it cost to make it wireless.
Is there any software for the mouse so I can change what the side buttons do?
The Standard Issue does have optional software. The Swift does not.
She's a bit on the heavy side at 110g, my glorious model d weighs 61g. Would be awesome to get a lightweight version.
I have one and it's too light for me. I prefer just taking out the weights in this one. It's about 90g then.
@@teksyndicate ah I'm personally a sucker for light mice with big skates but been looking for something more solid that I can take around places with me, the model d feels like it'll fall apart if a mosquito farted too close to it. I'll give your Swift a go as it looks very comfy and ergonomic.
@@DomeF. I got my model d that was grade b for only $20 so can't really complain. Mouse works fine but the right side is a tiny bit loose, might just use a small dab of superglue and call it a day.
i got two mouse ... the old one which I bought at 90 rs .... this one is of 10o rs .... i can feel the makings when I'm touching all part of old one which is dead by broken wire
I just want the G602 to live on 😭😭😭😭
Does anyone know if the mouse is PS/2 protocol compatible. I'm looking for a replacement that requires PS/2 protocol (it can still use the USB port) I could use the MS mouse he mentioned in the video, but I'm afraid that if I plug in an MS mouse it will undo all of reality ;-)
Looks like the same weights in an $8 mouse I bought a while back. I removed the weights.
They are kinda standard
Where are you thinking of moving?
Japan or NZ... but they aren't exactly open yet.
@@teksyndicate Japan will give you more respect. you just might have to duck more.
Logan, is it possible to make a mouse with Japanese made Omron D2F-01F switches? Switch for the scroll wheel Panasonic EVQP0E07K/EVQP0E07T etc. Mouse with Japanese parts inside
It's possible. I'm not sure why I'd do that though because I really like these switches and mine have been working well since day 1. The scroll wheel might be an upgrade though. Also, it would raise the price a lot. I won't say never, but I'm not sure if I'll make any more hardware. I don't like marketing stuff.
@@teksyndicate marry a marketing Ninja. oh, and the scroll wheel, smooth surface, I hate those off road treaded wheels designed to prevent your Jelly Donut covered fat finger from sliding off.
Hi, I love being back to being your sub. I bought a few tshirts of doomguy and was a big fan before the drama that happened back then - heck I recall when you moved to your office and u were so happy. I'd love you to make a Rage 2 tshirt as that is a game that I'm loving atm very much - I believe the ranger is pretty powerful compare to Doomguy. I advice as a former Marketing student that you focus on one of each branded product of yours and sell it in limited stock to your fans. Keep some stock and keep the production level headed and you should have a brand image with products that keep you connected with your fans.
Lastly please do consider making tshirts to do with games that come out. I propose Terminator: Resistance (my game of all time since ss2) and Rage 2 (my second best gaming experience refuting the storyline but exploration focused) - There are plenty of games coming out that you can make tshirts based on with your own flavoured inspired viewpoint and creativity mixed with it.
Love your recent videos and glad you are alive and well - I'm Christian and I love your heart.
Light weight mice aren't always as precise to me (and honestly, how heavy is a mouse unless you are THAT weak?)
You think putting a patent on firmware would help :) You were to China, you know the deal :)
if you ever make an mmo mouse with 12 side buttons for mmo's i'll be so happy, I love foxes
Curious where overseas are you planning to move?
Japan if I can get in. NZ is 2nd choice... Portugal is on the list too.
I jumped on the store and wondered "why didn't I even pick any of this stuff up?". Dropped a bunch of stuff in the cart went to checkout aaaand... Oh right, shipping to my country would cost just as much as the products themselves :(
Discount codes I've tried are no longer working! I just found this channel yesterday, did I miss the bus?!
In all seriousness, if I knew how I'd make a mouse like the Master 3 that had simple button controls that saved my default settings on the mouse so when I'm on Linux, and Piper doesn't quite work the way I want it to, I can still have my personal default. Sadly Logitech changed there software, and the gaming mice no longer save the settings to the mouse. Something like that would be perfect for me.
My old logitech G203 has onboard memory profiles it's just locked behind the g hub software.
If anything else someway, somehow, maybe one of the big companies will want to take up the fenek brand sometime and continue on with the software less nature
I've talked to a few and none seemed to care or like the brand... But who knows
"I will attack them with tanks.. and FIREBALLS!"
So are we talking tanks that shoot fireballs.. or a fireball that explodes into tanks?
Yes
make a mmo mouse!
YES the braided cable on the mouse can be so annoying....
It was the dumbest trend and they marketed it so hard we had to deal with people saying, "oh it doesn't have a braided cable. Must be low quality."
Cheap products with insane margins.
Your standard 5 dollar gaming mice has the same specs and qc
