Today's video we're riding and reviewing the 2019 Triumph Speed Twin that features the incredible Bonneville 1200 engine for the very first time.
A special thanks to Woods Motorcycles Abergele for letting me borrow the bike for the review.

Basically, 'sports mode' is just what we called 'normal throttle response' before the advent of electronics and 'ride by wire'. 'Rain' and 'road' modes are what we used to call 'running badly' and needs a service/tune up. Personally, I'd like to use my brain in conjunction with my right wrist for a 'riding mode' and have that money spent on better suspension. It's the main thing that puts me off new bikes and it isn't necessary on a bike with circa 85-90 rwhp.
I test rode this bike last week and that was my only criticism. The brakes are so good that when you give the front a good pull the bike tends to dive forward over the front forks. The bike as standard only comes with preload on the rear and non adjustable on the front so I'm looking to upgrade straight away when I buy it. At £10,700 you would think it might have had adjustable suspension but maybe that's cheeky when the rest of the bike is so damn good! When your riding, however, it does feel very planted.
I test rode this bike last week and I can confirm that it is just awesome in every department. Everyone needs to ride one or own one.......
Well done Trumiph.
Absolutely, I was shocked
Great sound quality! I can actually hear the motorcycle of the reviewer for once! Lucky you! Awesome bike! Cheers!
Thank you, luckily I have my mic set up running well.
Great to see that sports mode is great at 30mph! Holy Moly!
Looks like Triumph have nailed it again, Retro with modern road handling! Hope to try one soon!
It'll be fun
Awesome review mate! I want to start reviewing local enthusiast cars and bikes on my channel and maybe one day I can work with a dealership like you are!
Believe in it and it'll happen
I loved the street twin when I reviewed that last year (one of my favourite bikes of the year) so REALLY looking forward to reviewing a speed twin in the next few days 😎👍
It's a heck of a good bike
@@forthebold It does seem to be from what I've already read/heard. Really looking forward to getting on one soon :)
Didn't get a chance to watch the entire video yet, but great job with the sound! I hear actual exhaust note, which sounds great by the way, and not just wind noise. Well done!
Thanks. I think audio is important. One thing I forgot to do was export in mono as the mic picks up stereo on the twin pipes.
odd question. but where is your jacket and gloves from/ what are they??
Going to have a video on what I wear in the next couple of weeks.
I picked up my new Speed Twin Friday in Brisbane Queensland, rode it home ,afrer an hour the seat is so hard and my ride home was over 2 hours. My god it needs a better comfort seat. Rest of bike is fantastic.
But still, very lucky to have one. Like with triumph I’m sure there are aftermarket seats available in their stores.
@@forthebold Yes but why such a hard uncomfortable seat from new.
Nice review mate!!! with very charming atmosphere !! I’m thinking of buying this beast bike ❤️
It definitely is a brilliant bike with a heck of a lot of torque.
Great review. By the way the beach looks unreal. It’s 40 degrees here in Adelaide so yes the beach looks fantastic!!! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks. Was an amazing day considering it was still winter. I bet it’s lovely over your way.
As I understand it the rain, road and sport modes don't reduce the ultimate power , they just make you have to twist your wrist a bit more in rain mode, and less in sports mode. I think traction control is also a bit more aggressive in rain mode.
Very true. In anything but sports it just felt inresponsive limp and a bit like a wet fish.
@@forthebold I test rode one of these a month after passing my UK Mod2 bike test. First I test rode the 2019 64 BHP Street Twin, and that seemed frighteningly fast compared to my Honda CB125R, then I test rode one of these . I think I had it in Road mode. It the life out of me , but then I'd just come off a 13 BHP 125 ! So I suppose things are relative.
I'll probably get used to the power and leave it in Sports mode , but that's a while off yet.
The throttle on my CB125R wasn't even as good as a wet fish, but then that's all 125s :)
I like what they have going on with the fuel injectors. My 2016 thruxton 900 has the faux carburetors for fuel injectors and I dont care for it. I keep saying if I want the carburetor look I will get an older motorcycle that has carbs
I know a lot of people who have beef with them. They don’t bother me too much. Might look strange without them.
Thanks for this review! I rode the speed Twin last week and it was an awesome street bike!
I do like this bike - but can't afford it yet ;).!
Would like to hear your opinion on the Speed Twin and the Z900RS in comparison...
I’ll have to scout some dealers who stock them.
Nice one mate. looks like your stepping out of the regular material. Look forward to see what you think of the SE.
Yeah it’s an avenue I’ve wanted to get into and brings in extra content when there isn’t enough for a build video.
Man I miss my 1978.KZ650SR it was awesome.
I need to get down to my Triumph dealer to check out the Speed Twin and 1200 Scrambler. I’m not sure I’m ready to change my Tiger 800 yet, but you never know!
It’s worth a try. And that 1200 engine is amazing.
It's a great looking bike but when I sat on it at the London show it just felt a little low and small for my 6ft 3 frame. The tall Scrambler 1200 felt the right size for me. Got the full Hinckley factory tour tomorrow but doubt I will see these on the line, think they are made out in Thailand?
Very true, it does feel very small but I actually like that in the bike, makes it fun with it feeling so dinky.
I recently got a speed twin. What changes would you make to it to make it look meaner
Entirely up to you. With a new bike like this there’s only a handful of visual parts to change.
is tht colwyin bay your at, stayed there few times, good blog.
It is, I know those roads quite well.
How would you compare the speed twin with the BMW R ninet? Which one would you pick and why?
Yet to ride the Rninet
Great video where are you riding?
Nice Bike. love Triumph. sounds awesome!
Sure does with those Vance & Hines, they're extra though
Can we please have a parallel twin enamel mug now then 👍🏾
Sure thing
For The Bold - dreegez can’t wait to see it as a Triumph Thruxton owner you have just made your first sale 🏍👍🏾
They did it right on this one!
They did, really well, Bobber Black review next week and that was an experience.
@@forthebold Right on! Stoked to see it.
I didn't know you had Texaco stations over there. Interesting.
Yup. They’re here.
Great review can you please review the z900rs?
I second that!
Would be interesting. I don’t know any dealers with them at the mo.
@@forthebold oh, that's a pity. Thank's that you looked for one! 👍
is it possible to raise up the field of view of your GoPro?
It is but I’ve set it to the one that I like.
Okay, just wanted to know:)
Triumph da best!
They are good.
you are on a test ride you can rev it as hard as you like :-)
I don’t like to push it with these new engine as someone down the line will be an owner. I like to make sure they enjoy their bike also.
Try blipping the throttle to match your revs when changing down mate. You will live longer! Even if it does have a slipper clutch, it sounds really unprofessional to rely on it and be too lazy to match revs, like a clumsy learner. Especially if you are doing reviews.
Britishshooter unfortunately with this bike in most setting a blip of the throttle doesn’t register and nothing happens. A lot of lag and a flat spot before anything happens.
@@forthebold Must have been that particular bike, the one I test rode recently blipped freely in any of the 3 modes.
Remember he's never been on a motorcycle before it's like Fred Flintstone doing a review
"it's fun, it is really fun to ride..." after just 5 minutes of riding it in town...?
The magic of film, truth is i'd been riding it before filming.
@@forthebold aaah I see
My local Triumph dealer.
Really good dealership. I'd recommend them to anyone
rider modes for me are for people with no riding experiant pardon my spelling .
It is a hinderance. Unfortunately one mode must be selected to ride it in this case.
i have a yamaha super tenere and i found sport mode the best as it bogs down in standard but love this new triumph great video mate .
Same here with the sports mode. Seemed the most natural to what it should be
You owe it to yourself to ditch the Ducati and buy a triumph 🏍
ooohhh you don't know what's in the pipe work for the Ducati.
For The Bold - dreegez interesting 🤔
Mate, the engine performance specs are the same as the Thruxton, only difference with the engine is the cam cover is slightly lighter and a slight change to the clutch. The Speed Twin is 7kg lighter than the Thruxton mainly due to the lighter (less efficient) front forks and brakes and the wheels are slightly lighter.
It would be great if you people could get your facts right before you do these reports.
Pretty sure I did say it was the same engine but a lighter bike. As for the fork efficiency I found the set up perfect. No complaints from me.
Ride it like it or don't like it who actually gives a shite about a lighter cam cover
sorry, rhos on sea.
