love what stephen said about jess. not sleeping is hard on anyone, but when you have adhd it becomes so completely crippling in a way that’s so hard to convey. if i don’t sleep, i am functionally useless. i really hope jess gets some sleep bc the difference can be like 2 different people lol

Re: Stephen talking about how the New Era has lost a lot of the "moral component" and become a "spreadsheet game" - This is a function of the 26 day season. Two fewer weeks of bonding and with no Off Days between tribals means the relationships are necessarily much shallower, so it's easier to blindside an ally.
Bhanu's facial expressions and when Jalinsky said "I'm really worried" and Bhanu said "Don't Be" and shoved coconut in his mouth had me laughing pretty hard😂😂

About the savvy puzzle, I have solved word search puzzles in which the leftover letters spell a message/sentence. Surprised they didn't put the leftover letters together. They were definitely NOT savvy puzzlers.
My Mum and I were also a bit confused that they didn't pick up on this, like you say it's a fairly common word search gimmick.
Exactly! It’s a pretty standard solution to puzzles. Scrambling remaining letters.
I will take Stephen anytime but I really miss this being right after the show airs!

Rob you are in NC now, where Andy Griffith is from, you should be checking it out. You can even come visit where Andy Griffith is from here in Mayberry, where i'm from. Mount Airy has Andy Griffith days and has tours, you can air bnb Andy Griffith's childhood home, and you can go around town and see how the places from the show. Its a cool little place if you love the show lol.
Oh my gosh, I love the P is for Pterodactyl book.. but my husband and I only read it for laughs. We haven’t read it to our kids yet 😂 I agree with Stephen, too confusing!!
About the villains discussion, I think I agree with Stephen that it feels like some kind of force is missing. I'm not looking for people's stuff to go missing/burned or camp supplies being lost or stolen (even though that's funny to watch and unbelievable).
I believe and I could be wrong that the producers, execs, and advertisers may prefer the family-oriented landscape now during prime time. This is the era of funny, socially awkward, journeys to be better because of the past/family type of cast. I know not all castaways have been that way but those stand out as memorable for me besides the Reba 4 (though they are not mutually exclusive for the types mentioned).
Was anyone else surprised how attractive Ben was in the episode? 😂 I liked him in his pre interview but I didn’t think he’d get along with everyone as well as he seemed to & I didn’t think ooh he’s cute. They got a shot of his eyes during the episode and then I was like wow 😂 Ive always liked musicians and he def showed that kind of lead singer / lead guitar, band member charisma, in my opinion anyway 😅lol ( incase you see this hubby, don’t worry you’re the apple of my eye & heart ♥️ 😂)
What’s with the messed up audio on the theme song? I think it needs remastered.

I really liked the shaggy & Daphne reference but only because I felt like they looked like them so much especially Kenzie.
In the sweat puzzle I kept thinking why don't they put one bucket inside the other? It would block up the holes and then they could take it in turns fetching water in a full bucket.
Stephen is right about the giraffes, as a teacher, I would add the fact that virtually everything puts icecream for i even though the basic, cvc phonics sound is i like iguana. like even toys or puzzles or things that purport to be for the purpose of helping develop phonics do this. you see unicorn for u, which is also a problem, but I find ice cream the most everpresent.

Besides giving kudos for a great first KIA of the season, I would like to confirm that The Andy Griffith Show is on and poppin down in Middle GA. I moved here from Hyde Park, NY in 2000 after college and I had heard my parents reference the show and call our town Mayberry occasionally growing up. But I had never seen the show myself. Well from that year until now, it has always come on AT LEAST twice a day. I did eventually break down and watch it a time or SEVERAL and I can see why it's still a family favorite.

Also wanted to add that I was wondering why Q didn't put his foot down at tribal council about Jalensky quitting the sweat challenge. He didnt refute Jalensky saying "WE quit". Rob's exit interview with Jalensky made Q's somewhat quietness about it make more sense. From what we were shown, it looked weird for him to just sit there and really only bring up skull card gate with Dr. Maria 💜 and Tevin.

I think one thing that made it predictable that it was going to be Jalinsky was the fact that the tribe had an incentive to lose with regards to getting a clue find an idol. I thought that was foreshadowing. How often is there an incentive for a tribe to lose?
When you said deep voice, I immediately thought of the blonde guy from Survivor Philippines. I think his name is Carter.

My son and I pause the show and try to solve the puzzles before continuing. We were able to solve both puzzles (savvy and idol) in short order. I appreciate it would be different under pressure.

Welcome back! A few random thoughts I had:
1. Can we all agree to refer to this season as "Survivor: Gecko"? I love the geckos so much, and I struggle to remember which 40-something season is which in the new era.
2. This cast seems to have a handful of frontrunners (Tevin, Maria, Kenzie, Hunter, Tiffany, Soda), a few dark horses (Jem, Charlie, Venus), and then a whole bunch of players who would be very surprising winners. We're only one episode in and my initial sense is that less than half the cast are actual contenders for the win.
3. With the savvy puzzle, the moment the note read something about what's missing, I knew they'd need to look at the letters that weren't crossed out. It seemed obvious, but of course is easy to see from this side of the screen.
4. The "no more villains" rule strikes me as a way of production saying they won't intentionally make someone look like a terrible human being in order to drive viewer interest. Jeff acknowledges the actual impact that this representation can have on a person's life outside the game. And they won't cast any more unapologetic racists/sexists/homophobes just for the ratings, because this cultural moment is different from Survivor's first 20 years. As long as that's what they mean, I'm all for it. I don't think it means no more cutthroat strategists-- at least I hope!

I don’t think the savvy puzzle was that hard, I jumped on that solution immediately. Which is not to say that I’m smart and Charlie and Ben are dumb for not figuring it out, it’s just gonna depend on the individual if they consider the solution to be a possibility or not which is kinda the problem with timed puzzles, some people will take hours to figure something out and some people already think the same way as the puzzlemaker and figure it out right away. I also believe they’ve done this type of puzzle before which is why I think I had the solution in my head. I don’t remember what season it was but I think it was something where they had to do a word search of all the past winners names and then complete a phrase with the remaining letters.
I really liked all of Jelinsky's gambling references in his confessionals. That did a lot for characterizing his, especially playing on him being from Vegas and being a slot machine salesman.
Jelinsky wore Nike Dunks on the island. This was the first sign his head wasn’t in the game. Dope shoes in real life, but not on Survivor. They’re leather and not particularly comfortable. I’d imagine they don’t react well to sand and moisture.
I don't agree with Fishbach about the journey game, there isn't any point prioritizing a relationship with members of another tribe if it harms you in the short term. Having your vote in your first tribal is way more important to establish alliances. It is possible that you piss the other two people off but there's no guarantee you'll ever be back with them again.
I was out on Jelinsky when he broke glass on the beach, super uncool to the locals and the environment.

I read sumwhere..one of the Rules of Survivor, is to not Harm t Environmnt they r in. So that was intentional breaking the rules.
Jesse: holds someone else's idol, votes them out. Holds someone else's idol, plays it for an enemy, votes them out.
People: where are the villains?!?
I think we just get more well-rounded edits where we now understand people's backstory and intentions more so they can't be a one-dimensional 'villain'
Jelinski wasn't the only one on his tribe to lose a vote, at least he was honest about it.

Am I the only one that saw that the cards in the journey all had distinctly different backs? Cause the fake wood effect and paint that was at the top of the cards. Couldn't they just see what the skull was when it was flipped over, and just follow it with their eyes, and see who picks it up?

SWEAT: Instructions said to fill the urns. So, at the beginning when they are empty, drag the empty container to the water front of the shore and fill it there. The rules never said they had to walk all the way down the beach to fill them ;)
I wonder if this was discussed with producers at all. Like if they brought it up and producers said no?

They said in the episode that they had to walk a specific path to get to the urns. No shortcuts so also no moving the urns
I have to wonder if there was some trick to filling the urns, like plugging the holes in the buckets or something else, because after a couple hours it looked like they had barely filled the urns at all.

I understand his reasoning for not wanting to piss off the other 2 ppl w the card game but he should have lied to his tribe abt how he lost his vote lol I wouldn’t have told my tribe I quit & gave them a reward after already quitting the physical challenge for flint. Like come on! lol sweet guy but he lacked so much self awareness smh
Jelinsky rules. What a character.
Probst has made the show all about positivity, families, journeys, stories and inclusivity... and I have grown so tired of it. I loved villains. I loved hardships and 39 days and starvation and pain. I loved arguments and hate. I loved ugly rivalries. I loved vendettas. Probst has eliminated all of that and made a show for children about children. I have permanently moved on to the far superior Aussie Survivor -- which resembles the greatest of the original show's seasons. Longer, harder, more adult, less weepy, less luck... it is a 10/10. The American version has succumbed to Disneyfication and trashy reality TV tropes. Such a shame.
What's keeping me is Jess because I can sort of project on her. There's too much overwhelming energy in the season :-(
