    Thank the government for this. They can't sell them as a fuel can because they don't have the special valve spout on them. Everyone uses them for fuel cans anyway.

      I suspect it is due to the new EPA laws requiring the safety valves for pouring and minimizing fumes. You know the pain in the, , nozzles that don't work well for anyone!

    I agree with the other commenters that opined this is "lawyer speak" to get around the EPA regulations regarding "non-spill" fuel spouts (which have caused me to spill more fuel than I ever did with cans with a simple hose). "We're from the government and we're here to help" is the scariest sentence in the English language.

    • @91CavGT5
      @91CavGT5 3 месяца назад

      I agree 100%. I RARELY spilled any fuel until these no-spill fuel spouts came along. Leave it to the government. Their initial intentions always end up being completely opposite of the real world results. Like the war on drugs, the Patriot Act, the Affordable Healthcare Act, ect.

      Right! In all of my years of pouring fuel out of a gas can, I’ve never had any fuel spill until the first time I used a can with the government’s “no spill” dispenser on it! They are totally ridiculous and do just the opposite of what they are designed to be for. Liberalism will always generate the exact opposite of its stated intent.

    I use the VP Racing cans all the time for diesel and gas, and they work well. I think it has to do with some BS government regulations which make the gas cans (like the one you showed on the right) terrible to use. Props to VP for skirting stupid governmental regulations by posting a disclaimer that nobody reads or pays attention to.

  • @jeffs2809
    @jeffs2809 3 месяца назад +13

    It’s quite simple really, the vp racing jug has an easy to use vent and spout that aren’t sealed and might let some fuel vapors or gas accidentally leak out. While the other style, that’s approved by the epa and carb for fuel use and is a sealed container is guaranteed to spill more fuel and still blow the fuel vapor everywhere when you try to start pouring it.

    Bought one of those 'safety valve' cans a while back not realizing it was not like my older fuel can. Tried to use it to fill the gas tank in a car. Those are not designed as an emergency means of filling the cars gas tank - unless you have a gas fill opening that looks up instead of sideways. I believe I saw somewhere that we can thank California for ruining gas cans (I researched it and saw something that indicated the requirement started in California). The comments below makes sense with the regulations in mind.

  • @AkioWasRight
    @AkioWasRight 3 месяца назад +27

    It's government, as others have said. Fuels cans have to be sealed and with a "no-spill" approved nozzle.
    What's funny is I have probably spilled and wasted more fuel using the government approved designs than I do my VP fuel cans. This is what happens when government thinks it knows better.

    It’s for government purpose. I have the VP and have used them for years. But it’s the same reason why the VP high flow hose isn’t sold with it but it conveniently screws into the top where the red plug is on the vp “gas jug”. About like saying a light bar is for “off road use only”

    Kd0axs is correct. They can’t sell it as a fuel tank because of safety spout regulations. The EPA does not want you to pull off the caps of your mower and gas tank and pour it in at a fast rate because you will sooner or later spill and not clean it up, they surmise.

      There are two more issues: government-approved cans also have some kind of anti-fire baffle, and are supposed to control fumes better.

    I believe that is mostly for California's sake. Just put gasoline in it and throw the tag away...
    Just be glad you can still get that in Texas. When I search on it in California Amazon tells me "This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."
    I have to buy something that I can't even get the fuel to come out of if I want it in CA.
    Like I said, just fuel and keep going.

    Man there is thousands of these things at every dirtbike race across the country, they legally cant sell it as a fuel jug unless it has the stupid "spill proof" system the actual gas cans have. You also need to buy the hose spout kit for the VP jugs. These will last 20 years

  • @johnm7340
    @johnm7340 3 месяца назад +5

    VP fuel/fluid cans are great - just pop out top plug and put in hose for dumping. The card that comes with is a CA/EPA thing - they required a vapor capture system to be certified for fuel. Any "fuel" can you buy in Calif. has a locking system and they suck and they spill! The VP is not a legal fuel can in Calif. - yet is has far less spills and is just a better way to carry and dispense fuel. Sometime the regulations lead to designs that simply don't work and cause more spills and fumes than the old school cans like VP - that just work. You will see those disclaimers on fuel bags as well.

    Like every one else has already stated, it's because of the spout. They can't legally sell it as a fuel can because it doesn't have the safety spout on it. I picked up a 5 gallon can like that but with the approved spout and it's almost impossible to put fuel in anything.

    I have 6 of the red jugs from Buc-ees. I use them while driving Rhode Island to Nashville, and Nashville to Rhode Island around 5 times a year. As you know fuel prices are high. On the route I take I’ve seen regular gas as high as $4.50 a gallon. My truck has a 36gallon fuel tank. I fill my tank at the Buc-ees in Crossville, TN. @ around $2.90 a gallon, and I fill the 6 jugs. That gives me enough fuel for the entire trip so I can avoid the high fuel prices. I just pull into a rest area and fuel. Incidentally I purchased a small liquid transfer pump from harbor freight it uses 2 d batteries, and a small folding stool I put the jug on the stool and use the pump to transfer the fuel so I don’t have to hold the jug. The pump only reaches 4 gallons but I’m sure you’ll agree having to lift that last gallon and dump it manually is nothing.
    But I’ve had the jugs for just over 2 years and I have had zero issues with them.

    I think is of California registration. I grew up racing motocross and riding offroad. These are extremely common. I beleive this is to be able to sell in California. Thats what we were told at the dealership when they started putting up signs " not for fuel". Some people were even ticketed for using them for fuel. Eventually they stopped ticketing. I've owned several over the years. I still have one that I've owned since 2006. It sat for about 10 years, just started using it again now that we live full-time in a toy hauler. Only issue I ever had was the vent cap cracked, and the rubber hose dry rotted. still use it to haul fuel every day , never had to replace one due to wear or failure

    I use vp racing jugs and have for a good 10+ years it seems.. now I can't speak on behalf of amazon and its so called products found online on places like Amazon, but I got mine from local motorcycle and dyno tuning shops that sell vp racing fuels and products such as the fuel jugs and I don't see or have heard of not putting gasoline in them because that's what they were crated for because you have to have a container to buy the fuel by the gallon from the local shops because most carry different race blends which is a big factor when it comes to the cost per gallon so the jugs were created for us customers to buy our certain blend like I run vp110 or vp118 octanes in my 2 stroke dirtbikes with ther racing big bore & stroker kits in them cuz that's what they designed and tuned to run off of along with some classic 2 stroke oil I love the smell of the classic 2 stroke oils like ex: Bel-Ray

    Like others have said it’s because of the “wonderful” EPA.
    If you want to save a little money Rural King sells a 5 gallon jug that is very similar to this for around $20ish. They come in all different colors too. I have four of them. Use them for my race car and keep methanol in them. I’ve had them for four years. No issues. They also said “not for fuel” lol.
    Tractor Supply sells pretty good EPA compliant gas cans if you want something that is compliant. They are pretty expensive in my opinion for a plastic fuel can but they work great and are very easy to use. They come in 2.5 and 5 gallon versions. I got a few of those too and have had them for a few years. They have held up good.

    The LC2 jugs are far superior to the vp jugs. It’s to easy to spill out of the vents on the vp jug.

    Yep. If it was labeled as a fuel can, it would have to get a valve like your can on the right. Government overreach.

    I hate those new spouts. Lots of times I just pour from the can using funnel.

    Not to sound uninformed, but my kid has competed in Motocross for years. We probably have 25 VP “fuel holders” and the only issue with the “VP fuel holder”(gas can) is the add on tubing that is usually purchased with these gas cans. Within a short period of time, the tube, filter, cap becomes brittle. Ok, one more small complaint, they get heavy with very expensive race fuel, five gallons is over one hundred dollars. Most MX people just buy the metal cans from VP. By the way, we only buy clear fuel containers. Yes they stain but better than not seeing how much is left. I appreciate your video’s.

    Anytime someone tells me something they claim has to be true because some government agency said so, i remind them how much they screwed up fuel containers.
    Fyi i use vp cans and others with no issues, the warning is simply down to goverment overregulation, the cans are generally safer than the officially classed "Fuel Can".

    That’s a lawyer tag. Throw the tag away and go fill the can with gas.

    Sometimes its best not to ask. 😂
    As many have already said, much better for not dumping fuel everywhere when using a California compliant fuel jug.

    I have an old Blitz can with a non government rated nozzle. I don’t spill a drop except if I accidentally over fill my lawn mower tank

    Look for the sunoco brand from performance bodies. Same jug as the terra jug

    Surecan 5 gallon Type II. Much better IMO to use than the VP style container. Super easy to fill and control fuel delivery.

    Just take the cap off of your jug and use a large steel funnel to fill up the mowers .

    I think they are using the disclaimer to cover their a**. Have you considered a bulk tank for your gas needs? I know AM-Tank makes 55 gallon plastic tanks for gas. I have the Vevor version for off road diesel. I hate 5 gallon cans since I use a lot of off road diesel in the excavator. The government adding these antispill nozzles made the modern gas can absolutely terrible. The aftermarket pour spouts are just meh.

    You need to read between the lines. It is a California compliance thing. Of course it holds gas. I have 4 of them and use it as such.

    It’s because it’s vented. Blitz got sued into oblivion and it was because of the vents and gas vapor leaking.

    They are not all listed as Fuel anything. They are not a portable fuel container as described by ASTM, EPA, ARB and other official agencies. Just checked the amazon listing and it doesn't say fuel anywhere. It may be in the amazon "gas can" category, but that is it. The history blurb is about VP fuels, not the jug.
