Been saying for a while that if the PL really wanted to stop clubs from liquidating, they'd implement a rule where the owners would have to have an emergency pot
If the PL still won't allow for this, then they're lying and want to keep the current status quo

Which ever way it goes, could the premier league not just change the rules again to suit their agenda?

14 clubs can vote to change the rules, the top 6 cartel can be broken if the others stand together but they won't.

I hope they win as all they did was say they had sponsors from companies that the owner owns and put in huge amounts of money, so why can’t we invest in our club , we aren’t running up debt it would be investing , Man U has over a billion in debt and can spend , when does any other business get told you can’t invest into your own company, it’s shocking, I truly hope they win , if they loose they can appeal strait away and this can go on for years

I've thought about this quite a bit and I believe the only solution to make up for us and other teams having to sell the likes of Minteh and Anderson while City sit on a pile of worldclass players that they've accumulated by breaking the rules is: Give them a reasonable wage cap on all new contracts going forward - this means they will naturally start to lose talent through expiration and it'll be a more competitive transfer market for the other teams that can match the wages. Because lets face it, if they go down and another team win the league, its always going to be tainted with comments like "well they only won because city were demoted", and city will be back up ASAP anyway. The problem is their team is already stacked beyond belief - they don't need to spend much each season to maintain the quality.

Behind closed doors, and little while away for an outcome... wouldn't be surprised if it's kept behind closed doors with no change for everyone else whilst City get a fine... the Cartel will protect themselves regardless!!

Been saying similar for ages. Why can’t the owners spend their money? This is what we want to happen. I for one hope city don’t get sanctions. It opens the door for others, including Newcastle as the precedent is now set and Newcastle can reliably refer to established case studies when we start splashing cash

The premier league have their favourites. Remember none of the clubs who tried to run away and form a superleague were punished. It's one rule for Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, etc. another rule for everyone else.

Fully agree Chris , every fan outside the cartel should be hoping city win case. The 😢owners have transformed the area around Manchester. I was glad when villa got too 4. For too kind the cartel 6 has the top 4 guaranteed, they don't like other teams breaking into it. Man utd are 650 million in debt but have spent more than man city ,

I think I will wait and see the outcome before passing view specifically on this case,, but personally overall I have had enough of all policies holding back English football and if we are ever to progress or even remain as a top tier club football nation then the PL need to start getting on board and let owners invest or wealthy investors will be going elsewhere leaving Football in this nation being the non-beneficiary and unable to attract elite foreign players and unable to keep English talent in this country. All the best.

My only worry is that, even if City get away with a slap on the wrist, we are trying so hard to play nice that we'll still just abide by the rules and not spend while increasing prices for everything at the club and Stack

You must be psychic! I was just saying the same thing to my mate on the phone 20 minutes ago. I too admire and love Man City - especially when they spread Manure all over the pitch. The PL have shot themselves in the foot and perhaps even heralded the end of the two hated sets of initials. We - as our owners said when we were taken over - will never buy huge international marquee superstars as it would go against our culture. But to finally have the shackles removed and to be free to build a team to finally realise our potential would be like a gift fro black and white heaven!

  • @iananderson2677

Hi Chris. For me the difference is that Man City have not just broken the rules, they have broken the law. That is why the case has taken so long to come to being heard. If the directors have done some of the things they have been accused of (paying people off the books for example) that is illegal and they could be banned from being directors. It also impacts their accountants, whichever accountancy firm oversaw their books and ratified them could be in deep shit. I disagree that is Man City win it opens the doors for us to spend, the rules and points penalties are still there and you can guarantee if we break the rules (not the law) they will throw the book at us and we would have no recompense in law as we signed up to the rules. Remember that the Premier League is the clubs that are in it, so if City win and decide to sue the PL, it is us (and the other clubs, and indeed themselves, they are sueing) the hierarchy of the PL are just the management group for the clubs. Sorry for the rant a bit long I know, must have been watching too many of your programmes mate.

If they had been breaking the law that would have had to be investigated before this EPL kangaroo court so your point doesn’t really hold water as they haven’t any evidence of what you say otherwise HMRC/inland Revenue would have had them in.
