For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. ~Leonardo da Vinci
Success of a good aircraft, apart from performance and dependability, depends on price and product support. I hope Honda aircraft company can ensure this target for success of this great aircraft!!
Give her a break. Her husband told her they were getting a new jet... She was expecting a G550/650 Citation X or something similar. I mean, times are hard. Now she's stuck in a tiny Honda and have to look at her husband while flying.
Honda is trying to make an extremely economical business jet. It'll be a long road to become an aviation power considering most aircraft will fly for decades. Including jets. Bring us some small piston aircraft at a good price and try to take Cessna's spot at "cheap" GA
I don't understand why Honda thought that the world needed another biz jet, what the world really needs is a decent piston engine for light aircraft, and Honda is very good at making piston engines.
idontcare80 the GA world still uses comm technology from the 40s and the engines still burn lead. They are obviously in no rush to catch up with the rest of the world beyond allowing iPads on board with ForeFlight.
Distance, speed, height are some of the advantages that a turbojet has over prop. If one wants to achieve faster speeds and higher heights with prop, one goes to turboprop. Turboprops can be quite complex compared to the turbojet. Gears add to the complexity. Props are ideal for short hops, but coast to coast... no. You have to take into account propeller tips reaching supersonic speeds ... extremely loud and inefficient.
I'm aware of the differences between jets and propeller driven aircraft, and I'm not saying that Honda should have tried to make an aircraft with a piston engine that performs the way that this jet does, I'm saying that Honda already has everything necessary to build piston engines for light aircraft, so I don't understand why they're not building them. There are already people making use of Honda automotive engines in aircraft fairly successfully, but purpose built aircraft engines would offer very significant performance improvements.
Like I said, I don't understand why Honda thought that it was a good idea to add yet another jet engine/aircraft to the market when piston engines desperately need to be modernized.
I know nothing about aviation so why is planes maximum speed at 31k feet. I heard Tim Frazier say max flight of 430 and max speed at 310. Is air its least dense at this altitude?
I am not sure you realize how expensive it is to build a reliable private jet. I am new to aviation but that's a great deal for what you get and this planes range. Its not meant to fly international, its a nice local private plane and can fly me from Atlanta to NY easily.
I consider that Honda needs to improve the performance of this aircraft like the Phenom 100 or Citation M2. 4,000ft of take off distance is too much for a "Very Light Jet", even the Sovereign uses only 3500 ft for take off. I don't consider the Honda Jet a good and direct competitor if the customers look for a good performance and they want to operate on airports with a short runway.
So not putting indicator lights on the ap panel is a feature. I guess making the panel settings instantly recognizable to 99% of the worlds pilots is a bad idea. For the most modern design in jet aircraft I also notice you still need to be an olympic high jumper to get over the console and into the seats. A little short on range for this class, the M2 sees 1550 nm and has leg room along the console to get in the cockpit seats. The Hondjets takeoff and landing distances are pretty sorry too.
Nobody cares. Stop nocking things people spent years and millions or even billions of dollars developing. Have you designed a fucking jet? Also, it is Honda's first jet. What do you fucking expect.
>So not putting indicator lights on the ap panel is a feature. Yes because in ALL other jets, pilots mistakenly rely on the panel lights to tell them what mode they have selected or what mode they are in. ONLY the Mode Annunciator Panel above the attitude indicator CORRECTLY tells you what you have selected. This is a good safety design feature. I've been a jet pilot instructor for 20 years and I've seen many pilots incorrectly rely on the lights on the auto pilot panel to tell them what mode they have selected...only to be wrong...so this feature is a big deal if you are a pilot. If you're not a pilot then it will pass right over your head.
Ok, history buffs, here's one for you. In the early 70's a man named Edward Demming came up to what is now called Quality at every step, or Statistical Process Control. Now, a standard of the industry. Sigma 7. He took his analysis to the big 3 Detroit, Ford, GM, and Chrysler. They told him to get out,, we design for intended wear to be shot by the time the loan is clear, then buy another vehicle. He then took his idea to a small motorcycle company in Japan. The rest is history, and Detroit is a wasteland.
Any jet made with LMI parts should be subjected to extra scrutiny. LMI has been producing substandard pylons for quite some time. Buyers check your pylon S/N anything that says LMI S/N XXXXXXX reject the airframe.
This Jet is good in all aspects except the choice of the Engine. The Engine burns too much fuel and for a personal Jet, or charter Business, its not a good choice. If there was a way to changing the Engine to match Light Jet category, or if there were different Engines from which to choose from, it would offer a better choice of a Light Jet. But as it is, it appears to be cheap on purchase but the cost of running it is much higher.
Gasinduced Bird spiral? those spirals were created so that the ground staff has situational awareness when the engine is spinning. since the engine is mounted on top of the wing and is not instantly accessible because of how it's mounted, it is not necessary to put a spiral on the inlet cone.
Mickey Bitsko the point is New York to Chicago and back on a tank of fuel you moron? what do you want to micro jet that carries for people to fly around the world 35 times or something?
Gotta love those submarine-hatch--like windshields. Great for outside view and general awareness...not! Single point, over wing fueling is actually quite convenient. Prist is not required thanks to the fuel/oil heat exchanger, but may be used if desired.
