I hope they'll take that option for that extra 14. Then the 400's may come back to Minneapolis.

I think this is the first of 14 747-8F's that UPS has ordered. I don't know if it is true, but I read somewhere that Boeing has stopped taking orders for 747 8i s (passenger version). Do you know if this is true? I think Boeing is looking forward to killing the 747-8 altogether after they build two Air Force One's and the 14 UPS aircraft. I wonder what Lufthansa's experience has been in operating the 19 747-8i's in its fleet. These UPS aircraft will look good in their livery, IMO.

It's the first one that has taken to the air, but you're correct I don't believe it's the first to of been pulled out of the factory as there's a fully painted one that's been sitting around for a few weeks now. There's currently zero 748i's on order that I know of and can't say much else about the program. Hope it'll be around for years to come..

Thanks for the info. I'll bet UPS got a good deal for 14 of these.

yeah. no more passenger versions are being made. unless some one wants to say. order like 30 of them... but they are off the order books. to bad.. :( love these sexy birds

Boeing had already notified the SEC that they were ending the production of the 747 family. *THEN*, they got together with UPS ..... gave UPS a HUGE discount on the 14 planes, with an option on another 14 (currently rumored to be the 777F). This deal accomplished a couple of things - UPS got some badly needed planes at a great price, and it allowed Boeing to keep the 747 production line open - in anticipation of the new planes to be built for Air Force One(s). Its just too bad that these new birds will hardly EVER see use in the continental US as UPS plans to use them on the Anchorage/Asia/Europe runs. However, that will free up some of the 747-4s for "domestic" use.
As a side note, Quatar Airways just ordered 2 of the 747-8Fs for themselves

The trademark spoils it. Make it smaller if possible.

UPS have the best job compared to airliner guys who have to deal with moronic passengers
Also, no other US airlines operate 747 8s
