@@green_willowtree not just for hot beverages, any time you want hot water esecially for cooking, much faster than boiling on the stove. Essential for dishes in houses with modern hot water systems that wont give water hotter than 50 degrees.
@@green_willowtree legally the system has to be hot enough to not breed nasties but then it must pass through a mixer to bring it down to a "safe" temperature. Its super inefficient and annoying. Plus our kitchen is not super close to the hot water system so it's such a waste to pull through several liters of cold first then loose several liters of hot in the pipes after.
I’m in the UK every household here will have a “kettle” as we drink a lot of tea (tea bags) and mainly instant coffee. So cute to see lots of the USA bloggers discovering our kettles 😁😁😁
They have been around forever, my grandma always has had one. A lot of people are just starting to use them though. Tea there is more like coffee here 😀
That’s true I had one when I used to live in Ireland and so did all the people I know. We have them here in the US. However, you’re more likely to see a coffee maker than a kettle.
I have a hint I used when my sons lived at home. when I bought large amounts of ground meat. I would cook 5-10 pounds at a time, drain it and freeze it in freezer bags...you take it out and break off as much as you need. It can be warmed in the microwave or stove top. Good for taco or burritos ....chili or meat sauce for spaghetti, soup or casseroles. It saves time cooking and clean up.
Yeah, tea isn't as popular over here, but generally, the big fancy coffee machines most people have here will make hot water as well so that's what I'll end up using if I need hot water.
I was about to say that, no I'm not from the UK, but my neighbor is, her family was visiting and her sister told me how great they work, I went out the next day, and got one, I love it. We used it when she came for tea the next day lol
When my Mom made stuffed peppers, we stuffed them raw. While baking they become softer and hold their shape. You can also use the same filling to make stuffed cabbage. I learned this last one from my mother in law, it is delicious. You can also add some ground Italian sausage for more flavor..
I stuff mine raw also! I think they hold their shape better and don't dry out. A tip to help your peppers soften nicely is to pour tomato juice in your baking dish to surround the peppers before baking. It also adds great flavor! Yummo!!!
Raw here too. I've never heard of par boiling them but I. Guess it does cut down on baking time. And same for stuffed cabbage, tho I've never made that. I think you're family would like stuffed cabbage Sarah or a variation of, maybe as a casserole. Anyway I know that's a great job done for your week, you'll find something else to fill you're time, I'm sure. Thanks for the repose in the middle of isolation. ☀️❤️👍
I never boil my peppers, we just stuff them and bake. They turn out wonderfully. We do lots of different kinds, too( taco, philly steak,Asian, Italian, etc). They do well to stuff and freeze too. ,
I have been watching you guys now over a month! Trying to catch up with all the videos! I just Love watching and sharing with my family! Family of 12! GOD IS AMAZING!
Tori is funny about having a big dinner with all the food laid out! You have a nice family. I really enjoy watching you and Solo cooking, the kids helping too. Sarah you are funny! I love to hear you speaking of everyday activities going on
Seriously, I was so happy to see your video! I feel like I need something that gives me peace. And, you always provide that!! Thank you sooo much!!! Stay safe & healthy!! ❤️🙏🏼😷
for the stuffed peppers my family makes the filling raw, meat, rice, onion, herbs, salt and seasoning we leave the peppers raw also we stuff them and then we put them in a pot with tomato sauce and a splash of water and put it in the oven. It's faster this way and all the flavours are mixing together. Regarding the kettle, I use it to boil water for pasta, soup, vegetables, anything can be made quickly if you boot the weather in the kettle and then begin your process. :)
You two are so cute. 🥰 I’m clearly very invested in your channel because when you said you were out of cauliflower rice, I was like - no... I thought you just bought a big bag of it at Sam’s the other day (from watching that video) lol. So when you said that afterwards, I was like - ok, yeah... I’m very invested in your channel 😂
Hi Sarah, I’m loving your videos! I just found you guys this week and you’re just lovely! My go to meal (we’re vegan) is red lentil dahl with baby spinach served with basmati rice. It’s so quick I that I often make it in the mornings before I leave for work! I’d highly recommend it. Lentils go a long way and are super good for you. Love Arlene(London England) xx
I started watching your channel over a year ago and I enjoy it so much! My mom it's 75 years old and she's bed bound so I told her about you guys, now she's a regular viewer! Thanks for such a great channel!
I love using my ground beef to make easy "korean" style beef bowls. Super easy. Ground beef, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, gochujang, and rice vinegar. Delish
I've made something similiar... try adding some freshly chopped green onions as a topping (IF you like them); the crunch factor AND uncooked veggie addition is a perfect compliment!!
My Granma always cooked tomatoes in her cast iron and so do I. We never left the food in the pan, just took it out and washed right away. Never with soap, just hot water and dry right away. If it needed scrubbing she used salt.
Cast iron utensils re commonly used in India and its said that food made in them is full of iron and can cure it's deficiency in kids ,infact doctors recommend boiling milk into an iron pot so that when kids drink this milk ,iron is naturally benefit their health..
Wow, your a busy Mom. The once a month food prep really comes in handy. Search OAMC on goggle. We made up a bunch of meals before my daughter had baby number three. It makes life so much easier for the first month or two. I also had a ministry where we made up freezer meals for people who were ill. We tailored the meals to their nutritional needs. Such as dietetic, gout, cancer or vegetarian. I would like to get back to doing this again, it was so fulfilling.
@@joytoyouandme4593 make sure to type Oamc meals otherwise it doesn't come up just a bunch of stuff about clothes. Thank you! I searched it after I read your comment checking it out now 😀
Thank you! Great tips this labor threw a curb ball at me had preeclampsia. So happy God was with me through it all! It was seriously a miracle considering how irregular the labor was with magnesium. That freezer meals ministry sounds like a blessing :)
Sarah, thanks for sharing about the electric kettle, been married 26 years and never had one, now I want one I think U, Solo, and ur children are just awesome Thanks for sharing ur lives with us
Lol we also use a kettle everyday in Australia, in my house it gets used about 10-15 times a day 😂... i love the way you and Solo thanked each other in kitchen, super sweet.
Every house in the UK has a kettle. I don’t think I’ve ever been to any house that doesn’t have one because the first thing you’re asked when you go to someone’s house is doing you want a cup of tea’ haha xx
In the states people drink coffee (Americano) alot. Usually offer it when they have company over. We of course drink tea here but not like there. Definitely not enough.
@@medical4652 wow salty much? No not every house in America has one. I believe most actually do not. If you are here to be negative and rude why bother watching much less commenting?
You are all absolutely amazing!! A quick go-to meal we always do is black beans, salsa and corn burritos. We throw it all in a pot, heat it up, add some chili powder, garlic salt, etc. Put it in burrito wraps 🌯 with some shredded cheddar cheese that will melt. Then we serve it with sour cream and black olives. Goya yellow rice is great with it too. No meat needed, but ground beef could be added. We always have the ingredients in our pantry!!
I love all of your vlogs 🥰 No matter what you post, it somehow lessens my anxiety and I am so thankful for that and being able to follow your family's journey ❤ Great cooking and recipe ideas as well 😉
I've had an electric kettle since my college days in the 80's! When my kids were young, a quick and easy meal would be boiled or fried hot dogs with mac 'n' cheese and raw veggies. Now that we're almost empty nester's, only one child at home a quick meal is chili or rivel soup or pasta alfredo with some sort of meat included and a salad on the side.
Julia Organtini I am an empty nester. I went from feeding a large family to feeding 2. I still cook like this, but we freeze meals and refrigerate what we will use right away. It makes dinner easy throughout the week and we have two “cooking “ days a week if we want something different.
Sarah, the reason you probably heard not to cook tomatoes in cast iron is because if your pan is not well "seasoned", the acid from the tomatoes reacts with the metal and can cause some of the iron to leach out into the food. The health risk of that is extremely low, but it can cause the food to have a slight metallic taste.
I love the way you and your husband interact with racy other, as well as sharing and preparing the meals. Not mention the groceries..God BLESS your family..
Brocolli and green beans have never looked or sounded so tasty till I watched this. I am definitely going to be making some roasted. I only discovered your channel yesterday and am loving you and your beautiful family as I binge watch ^_^. Love all the names of your children. God bless you all.
I guess that the "not to cook tomatoes in cast iron rule" is about the acid, it can transfer the metal to the food. Its the same for every acid food, wine, sauces, etc.
It's ok to cook tomatoes in a cast iron pan. You will just need to make sure that the pan gets a light coating of oil after you wash it ( I use bacon grease ).
Sarah....I recently found this out...if a pepper has 3 bumps on the bottom then it's male and best for cooking. If it has 4 bumps on the end then it's female and best for eating raw. If you have ever thought that your pepper just wasn't as tender or crisp as you would like then likely you were using the wrong one for the wrong thing. Crazy huh?
@@vickihill4777 that's a great idea. I use all of those things, but make sure to not let them be in the pan for too long. But the bacon grease sounds awesome.
Aww you have a beautiful family guys. I used to find when my children were young and at home that it was much better to prepare as much as possible for the week, sometimes they would all want different food so about twice a month I let them pick their own meals for dinner and it was a bit crazy all having different but we did and we still all sat together at the table. Thank you for still vlogging at this crazy time I always look forward to your videos and Iove seeing the kiddos they are so cute bless them. Stay safe guys.xxx
Im from New Orleans so our go to quick and easy meals are: Red Beans and Rice w/smoked sausage or Navy Beans and Rice w/ ham - we will use the Blue Runners brand which I believe is local (maybe not) but its Cajun and its the ONLY canned beans that we have ever used that are good. The same brand has a gumbo base and we use that too for a quick and easy 1 pot meal. Making these meals from scratch is easy too but with soaking the beans and letting them soften it can be an all day affair.
Sarah .. Old Fashion Stuffed Peppers ... in mix bowl add ground beef, 1 or 2 eggs depending on how much ground beef , ketchup , mustard , onion powder, Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper to taste , Rice , and you will have to Eye ball this , but one or so sleeves of crushed Ritz( always Ritz crackers) mix together till meat is not really wet ... Stuff into peppers and I pour Spaghetti Sauce but you can use Tomato Sauce 28 oz can with approx 1 teaspoon of brown sugar ... bake in the over or even in the slow cooker @ 375 till peppers are tender approx 1 hour or so and in slow cooker 4 to 6 hours ... If you try it enjoy ...
Love how your children have such broad pallets. I raised mine that way too because I remembered what it was like to be picky and meal times weren’t always pleasant for me.

So nice to see a couple cooking together in the kitchen, my husband and I cook together and we’re always surprised by how many families don’t do this. It’s a great way to spend quality time together
My husband has named the kettle "Marge". Our go to is usually soft tacos or some kind of grilled sandwiches. Y'all work so well together. 👐 Be safe. Be happy.
You both are very awesome team work. Beautiful family may God Bless you and your family I love your videos. Very helpful for me and my family. Thank you
We love curry too. One of our favorite curries is “curried sausages” all I do I’d fry up some bratwurst sausages and once cooled chop into 1 inch pieces. Next I cut up a large onion and garlic and fry up in a big put with some oil, once half softened I add curry powder and cook for a couple of minutes then add flour and stir to combine. Then I add some a couple of cups of stock and the cooked sausage to the pan. Boil and simmer for about 15 minutes, then stir in a bag of frozen peas cook a few more minutes and serve over rice.
@@OurTribeofMany basically anything that you use hot water for we use the kettle for as we dont always get hot water from our kitchen tap / fosset. Not all of us have a fancy instant hot water tap / fossett.
I'm from a large family also, 13 children. We were farmers and grew and/or raised most of our food. It was a lot of work, but it established a good work ethic in all of us. We also sewed most of the clothes for the girls and shirts for the boys. We didn't have much money but we never went hungry. Butchering animals was the worst for me, but we had 3 large freezers to store our meat, and frozen fruits & vegetables. We also canned a a lot of fruits, vegetables, jams & jelly from the orchard. The large dinner table brought back a lot of memories. I just came across your video, and can't seem to stop watching. I have your videos on while I'm cooking and cleaning. It's taking a lot longer to get things done because I keep stopping to watch and not focus on what I wanted to get done today. Beautiful family.
I'm in Canada and always grew up with a kettle of some sort in the house. It's a staple in all homes for tea and coffee and also instant oatmeal and the university cup of soup ;) love your vlogs and especially when u kibitz altogether...such a richly blessed tribe! 💗💗💗
There's one more thing you should know: it's a bad idea to cook tomato sauce, or any other super acidic food, in cast iron. As someone that lives in Australia it was kind of weird when you were explaining about the kettle like it was something different 😄 a kettle is a kitchen staple here ❤
It seems really funny listening to you talk about the kettle for boiling water like it’s a new invention when here in the uk it’s our main way to produce hot water for tea’s coffee’s hot chocolate etc and even gravy with the granules 😂, I love seeing how differently we live from country to country x
So glad I decided to watch this. Fabulous. Hope your energy levels last you a lifetime. You wore me out just watching you guys. Lovely food. Thank you.
As a US Citizen with roots in England & Canada, I adorn & have had an Electric Kettle for over 50 yrs. for making Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, heating water for canned soup, canning lids, sterilizing Baby Nips & Pacifiers and other quick hot water tasks in the kitchen.
Both you and Solo do such a great job preparing meals. It helps immensely and adds to your success that you have about three Instapots and that your children eat many different things. I suspect that they don't often have the option of saying they don't like something. Too many other people to consider. I never got away with it. Neither did my daughter.
Our go to meal is sausage & eggs. We buy the "Jones Fully Cooked Sausage Links" at Costco, they are SO GOOD, and with a side of scrambled eggs. It's a very filling meal, and keto friendly. We love breakfast for dinner! ❤
Interesting that she’s saying that the kettle is something “unusual”, because as an American, I own two & I know many people who use them at home. They’re in stores, often on wedding registries, and I see HomeGoods carry beautiful ones all the time
Guess it depends? We have always had a kettle, because we make coffee with a French press, we use the kettle to boil the water. I guess most of us Americans use a coffee\tea maker? We occasionally make tea, too....so....the kettle is better than heating water in the microwave to me, why, I dunno. I’m old, perhaps that’s why. I’ve never had an electric kettle, though. I just use our stovetop.
Yep that's how I make mine too. We also don't put rice or tomato sauce but instead add bread crumbs and seasoning with more onions and peppers. I will be trying it this way though to see if my family will like it.
Nice! We also stuff ours sometimes with a mixture of meat, beans, corn, seasoning, salsa, and top with a Mexican or cheddar cheese. Like a taco stuffed pepper! Great with sour cream!!!
I was surfing through your old videos and found the one for Butter Chicken! For once, I had all the ingredients and decided to make it. I live with my nieces, who are mostly meat & potato eaters and don't want anything new. However, they love the Butter Chicken; we have made it three times during the past 10 days. It is so good and so easy to make. Thanks!!

My go to meal and there are two of us, my husband and myself., is......Tator Tot Casserole! Got mine from the Duggars Tator Tot Casserole recipe! It's just so darn delicious! and sure to please anyone! Thanks for sharing your busy food prep!
I’ve never seen someone with one that ppl actually use. I’ve seen some for decoration kind of. I guess we aren’t cultured enough lol in Texas we drink sweet tea!
There are two go to meals that my mom always made for us on a low income budget. And one my Aunt Janice taught me to makethat is quick and easy and is very similar to one of my mom's meals. Mom's go to Meals: 1.) Ground hamburger beef browned to almost done. Then you take a big pottake cream of mushroom soup and poured in the pot put the ground beef in the pot to finish cooking. (Now we normally drain the fat off of the ground beef. Some of my family don't drain off the fat. So it all depends on your preference.) Then you make mashed potatoesand one thing my family does with the mashed potatoes instead of just using milk we use 90% milk and we put a dash of cream cheese in them to make them a little richer flavor. Then do you place the mashed potatoes on the plate or the cream of mushroom and hamburger meat over top.then if you like banana peppers/peppercinis you can put up some on the top with salt and pepper to taste. Now it is all put the seasonings you prefer on it so it's season to taste. 2.) Grilled chicken to be about 90% done.then get a large pot put multiple cans of cream of mushroom soup in it.then take the chicken that is 90% done put it in the cream of mushroom soup for about 10 to 15 minutes to finish or until chicken is done. Then you boil some rice your preference on the rice.then you played it by taking and putting rice on the plate then put the cream of mushroom soup, chicken, extra mushrooms and put on top of the rice. Then salt and pepper to taste and you're ready to eat. Aunt Janice's go to meal: 1.) Is grill some chicken in a pan to its 90% done. Then take a giant casserole dish poured in the chicken gravy into the casserole dish(now my husband adds a little Tony chachere and a dash seasoning salt. Again it's all to you or seasoning preference) . Then take the 90% done chicken place it in casserole dish. Then put it in the at 325° oven for about 10-15 minutes or until done. (or you can cook it on a saucepan on top of the stove for the same amount of time it just doesn't give the gravy that kind of Browning on the top that adds a little bit of flavoring to it.) Now while the chicken is cooking you then make some rice again it your preference of rice. Then place the rice on the plate put some chicken and gravy on the top. We normally take white bread and put it on the table to soak up the gravy. An you can eat it with white bread, Italian bread, wheat bread, or whatever bread you want (again it's your preference)eat with to soak up the gravy with. No we do I add vegetables with every meal. Now it all depends on what's in the freezer and what each person will eat in vegetables and what is quickest to make. Especially if it is a day that we've got to get stuff done quickly. All honesty these meals only take maximum 30 minutes to make. Now that's only if your hamburger or chicken or frozen! If they are fresh it takes less time. That's why I said 10 to 15 minutes depending on if your chickens Frozen or fresh is always going to take less time. You can also make this for one person or thirty people it's just a matter of how much you cook. You can pretty much add as many cans or as much chicken or hamburger as you want to eat to make for this recipe. An now we used to make it for 5 people and my mom would take three gigantic cans of cream of mushroom soup a bag of Frozen chicken breast and defrost them in a skillet and then when they were majority of the way cooked throw. Them into the cream of mushroom soup and then leave it all in the pot with the lid on it to cook until it was done. My husband has also made it for just me where he takes one can of cream of mushroom soup 2 chicken tenders and just make me a quarter cup of rice. You can also do that with the chicken gravy and the cream of mushroom soup meal. It's just a matter of however many you're making up for you just buy as much as you think will feed your family and go from there. Now you can also do this in the Crock-Pot or pressure cooker if you want. An if you don't have 10 to 15 minutes or you don't have the 30 minutes like if you need this by a specific time and you've got 5 minutes before you have to be back out the door you can pre-make this and reheat it it is still just as good. If any one what to make this and have any questions please feel to ask me. I hope everybody has a wonderful week.please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes I may have made. I have dyslexia. An I know I'm not the greatest spelling or grammar or punctuation for that matter. Thanks for understanding and everyone stay safe.
Tacos and spaghetti are our quick go to dinners as well. Tater tot casserole is another one we tend to make. My family typically has ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, tater tots, and shredded cheese in the house so besides for cooking up the meat, it just takes however long it takes to cook the tots....thank you for keeping us occupied during the quarantine. Most people say they are "stuck in the house" but I don't know, it's been kind of nice to have everyone together. I hope everyone is staying safe and holding their family just a little bit tighter (so to speak) during these trying times.
I hope you get to read this! I've been following for a while. I saw an old video where you cooked lamb. Just wanted to let you know if you soak your lamb in milk for 10 minutes, the smell disappears off the lamb. Squeezing lime after the milk bath also helps as well. We dice the kielbasa up (or even a summer sausage) and cook it up with baked beans. We doctor it up with extra bbq sauce. And, of course, mac and cheese.
curly6509 we usually dice up the kielbasa and sauté it for a few minutes and then add it to our mac and cheese. With baked beans on the side along with a green veggie.
I do diced up kielbasa or smoked sausage whichever I have, chopped bacon, diced onions & peppers, add in some shredded cabbage & diced potatoes....1 pan complete meal

You took the words right out of my mouth, exactly how I feel.
for the stuffed peppers my family makes the filling raw, meat, rice, onion, herbs, salt and seasoning we leave the peppers raw also we stuff them and then we put them in a pot with tomato sauce and a splash of water and put it in the oven. It's faster this way and all the flavours are mixing together.
Regarding the kettle, I use it to boil water for pasta, soup, vegetables, anything can be made quickly if you boot the weather in the kettle and then begin your process. :)
You two accomplished a lot just the two of you, cooking with you and Solo is so much fun to watch❤️
Solo and yourself are probably the healthiest minded people on RUclips. You are truly real and don’t sugar coat just for personal gain. BRAVO
I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦 and we use a “kettle” everyday 😅 for tea and instant coffee ☺️ its a essential in our house

Literally lol
Solo’s face when Sarah says it’s like a cooking date. The Big smiles and ‘yeah’ the sweetest! It’s the simple things that are the best x
Caitlin Parks hi what is gochujang? thank u it sounds good
That sounds amazing!

Thanks so much for the video!!! So happy you are all doing well.
Thanks for the video I just gave birth to baby #6 and coming home from the hospital today we need healthy meals, my kids are 8,6,4,3,1 and newborn
Congratulations!
Congrats!!!
Sarah, thanks for sharing about the electric kettle, been married 26 years and never had one, now I want one
I think U, Solo, and ur children are just awesome
Thanks for sharing ur lives with us
I just found this channel. I dunno, I just get a really good vibe from this family. They seem so kind and cool. God Bess y’all! Much love from NZ :)
Lol we also use a kettle everyday in Australia, in my house it gets used about 10-15 times a day 😂... i love the way you and Solo thanked each other in kitchen, super sweet.
Sally Shuttleworth Yep Aussie here too and absolutely!!!!
Sally Shuttleworth I think that it is refreshing to see a couple like them that have so much respect for each other. They are pleasant to watch.
Stuffed peppers with cauliflower rice is genius!! I have to try that!!!
Yes, it sounds delicious.
Would you cook it before stuffing? I’m new to the cauliflower rice game.
@@MsDianaJean I use the bagged frozen and it turns out just fine. Even the kids love it.
Every house in the UK has a kettle. I don’t think I’ve ever been to any house that doesn’t have one because the first thing you’re asked when you go to someone’s house is doing you want a cup of tea’ haha xx
🤣 tea essential!!!
@@medical4652 That comment is neither nice nor true.
Medi Cal that’s not true !
You have such a kind disposition! I’m a fan..First time viewing your videos is today and I’m scrambling to get my menu for the week together
The health risk of that is extremely low, but it can cause the food to have a slight metallic taste.
spicybbq33 I have never heard of that. Thanks for sharing.
That's good to remember, thanks a lot.
I love the way you and your husband interact with racy other, as well as sharing and preparing the meals. Not mention the groceries..God BLESS your family..
10 children and you guys still manage to smile at each other and enjoy😯 I love it 😍 #Happy #Subscriber
Karlla Kathariny Rios you learn something new every day. Eek I always cook tomatoes in my cast iron pans
@@mscott-hart3942 the health risk is pretty low but it can change the taste of your food

Try making curry chicken wings.
Currywurst! Usually eaten with fries but peas work too.

Interesting that she’s saying that the kettle is something “unusual”, because as an American, I own two & I know many people who use them at home. They’re in stores, often on wedding registries, and I see HomeGoods carry beautiful ones all the time
As an American, I've never known any mainland Americans who had any and we don't have any.
Just had to revisit this video for some inspo! Can't wait to make fish curry tonight...yum!
I cook exclusively in cast iron....yep you can cook tomato products in it IF the pan has been well-seasoned before AND especially afterward👍

SAME! I don't use it everyday but I've definitely always had one? So weird.
There are two go to meals that my mom always made for us on a low income budget. And one my Aunt Janice taught me to makethat is quick and easy and is very similar to one of my mom's meals.
Mom's go to Meals:
1.) Ground hamburger beef browned to almost done.
Aunt Janice's go to meal:
1.) Is grill some chicken in a pan to its 90% done.
Tiffany Minton-Elizondo your first meal, omg, I grew up with this too! We always had it with rice, steamed cabbage and sausage.

I chop up the tops of the peppers (aside from the stems) and add it to the filling as well. Less waste and more stuffing!
