    I also did not have plans or the desire to nurse when I was pregnant. I ended up feeling slightly pressured to at least provide breastmilk and ended up exclusively pumping for 14 months. I JUST weaned from it a week ago. I had quite an oversupply the entire time too which is a blessing and a curse. The unexpected benefit though is that I was able to provide some locals mamas BM! I’m sorry but your lactation consultant gave you terrible advice and I question her knowledge on breastfeeding at all. If your baby wasn’t swallowing anything it’s because you were only producing colostrum which we don’t produce a lot of, so he was probably drinking all he could and comfort nursing afterwards. You should let them “comfort nurse” because it encourages your body to do what it’s supposed to do which is produce more milk for the baby. Letting them stay on even when they’re not drinking is good for them and lets them master their latch and nursing abilities.

    • @brooklynnlavoy5682
      @brooklynnlavoy5682 2 дня назад +16

      And she should not have recommended to supplement and start this weird pumping/supplementation regime just based off of him “not swallowing anything”

      Read this while my 6 month old is comfort nursing in his sleep. He's never had formula and hates pacifiers, and I think babies know what they need when they ask to suckle for hours a day. I don't think my supply would be so strong if I didn't just follow my baby's lead.

    A lot of the lighter weight strollers don’t work until they are six months and can sit independently.
    Do yourself a favor and instead of another stroller get a tush baby hip seat and the little snug wrap. The wrap is fantastic for when they are smaller and then I still use it if he’s having a snuggly day. The hip seat is just the freaking best because it’s just like popping they on and off your hip but you get some extra support.
    My son is now 18 months (95th percentile for height and weight) I used our lightweight stroller like twice and now it’s just rotting in our garage and I use my hip seat all the time in and out of the house.
    On the breastfeeding journey we had latching issues and my supply just kept dropping. I remember feeling so guilty about letting go of nursing and then pumping. But during my second month it would take a full day to get even half an ounce and I just couldn’t do it anymore it was so physically and emotionally draining. I’ve learned whatever works best for your family is what you should do. ❤️

    I was put on a similar feed-pump-formula top up schedule after my sos jaundice at 4 days old and my milk hadn't fully come in. Yes it is hard to move away from pumping after that, as I know what u mean, u can see how much milk you are pumping so it is reassuring! I then transitioned to full time breastfeeding for a year but definitely think all that pumping initially did contribute to the crazy oversupply i was then stuck with for the year. Sooo painful. Well done on the staged transition away from pumping/feeding you explained that we'll and im sure it will be helpful for mums in the same boat x

      @sarahalyssa692 pumping does not give the nipple the stimulation it needs in order to make more milk. The nipple stimulation is super important in production. Your nipple never receives the messages that your baby is sending to your body.

    • @kmarie60
      @kmarie60 День назад +3

      @@TerriSiler-hv8inthis is not true. Your breasts don’t care how milk is removed. Empty breasts produce more milk. This can be through nursing or pumping. With the correct flange size, changing of pump parts, and correct pumping schedule, most can produce what is needed for babe. This obviously doesn’t take into account medical issues or those with insufficient glandular tissue that could lead to underproduction, but that would also cause an issue with nursing

    • @TerriSiler-hv8in
      @TerriSiler-hv8in 17 часов назад

      That's just not true. The nipple is an important factor in breastfeeding. You girls have been snowed by these health care workers send you home with breast pumps. Think about it women have been breastfeeding for centuries before pumps came along.

    I think the problem sometimes is new moms really over-think the pumping thing.. and that is alot of unnecessary stress we endure
    I pumped as a working mom with 1 out of my 5 children.. The pressure of that was SO STRESSFUL.
    Best thing was to just feed on demand so supply coordinates with needs of the baby.

    I just want to tell you girls that I'm not sure that these LCs are telling you the full story about breastfeeding. I think it's because they don't want to scare you all off. Lately I see all these post-partum moms leaving the hospital with a pump and a schedule. That's just not the goal of breastfeeding. I do think that yes breast milk is better than formula but the delivery system is not. My youngest was born in 1990. I did not leave the hospital with a breast pump or did I have a consult or was never offered a consultation because they didn't exist. Yes it's good that babies are getting breast milk over formula and I understand about fathers wanting to feed their kids. But there are several things that nursing at the breast provides that bottle feeding cannot give your baby. I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty but the coupling of the breast and the babe does 2 things. By sucking your body is detecting your baby's immune system and will change or adapt to what the saliva is telling it. It's a symbiotic relationship. Your babies saliva tells your body when he needs more and he is going through a growth spurt and your body will adjust the supply which usually takes about 24 hrs or so and your body will make more milk. It takes about 6 weeks in the beginning to get the system working optimally. The saliva tells the body when they are sick and when they are teething. I hear about this sleep regression at 4 months and that's about when his body requires more milk and will nurse more often for about a day or so when the supply and the content of the milk changes. Your milk will know way before you do that your baby is getting sick. So don't feel guilty if you don't want to do it but I always said try it for 6 weeks before you go back to work then decide if you want to do the pump and nurse routine. Or switch. 6 weeks is a good start. But don't forget the breast.

    • @LOLZHAHANOTFUNNY
      @LOLZHAHANOTFUNNY День назад +1

      I have a 6 month old who despises bottles and pacifiers and only wants to nurse at the breast. I'm totally fine with it. He nurses most of the night in his sleep, all of his naps, he prefers it to any solid food I've given him. And he's never had a drop of formula. I think the modern advice of getting them on bottles and pacis and feeding schedules ASAP takes the beauty out of your baby telling you what they need, when they need it. My baby and I just got over the flu and he nursed a ton for 2 days, but it comforted him and kept him hydrated and we both recovered fine. It's a beautiful system ❤

      Amen, this is one of the most amazing things that nature has invented and this just does not happen with the pump.

    • @TerriSiler-hv8in
      @TerriSiler-hv8in День назад

      Yes it is an amazing system and I'm not sure why medical science got so damn involved. Women have been nursing babies without a pump since time began. We don't give our babies enough credit to allow them let us know what they need from us. Now that being said I think preemie etc need breast milk so that's when pumping works. But.our nipples are great at figuring out what to do and us allowing the baby to let the nipple know is the best.

      @kmarie60 День назад +2

      Saliva to nipples is not needed for your body to produce antibodies for baby. If you’re close to your baby and kissing them, they’re coughing and sneezing in your face (and let’s be real, what baby doesn’t do that lol) then there will be antibodies in your milk for babe. Pumping is a wonderful use of technology and it’s the only reason both my kiddos were able to get breast milk almost 2 years each. No need to judge what other mamas do. It’s not 1990 anymore Terri.

      My point is that somewhere along the line advocates of breast feeding changed their course of action to this incessant pumping. It's not necessary. Nature didn't invent breast pumps. Look it up.

I love your friend’s testimony because it was mine also, I prayed for a husband and we met and were engaged and married in less than a year! Jesus is amazing, He did it before and I know He will do it again !

    There’s no healthy drive thru places is so true. It’s really ridiculous that there’s Taco Bell and McDonald’s on every corner when I would totally eat a salad or a wrap.

      It makes me miss Arizona. They have a place called Salad and Go. It's cheap, drive-thru, and healthy!! It's so good they have the best soups, wraps, and salads, and the highest calorie count is about 840 calories, and it's for a cob salad wrap. And its because it has Hard Boiled Egg, Bacon, Avocado, Tomatoes, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Romaine, Mixed Greens, Chicken, and blue cheese dressing, plus the wrap

    You may look into donating that extra breast milk I know there are like forms and stuff but if he isn't tolerating it might be helpful for another mom or baby.

    I only latch my baby girl once a day, if that.. Through the night if she wakes up & I’m tired, lol. I cannot strictly breast feed, I tried. And I couldn’t stay hooked up to my pump every couple hours either. You definitely should have not pumped 30 minutes wow my consultant told me to never go over 25! 😭You did it for as long as you could and you should be proud of that 🤍

      I’ve totally pumped up to 30 minutes when I’m trying to get my milk to come in and it’s helped like crazy. LC’s are often so clueless when it comes to pumping. Especially exclusively pumping 😒 They are more experts at latching.

    As a registered dietitian (and first time mom soon!!) I love this. I would soooo prefer someone have Taco Bell (especially this early in postpartum) for fuel vs. not eat at all and end up with low blood sugar / cranky later. Thanks for sharing your PP journey 🥰🩵
