Czechs were majority Catholic at 44%, but by a margin of less than 5%, the second most popular religion being the lack thereof at 40%. Slovaks on the other hand, remained devoutly religious for the most part, being about 73% catholic at the time with only 10% being atheistic.
It was most definitely not because of religious reasons lol that was the least important issue at that time and only the politicians decided on the split, not the people. And like why the hell would religion matter one side can believe and other does not need to in the end it does not matter in politics
