As an ex-prosecutor in a mountain county in Colorado, I always treated wildlife law violations as very serious cases. Over a 9 year period in that role, I prosecuted two people for careless hunting resulting in the death of other hunters. These kinds of trespass violations can end in tragedy! I don't usually jump from a 16ft. stand but with slugs whistling through the trees around me i didn't hesitate a second. Unlucky for them my uncle who was a N.Y. State Trooper at the time was hunting with me that day. By the time the investigation was done they were hit with 47 charges and lost 8 firearms, 26 sets of antlers, 3 vehicles and had over $6,000 dollars in fines and 2 of the 3 got jail sentences and they all lost their hunting privileges for 5years.

      @@sevaul
Warning shots are very much real. They are explicitly mentioned in police procedural law in several German states. E.g. Bavarian police law requires a warning before the use of firearms against people (unless that would impede the actual purpose of the intervention) and explicitly states that warning can be given as a warning shot. In fact, the implementation regulations state that if there is reason to believe the character of the shot as a warning shot was not understood by the suspect, the warning shot should be repeated. Likewise, if a verbal warning of impending use of the firearm was not understood, a second warning can be given as a warning shot. The regulations also state that warning shots are to be fired at a steep upward angle.
And the same laws also explicitly prohibit shooting to kill unless it's the only way to end a clear and present danger to other human life. Even among those shots fired at people, shooting to kill is a rare exception, with suspects being stopped regularly by shots to the thighs
And please, don't come with stories of people being killed by falling bullets. Can it happen? Yes. But in a situation such as in the video, the probability of someone being right where the bullet drops is negligible. The same applies to "Shots to the thigh might hit the femural artery" - the probability is extremely low. Statistics is a thing.
