    For a while I had been dealing with a stuck on turn signal switch on my daily, the Saab. Unfortunately, this means the CIM has to come out. Right, Scary. But fear not! In this one I take it step by step and show you how to fix the same issue. You can Service the CIM on these cars by exchanging parts. Now, let's do this!

    There are many Saab enthusiastic on RUclips, like : Auto Autopsy, Weakest of Weeks & Saab Master Tech etc... They have many Saab upgrade and repair videos. Meanwhile, I myself as the owner of 2 Saab 9-3 NG, learnt much about Saab from them !

    I love the caption in the end that you drove it 3000 miles so far and still no issues. Wow! 3, 000 miles in Australia means you must have needed to use the indicator switch about 10 times! 😅

    FWIW, the steering wheel bolt in our 07 uses an 8mm (5/16) hex, and was incredibly easy to remove. Didnt have a socket for my impact, used a 3/8 ratchet with ease. Thanks for the upload!

      Oh Fewsh! Sometimes those steering wheel bolts are tightened with the strength of Hercules 😂 that’s good you were able to zip it off

      @@ddubsgarage8285 slightly more than hand-tightened lol. Ended up the CIM was replaced at some time since it was manufactured in 2008, a year after the car was built. I assume whoever installed it didn't torque the bolt down much. I found the turn signal switch contacts were flaking from use, causing a .5-1ohm resistance between them, just enough for the signal to stay activated. Cleaned everything up and lubricated with dielectric grease. Turn signals work properly now.

      @@frostbite1991 the contacts flaking is just what happened to mine! That’s cool you were able to repair it instead of replace it. Good stuff.

    Good, helpful video, albeit a bit scary when you had everything apart. I gave up trying to remove my airbag to replace my steering wheel control buttons but I noted your point about needing a SHORT stubby screwdriver. I think that might be where I was going wrong as the handle kept catching on everything.

      @@user-gf9un2cs7f that screw driver really has to be the perfect length so you can release those springs holding the airbag in. I just happened to be lucky that one of my grandpas old wooden handle screw drivers was perfect!

    I was able to get my blinkers to work fine, I used a metal brush to clean the corrosion, but now my high beams will not turn on. Somehow I must not be putting it together properly. I'll try again later.

      It’s really tough to get it just right. It took me 3 separate tries to get everything in there and to where it would work right. I remember the pieces being small and tough to deal with. One of those “I need 4 hands” jobs.

    Have exact same Saab but mine is an 08. Having issues with the top. Keep getting error to manually close the convertible top. Love my Saab will do all I can to keep this baby rolling. 🤘

      @@ddubsgarage8285 Absolutely got to the bottom of it actually. The neighbors cat decided to turn my top into a nighttime sleeping spot and we know what comes with that...CLAWS.. 😬.. Long story short the top needs to be replaced because of holes and unfortunately water has gotten into the sensor which is what burnt it out. Have it covered right now looking at different places to get the top done. Saab lovers definitely have a deep passion I have found. Glad to have found another channel to share the Saab passion with. 🥰🙏🥰

    Nice! I’ve got to do that to replace the steering angle sensor in the CIM. It does look a bit scary though.

      it is definitely nerve wracking. But, take your time and be careful, and you can totally tackle it! Just a heads up, the traction warning light will still be on after you replace the angle sensor. All it should need is a relearn, which I did with an autel scanner. Took two seconds, just set the wheel straight and then hit a button and the light never came back for me.

    Nice. While you were in there you could have added a spare key on the 93C66. You can run a wire for analog steering wheel controls from pin #2 to aftermarket stereo. Nice video.

    Nice video. Any link for this parts I have the same problem. I opened I not find anything! But the left signal works always when I driving I have to push it up ⬆️ then right not works !

      @@gladiatoralmousa5689 dang. I just happened to find a NOS kit for the CIM on eBay. You may have to do some digging online to find the same thing

    So what's the name of the housing unit piece for the turn signal shaft on eBay.... I can't find it

      @@shawnrivera4242 the whole assembly is the CIM cover. Turn signals are just part of it. You may really need to do some digging to find it, I just got lucky finding a complete NOS CIM

    When you got your parts from ebay, did you buy a whole column? Where did you get the red key? Thanks for the video! You are the only source that didn’t tell me I have to go to a dealer to get my $1600 car fixed.

      Absolutely no problem! This is what I hoped, that maybe I could help someone out. I bought just the CIM housing second hand on ebay, because I just needed the turn signal stock. You just need to make sure it is from the same model of 9-3 for that. The red Key came with the new CIM+clockspring I bought on ebay a while back. I would try to find just the key and see if anyone has it on ebay, because the new CIM and Clockspring (they are basically a unit) cost me 500 dollars!

      What does the red key do? I can't find one anywhere. Considering teardown without it.

      @@rome288 the red key holds the clockspring in the right place when you pull the CIM off of the Steering column.

    I do love these cars but are they problematic in terms of engine and gearbox?

      The engines are actually pretty good. It's more the wiring and control modules that control the engine and gearboxes. I've had more electrical problems really than anything mechanical going wrong with the engine.

      @@thatsentertainment5602 so far my stock turbo is going strong at 178,000 miles. Mines a 2007 9-3, but the same gen 9-5 has a stronger 2.3 turbo engine that can handle boost better. older 9-3's with the B234 4 bangers are known to last a long time.

      @@thatsentertainment5602 yeah no problem. They are pretty close to the same for the most part, it comes down to the styling you prefer, and the 9-5's engine is a little sturdier. just know, if you buy a saab you will need to give it a little love. and i wouldn't expect anything perfect.

    When doing this CIM - Module repair does it require programming new CIM Module? Or is it simply a plug and play here year I'm asking about is 03 Saab 93 arc thanks...

      If you only replace the steering angle sensor and clock spring and you leave your old cim computer in you shouldn’t need to do any programming

      @@ddubsgarage8285 I'm being told the car powers on but just won't start!!!! Guy told me need to change CIM Module clock spring in car and have key re pro grammed in order to start it. I'm thinking is there a bypass way around that where can avoid changing cim module and clock spring altogether....🤔

      @@ddubsgarage8285 oh alright..how can I determine whether the CIM Module clock spring is compatible from a donor Saab for use in Vehicle with programming of key fob to start it once has been changed out from bad to good one ?

      @@Heylo7 I actually got a replacement cim kit on eBay for my exact car. It was not cheap, but it was totally worth it knowing what I was putting in was brand new

    NG 2005 9-3 2t convertible owner:
    OMG Dont attack the steering wheel if its indicators or high beam trouble! Just pull the stalk out - just takes a firm tug (how well designed) - then 'generously' spray aerosol electric cleaner into the contacts - presto done in 2 minutes (my high beam weren't staying on)

      Had to pull the cim apart to replace the stalk. Wish it was that simple with Saabs 😂

    Good work man! Looks like a bear of a job honestly… a lot of precision work. So you did not end up replacing the entire CIM? Just the component that connects to the high beam/turn signal stalk?

      Hey thanks! Yeah it is a scary job for sure. I did just replace the turn signal stalk and that was it. It was definitely difficult to get all the different parts aligned. Been driving it a long time from that repair and everything is still working well!

    Thanks for the vid, I have purchased a CIM. Is there any reason to not just replace the whole unit, rather than the part that you remove from the CIM. I have purchased a saab genuine part. Love my 93 Aero but its startign to get hard to get parts here in Tasmania.

      Damn I can see how that would be hard to get parts down there, especially for a Saab!
      So the only thing that becomes an issue if you replace the whole unit is that you have to “marry” it to the car using a tech 2 scanner. That would defeat the whole no programming needed part of the video

    Thanks for putting this video together. Makes it seem achievable for me. I see a few people have already asked about the red key and you have said it came as part of a NOS cim kit you got. Would you be willing to post a photo from directly above it sitting on graph paper? Perhaps I could then create a 3d model of it to print. It looks super handy for doing the job successfully

    What if your steering is locked in the center and the holes to remove it is inaccessible

      You may need to find a way to get the steering wheel to free up and then turn it. A steering lock malfunction May actually be caused by your ignition switch down near the center console. Tough issue to have! Lmk what you come up with!

      Before digging into your CIM I would check that your horn has a good ground and your connections are clean!

      @@ddubsgarage8285 i will check connections tomorow but funny thing is that when i hit with hand ontop of the stalk unit where spring is the horn starts to work and then dissapear again after a while.

      I removed airbag today checked all wires there where fine. One thing i noticed was 2 wires going to the one of the 3 connector on the metal plate. It was mounted on the left side so i moved it to right side and now horn works. I was out driving turning wheel both sides and still works. Hope it is fixed i dont think it is CIM. I will test more this week. Cheers

      I was able to find a NOS CIM kit on eBay, it was pretty elusive though. Definitely take your time and try to find a new one. A junk yard is sometimes a gamble with things like this

      the key came with the NOS CIM I found on ebay.
