Hi ahle. There was something we did while I was in the Marines to cool water in really hot places where we didn't have ice . We just took the warm or hot water we had, put it in a plain plastic water bottle , soak a preferably clean cotton sock 😂 stick the bottle in it and hang it out in the sun. Keep it wet for about 10 to 15 minutes then let it dry a bit. By the time it's 90% dry the water will be pleasantly chill. We did this in the 115-120° heat . Try that !
You can buy a cooler and buy two or one bag of dry ice, and then buy regular ice!!! This literally lasted me 4 days and my food stayed frozen during my Coachella weekend trip. It was awesome. If I lived in a van I would definitely use that as a fridge
Living in a van and road tripping seems like a blast!! The biggest hurdle seems to be having residual income. Beyond that hurdle, I think traveling and seeing things would be incredible.
From one woman to another. Please be safe and watch your surroundings. I admire your strength for doing this and knowing what works for you. It takes a certain kinda of person to be content with Van living. So big ups and one 💛
You can eat very healthy foods without a stove, microwave, toaster: fresh fruits, tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers, rye crips like WASA with Jam (needs no refrigeration), freshly sliced lunch meats from the supermarket deli counter, noodle salads, cheeses sliced to order, two slices you eat at once in your car...the list goes on.
The need to eat super healthy mostly goes away when a person living closer to survival mode (not over-eating, regular fasing whether planned or not, and being physically active). Of course this is more true for leather tramps than for rubber tramps.
I tried to do jam without refrigeration, but skipping one day using it, it started to mold. Yes it was the normal sugar amount, not reduced. I even kept the jar floating(or sunk) in water, as that was the most stable lowest temperature possible, otherwise a high of 32C inside.
A sailors trick for you, You should hang your fruit in a small free swinging hammock, too much road bounce will cause it to bruise and ripen too quickly. The hammock will cancel out the road bounce.
When I was living out my car I just ate chipotle everyday. Salad bowl with double both beans, double veggies, chicken, 3 sauces, and more lettuce. That cost me about $7.50 a day, since I fast and I just have 1 meal a day. Sometimes I'd go for double chicken and / or chips and guac.
Here's a tip to avoid eating cold oatmeal I learned while living in my vehicle. I would go into a convenience store and get a small cup of hot water to mix my oatmeal into some places will charge a little for the cup and some will give you the cup of hot water free either way they won't usually charge much
I live in a 32 foot long camper trailer full time and have all full sized amenities but my microwave is blown and needs to be fixed and you’d be surprised at how easy it is to get used to boiling water for meals and using a toaster oven or stovetop to cook meals. I also don’t have hot water and have become accustomed to boiling water in my kettle for washing dishes or myself or whatever. It’s kinda old timey feeling and I love it.
I use a sterno stove for basic cooking. You can use it in the vehicle without having to worry about a lot of carbon monoxide like a camp stove, and a 2-can pack lasts me a few months. It works good for heating stuff up like soup, chili or other canned items, as well as some "tv dinners" as long as you thaw it a bit and wrap it in foil. I also pop popcorn in olive oil with it. Most canned goods can be heated in the can, so no need for cookware. Doesn't work well for steak, or anything that needs to be browned, though. I find the biggest issues I have are that I cannot have have any perishable leftovers without a refrigerator, and it's hard to buy the correct portions of things. Sometimes I just look at something I want, but the portion is so big, there is no way I can (or would want to) eat it all in one sitting. That gets frustrating. As far as produce, there is the issue of being able to properly wash it. You can go through a lot of water quickly, and storing a ton of water is a pain for me. Peelable veggies and fruit are easiest. I eat a lot of hummus, avocado, cereal, canned soup, chili, bananas, oranges, nuts, non-refrigerated Hormel dinners, and I usually buy a half gallon of milk and finish it everyday. You can also get custom portion sizes of deli items, and I have literally bought like two slices of meat and cheese for a sandwich or snack. They look at you funny, but oh well. It has been a struggle to adapt because before, I typically cooked everything from scratch and even baked my own bread. My favorite peppers are green. Cheers!
@Valerie from Oregon people who live in a car do not have that type of money. I once met a women who sold popsicles out the back of her car to migrant workers using a cheep igloo cooler. She would wrap the popsicles in towels and that kept her popsicles frozen all day.
My first week of living in my car I was sleeping at a neighborhood park for kids, where I thought I'd be pretty safe, and a guy with a hoodie came up to my car and started yelling and hitting my car. If it weren't for my dog scaring him off, who knows. Be safe everyone ♥️

A little oil and vinegar, lemon juice and salt and pepper can last all monrh and the veggies are free. Be safe when you forage and follow these rules: 1. Make sure you have a 100% positive identification on a plant before eating it. (The plants listed above are easy to id.) 2. Don't harvest near busy roads, polluted areas, areas sprayed with chemicals, etc. 3. Try plants in very small amounts before eating a new plant for the first time. This will reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, allergic reactions, etc.. 4. Be aware of the plants around the ones you are harvesting. This can help you find specific plants as well as helping to avoid harvesting near by plants that may be poisonous. I recommend learning the most common poisonous plants for your area. 5. Also regarding hot water it is easy to use solar energy to heat water at least during warmer months. Either way hot water = hot oatmeal. :) As a fellow traveler and minimalist I admire the fact you are living the way you are. Good luck and best wishes. ❤
When my fridge broke down, i had cereal with small 250ml boxes of soya milk that did not need to be in the fridge. Had a hob so could cook rice onions eggs peppers which dont need to be kept cold either.
A typical daily meal for me while living in my car might include a croissant for breakfast, garlic naan bread for lunch (you can even make and prepare your own dips for these), and mini quiches for dinner. You will also be surprised that certain cold products can be kept fresh if you keep them in a cooler pack as long as you are prepared to either eat or drink them at room temperature. These can include cheeses, dips, and espresso iced coffees. Smoked meats are another good item because the meat is already pre-cooked and the packaging is usually vacuum sealed. I eat things that can just be eaten by hand and that don't need to be cooked.
I live in an apartment and I still use a solar cooker in the summer. It gets into the 100s so this girl isn’t heating her place up even more. In fact I have the heat turned off. I’m not paying for extra heat. Nice cold showers and an occasional lukewarm bath is refreshing after a day out in the heat. Then I sit down to a nice slow sun cooked meal.
Mendez S you paint a nice picture. I’m going to do a multi day overland camping trip, I just realized how hot it’s going to be and a cold shower probably would be refreshing after a day of hiking.

If you haven't got a fridge and/or a stove then never buy more perishable food than you can eat, and maybe think of Raw foods which are fresh, delicious, healthy and low-calorie. I love humus too, but prefere my self made humus to the industrially prepared versions that often (always) have some chemical stuff in it to make it last longer, and taste better (?).

I currently use a 5 cup rice cooker in my house, at work and in my stealth camping van. It uses a mere 250 watts of power and the recipe options are quite numerous. A small inverter will run it, I've actually been driving and cooking dinner at the same time...
Alot of backpacking equipment cam be used for van/rv living. For example the pocket stoves then a $5 propane canister with backpacking pot an pan set and your options would more then triple

I thought I was the only one with a pepper preference. My bf thought I was crazy. I love green peppers the most and I can tolerate yellow and orange but red is a huge no for me 😂
I've slept in minivans in cities for years. We black out he windows so peeping in is impossible. Lock your doors and you are safe. I've never had a bad encounter, but if I did, I would just get in the driver seat and drive my home away before an intruder broke in (that's my game plan, someone breaking into a vehicle is loud especially if you are in it, so you would have time to just leave)

Peppers depend of what I’m using them for. Yellow, orange and red for raw things. Green bell peppers or poblanos for roasting or sautéing. Jalapeños for seasoning. I love pickled pepperoncinis on sandwiches and pizzas.
I will definitely get some solar panels mounted if and when I do a conversion. A fridge is a must. I'm not sure if I'll get a stove though. I could get by with a hot plate, conventional oven and my crock pot.
Or you can buy instant oatmeal cheap at Walmart and just mix water with it. U can eat it cold. You can get a lunch box oven at Pilot truck stop 28.00 their worth it too. Plugs into ciggarette lighter and can cook food with it. They also sell a water boiler for making soup, instant mashed potatoes and other stuff needing hot water, also plugs into acc plug.
Canned stuff, cereal, veggies that don't require a fridge. It can be done! Heck sometimes if I want a hot meal I'll buy brats or something and go start a fire lol. Simple things. And yes your right NO FAST FOOD! Good luck to you girl! You're one of a kind ;) Edit: buy a cooler. Ice is fairly cheap or can even get for free.
Ciber AV research distilled water therapy. Its really good for you and only leaches non organic minerals out your body. It does not touch organic minerals, its very safe. Ive been drinking it for years, don't belive all the myths.
For me just having hot water for tea/coffee, quick oatmeal, or cup a noodles.. is a game changer. I got a Pocket Rocket which uses little propane cannisters. They heat water pretty fast and take almost no space... great back up for if there is a power outage also.
With hundreds of thousands youtube's subscriber ( and it look like it will continue to grow), i am sure you will get better and comfortably life later 😊👌
Don't really have a favorite pepper...but any pepper that tastes good when prepared with something else. I don't generally eat peppers on their own. I generally prefer them minced or ground as small as possible.
Oh shoot, I’m instantly in love. Excuse me for not containing myself - you are living my life and I enjoyed your expression and communication sooo much. Celebrating you! Also thanks for shifting some pieces in my brain; the hummus snackers solves my excess of hummus dilemma
wow u guys take driving for hours so lightly. driving from the southernmost point to the northernmost point of england is about 14 hours but i can’t even get my head to agree with a 2 hour road trip let alone any other mission.
When I go on trips I bring metrx health bars. You can buy a whole case of them and like eating candy bars but you can sustain good healthy life on them.
Just a little mayo on that hummus sandwich will help the flavor alot. You can get the little packs at WM and convenience stores. You don't need so much water because food has alot of water in it like those peppers you ate are full of water. Too much water is not good.
You should tell people about your window covers. I've lived in a van now for five years, and just accidentally found reflectix. I was looking for material I could put under my sleeping pad, and realized this stuff would make a great window cover. The same stuff you're using for window covers
I think places like Trader Joe’s is a good place to find healthy easy to prep food. The TJ brand food they make is all made from organic ingredients. Also, they give health insurance even to their part time staff.
What a beautiful free spirit. My wife and I has lived in a van and a box truck for a little while. Now we are buying a house. Believe it or not we do miss the van life sometimes. Please take care of yourself and be safe.

I like orange peppers also
my most fav pepper in that order is red then yellow or orange and least fav green ;P behhh
I am addicted to watching your videos, so much wisdom on minimizing the way of living.
I get ready-made salads a lot and then nuts and seeds cheese some lettuce and tomato sandwiches
I love that it was plantbased.
What of your experiences with weather good and bad rain, hail etc do you monitor a weather channel.
That is a really good question. Hopefully, she at least has an app to alert her to dangerous weather conditions.
Dood, hailstorms and tornadoes! I keep forgetting that is a thing that happens in the US.
Bell peppers of any color are all the exact same vegetable. It's just varying degrees of ripeness that makes them a different color and flavor.
Canned stuff, cereal, veggies that don't require a fridge. It can be done! Heck sometimes if I want a hot meal I'll buy brats or something and go start a fire lol. Simple things.
And yes your right NO FAST FOOD!
Good luck to you girl! You're one of a kind ;)
Edit: buy a cooler. Ice is fairly cheap or can even get for free.
Dont drink distilled water!
Ciber AV research distilled water therapy. Its really good for you and only leaches non organic minerals out your body. It does not touch organic minerals, its very safe. Ive been drinking it for years, don't belive all the myths.
I've been drinking distilled water for years also with no problems.
I would love to see a scientific study on that topic.
Sorry, I was thinking of deionized water.
Ciber AV distilled water is even more pure than deionised water....
just subscribed. ✔️🤠
♥️
I am having a hummus and red pepper samich right now. With every seed. Yummy! When I go shopping again will get orange!
Have you tried stainless steel vacuum wattler bottles? They work wonders in summer, keeping your water fresh and coldish! loveyour channel 💚
orange, red, yellow, ............ green. LOL
I enjoy cool oatmeal. I like your videos
For me, the order is yellow, then maybe orange or maybe red, then maybe red or maybe orange, then green. Yellows are my favorite
*of Britain not England*
RED!
Your da bomb. I do the same on my sailboat
I live this way. Dehydrated foot. Is the key to variety. Bananas apples. I did like oranges but I can no longer eat em.
You can try nuts and seeds also. Super healthy and non-perishable :)
Crock-Pot beautiful make sure your van smell nice and you can start cooking in the morning while you travel
You should tell people about your window covers. I've lived in a van now for five years, and just accidentally found reflectix. I was looking for material I could put under my sleeping pad, and realized this stuff would make a great window cover. The same stuff you're using for window covers
YELLOW PEPPERS!!!!!
i thought hummus was refrigerated???
depressobeans not all of them!
Delightful young lady. Kudos to her parents!
And great idea from Midnight Visions on the the sailors trick to prevent bruising of fruit.
There’s places that refill the 5 gallon bottles and they’ll fill up little ones too. But I’m sure you know that🤓
Oatmeal without cooking it and leaving over night is better for people, it can help diabetics in a huge way..
Also you have good taste in music!
Hummus and pita or burrito shells canned fish , lettuce , Onion , peppers ,you get idea but hummus a home run.
sheeeeesh! she is naturally so beautiful, not seen someone as beautiful as her 😳
God bless you, be safe out there. I really think you are brave girl
Thanks for the video. Its so inspiring.
A small propane camping stove takes up minimal space and could really make your food more enjoyable :) -From an rv dweller
Banana 🌶 peppers
Get yourself a mini rocket stove, you just need little wood and you can warm or cook a whole meal on it, look it up will be useful.
I think places like Trader Joe’s is a good place to find healthy easy to prep food. The TJ brand food they make is all made from organic ingredients. Also, they give health insurance even to their part time staff.
The Orange pepper is the best. I can only eat red peppers roasted or in stir fry
love these ideas! our rv stove and oven are currently broken so i’m
always looking for new food ideas.
I hate bell peppers
Yes! Peppers and hummus is so pro. I always go with green, but I'll check out the orange next time.
What a beautiful free spirit. My wife and I has lived in a van and a box truck for a little while. Now we are buying a house. Believe it or not we do miss the van life sometimes. Please take care of yourself and be safe.
