The Oscar doesn’t deserve this masterpiece
@@ggt47 indeed, I find it funny that people say The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece, yeah, no, it has nothing on this game. The final fight against Abbie in that game was dis-satisfying, you didn't use any of what you had Ellie learn, plus the ending sucked, it was ambiguous and left you wondering what you played through the game for. "We'll never have a chance to die peacefully of old age" I'm glad Jack proved her wrong.
Also Solid Snake, who ironically carried and acted on The Boss' will more than Jack/Big Boss himself despite having never even met the woman.
But he didn't, he died from Foxdie, after seeing Solid succesfully take down the patriots.
He didn't die peacefully or from old age lol
@@joshuawidener8407 I digress, he lived long enough to be an old man and *did* died a much peaceful death for a veteran soldier. At least, compared to his mentor The Boss.
His final smoke he shared with his last remaining son and finally reconciliate with him, ending his decades of bloody war with Zero, understanding The Boss's will at the twilight of his life, and died with tearful smile on his mother figure grave.
He died peacefully.
Big Boss definitely still had some regrets even when death knocking his door, but he made peace with it and "let it go" himself.
His cells exploded and he had a heart attack.
I just realized that at the start, Snake didn't stood a chance against the boss. She had a lot of chance to hill him but he didn't. Rather than finishing off, she just spared and basically trained him more. That's why as their fight progress, you can see Snake being able to keep up with her more and more, escalating to this moment where Snake was finally able to beat The Boss.

The Boss was such a powerful character. Not just in-game. MGS3 released at a pivotal time in my life. Bad people in my life, bad decisions, etc. Her character was so strong, even though she wasn't present that much in this game, but it still influenced me. Undying loyalty is a strong thing. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's good. I don't know how Kojima did it, but to me, he really managed to make the Boss into this motherly character which you just can't help but love, and herdeath hit me really hard. To this day, whenever I see this, I choke up. It's a once in a lifetime character.
“One must die, and one must live… no victory, no defeat…”
Kinda same here, but i was stressed about life and school. Isn't it wild how a silly video game makes you think differently about life? Or at least give you motivation to be something greater? Also the game Last Of Us influenced me too.
“The real Adam never showed up at the meeting place”
Ocelot: I’m about to drop the biggest plot twist in video game history
This is single-handedly the most emotional boss fight I ever had to go through in the entire time period of me playing video games.
Yeah sure Roach, Ghost and Soap's deaths are hard to watch but this is the hardest of them all.
She betrayed her country alright, because she had a reason. She didn't defect to the Soviet Union, nor was she a war criminal. She wanted to make the two nations that divided up the world into two factions realize that their senseless differences and useless rivalry was slowly consuming them and the world was slowly being broken up into pieces with their own indivdualist ideals, all bent on one thing, TOTAL ANNIHILATION. One nation was against the other, constant revenge, constant bloodthirst.
The Boss wanted the world to put an end to all of it, she wanted the world to be whole again, not by armed military takeovers, revolutions or global control using digital information control or anything like that, but just plain peace. No hostilities, no wars, just plain peace.
She betrayed America because America betrayed her, the sacrifices she made, the service she rendered was accepted wholeheartedly by the US government, instead they paid her back with treachery and sheer indignity just so they can get the upper hand against the Soviet Union.
She never wanted to kill Snake, you can see she was clearly helping him throughout the story.
She would never kill her own, she basically adopted Snake by training him and passing on what she learned to him.
But Snake, still a government tool by this time was forced to kill her, for the sake of the mission. The Boss understood that, and she never flinched at the prospect of death, death at the hands of her own disciple, her own son. When she gave birth to her real child, Ocelot, he was taken from her by the very people she thought she trusted.
Then, she had another child, one she raised and trained to be just like her in combat. But once again, her nightmare came back and her second child, Big Boss became a government tool, this time, to kill her. Yet, she refused to kill him, and accepted that the most honorable way to die was to be killed by her own.
All she ever wanted, was the illusion we call, "peace..."
True, that’s what makes her memorable
Wow, this guy truly gets it.
no she didn't betray her country, the entire betrayal was a ruse. her task was to act like she's defected and be eliminated by snake. she stayed loyal to her mission to the end.
She never betrayed her country. She remained loyal to her mission. Despite all that The Boss was going through, all she could do was "sing." It was confirmed at the end of Peace Walker. Once Big Boss realized that, he saluted her and then tossed her bandana away. Big Boss said that he'll never make the same mistakes as she did and accepted his destiny while facing the times.
The song says.. teach that to love him she must be concidered for te law has a criminal.. she did it for love never left america.. she kept the hope for a light that shines someday.. it qgrr the love of a true woman.. I admire her..
The Boss is my all time favorite from the franchise. Eva is is my 2nd favorite in this game. I wish so badly for a WW2 game that was about The Boss as the main playable character. I would like to see how she formed the COBRA unit and the way they fought. Even the history between her and the Sorrow.

At the age of 38 I found myself humming the theme from this to myself. I came here to confirm it was from MGS3. So powerful it lives on in my subconscious all these years later. I only played through the game once.
Good news, the remake is coming
What theme
This was one hell of a fight, when I played this game, I had literally seconds to spare when I finished the fight. Easily the most difficult showdown in the game, one that pushed you to the utmost limits and culminated in a very satisfying ending that made you want more, an epic battle that got it right. Shame the Metal Gear series is dead in the water, even if it lived on, without Kojima-san it just won't be the same. Such a fantastic game from start to finish.

Sure i like remake but considering the state of Konami right now i just want they stay away from this franchise..
I don't think this game needs a remake. A further remaster and port is all that is needed. Maybe see what Konami do with the Silent Hill revival
that's awesome. I literally just said on here that Last of Us was a powerful story as well. Last of Us made me think so different about the world. If everything in this world got wiped and starts over, regardless, there's always going to be some new corrupt organization (The Fireflies) trying to exploit humanity.... In Joels case, he knew that and made a decision.
The musical ambience that Gustavo Santaolalla made in Last of Us inspired me to learn it on the guitar. The main theme is one of the only guitar songs I can play from start to finish. And funny thing, it's the intro music on the new HBO series. (which the show is kinda just ok but I'm just accepting it for what it is)
TLOU1 told a decent story, TLOU2 destroyed it. I agree completely, Naughty Dog could not hold a candle to this. Kojima is a creative genius.
When I first finished this game at 12 or 13 I cried my eyes out. It was gut wrenching. No game has ever touched this since, Witcher 3 comes in second.
The end of Red Dead Redemption for me. John didn't deserve that double cross.

This (and all other MGS games) are timeless masterpieces.
And most importantly, i think they show how sickening addicted to open world and sheer scale are today's AAA games. This game had some very small maps, and yet it could take hours to complete them in your first run, and the feeling was intense AF.
Fr first time playing this on my ps3 exploring the maps was intense felt like an hour just walking around
@@indicatexxxx2656 same. It took me about two hours, with several failed attempts, to complete everything at that base before ocelot's boss fight without being detected, and same for that area where you can find the LMG.
To die known as a hero wouldn't be so bad. But to die as a villian when you’re really being a hero is something else completely.
Even though I played this game almost 20 years ago the ending still sticks with me and humbles me - will I do the right thing, even if people will hate me for it?

One of the greatest final battles of the video game history.
She was wrong about one thing I know of and that is Big Boss aka Naked Snake died peacefully in the arms of his beloved Son Solid Snakes.
Killed by foxdie virus from Old Snake
Snake truly died inside after Eva revealed the entire truth about the boss
Eva was the woman Naked Snake banged, but the Boss was the woman he loved. Not in a sexual way, but definitely in an intimate way. It's one thing I really liked was that there wasn't a perfect word for their relationship. She was a mentor, a friend, a partner, a war buddy, and mother figure, and more. Eva may have been the femme fatale, but there's no question that the love story of the game is between Snake and The Boss. It's not a story of romantic love; it's about friendship, duty, legacy, patriotism, and more.
Boss = Snake Mom
52:53 - none of the politicians knew just what can of worms they opened by making big boss shed some tears. This whole ending sequence is masterfully done because you just know that kind of thing absolutely happens in real life. Today's enemies could be tomorrow's friends and vice versa but it's the people with feet on the ground that have their own lives on the line while the ones pulling the strings from behind the scenes use them like pawns on a chess board and don't care who they sacrifice along the way so long as THEIR goals and ambitions are satisfied. Snake dissing the CIA director on the way out of the clown show meeting was a nice touch... Even though he didn't want to shake the presidents hand, he reluctantly did to let them play out their photo op but shaking the hand of the man that resulted in Snake having to kill his mentor and friend was an injustice that he just couldn't abide. Hideo: my thanks for bringing us this absolute masterpiece that will no doubt be remembered as one of the best video games of all time.
This and the liquid ocelot fight are the absolute best fight scenes in the franchise

“I am the last remaining child of the philosophers”
Okay well Ocelot was born and can be considered the last remaining descendant of the Philosophers. That’s how bloodlines work. If Ocelot had a kid then the philosophers legacy would still continue.
Well the boss wasn’t a part of the philosophers so it makes sense why she’s the last child of the philosophers
For the first time after countless times playing through the entire franchise, I've realized something:
Naked Snake doesn't talk at all while The Boss is speaking, and the same happens at the end of MGS4, when Big Boss talks with Snake, Snake remains completely quiet (not *that* Quiet)
I think this means that both Naked Snake and Old Snake had to reflect and listen to wiser words than their own. They both recognized The Boss and Big Boss as honorable soldiers and knew their place in history.
I haven't played this game in over 15 years and the story and this ending still stick with me. I remember it took me a full 10 seconds to muster up the ability to pull the trigger on the boss after the fight.
I didn't realize I had to pull the trigger...
When I did my mind caught up with my thoughts and when the petals turned red I knew what I just did....
10 seconds?! I was a 14 year old boy refusing to pull the trigger.. I thought if I waited long enough it wouldn’t make me
This is absolutely brilliant, Kojima is on a whole other level.
It's Crazy, the Philosophers took her father from her, made her take the life of the man she loved, took her child, made her out to be a War Criminal, and had Jack, who was like her son take her life, even tho her father was a Philosopher as well. She gave her entire being to doing what they wanted her to do, and in the end got nothing back. Seeing her cry because someone was actually listening to her express how hollow she was is beyond heartbreaking. I'd like to think If only Jack would've chose her instead of the mission, that the entire history of Metal Gear would've been different. Jack Shooting her was a mercy killing, hard to think that if anyone else was in her position, if we had lost as much as she did, found out how pointless our entire lives were, that we wouldn't have asked for the same.
One of the best fights in game history. Change my mind.
Ocelot final fight was great
In his attempt to bring Boss's dream to life, Snake only brought about her worst nightmare
So true. The things she clearly disapproves of here, he completely encourages at the end of peacewalker and Metal Gear 2. He really just got lost in his own sadness and anger, and had no direction as a result.

"Five more minutes"
*Snake Eater starts playing*
Yeah it's action time
A common criticism of Kojima games I have heard is that they are often very over the top, sometimes unnecessarily. I agree to an extent. However, something that I do take issue with is that many people I know say Kojima can't do subtle storytelling.
47:13 this is proof that he can. This was the moment that this became one of my favourite endings in all of media, even before "she was a true patriot" happened. It's such a brilliant form of show not tell that has so many layers to it, and it's a very small section of the ending. The fact Big Boss doesn't go to shake his hand but simply lowers his hand. *Chefs kiss* I could gush about it for hours.
47:33 and of course, the soundtrack as well as the absence of dialogue is all you need.

This battle, this speech is just a masterpiece of storytelling. My young teenage brain was forever changed when I was force to pull the trigger.
The first game I ever played where the camo made a difference.
Ok, it's time to cry again, but in 4K.
I remember when I got my PS2 one of my friends in middle school told me about this game and he let me borrow and he said that I would love it, after I played it and beat it I did love it. To some people this is just a “game”, but to other people who have not only played this game, but the whole franchise by the great Hideo Kojima to us this is more than just some “game” the MGS series had a complex story telling, characters that we loved, hated, that made us felt anger, sadness, quotes that we remember, teaching us history (to some people they won’t care but for me it’s was very informative and interesting), soundtracks that each game had that was unique to every MGS game. It’s unfortunate that Konami has given up on us the players and their franchises, but these MGS games I will always love and replay no matter how many times I have beaten it
Hands down best story in a video game ever. The boss is a legend. She should have her own game when she was leading the cobra units in ww2.
I've thought the same thing! But she would be pregnant after all.
That be even better. She fucking shit up while being pregnant. How badass is that? The ending twist will reveal she is pregnant and then it ends with her giving birth then the patriots end up taking her kid away.
@@CROCHETbeatthey can do a lot with the plot. During WW2 the cobra unit was sent to destroy V2 rockets. But they could reveal that Germany was building a secret nuclear missle with their own technology and The Boss plus The Cobras are sent on a top secret mission to destroy them.
@@ashtralplane777 bro ur getting me excited for nothing. The boss is my hero. Best character in any media
@@CROCHETbeat bro im getting a tattoo of The Boss eventually. She's my hero too man 🥺
Finally, someone who actually wore the stealth suit for this battle.
1:45 - "Now, consider whether America and Russia will still be enemies in the 21st century. I doubt it."
Crazy how obvious this notion seemed in 2004 when the game came out, how it was used to make the Boss seem wise and prophetic. Becuase in 2004, the cultural and social status quo was such that despite issues, no one even dreamed of a full blown global war, or such ever happening again because of how destructive it is. And now, in 2022, this notion seems almost naive where the world is finding itself now. Nuclear threats left and right, Russia invading another sovereign country, etc.
We have lost the way for sure, and leaders like Putin, Kim-Jong Un and others lost the way completely and we're heading towards another ugly part of history.
Here after the remake announcement trailer 🥳
I’m fucking crying rn 🥹🥲
This was where big boss died within.
Unquestionably one of the greatest games ever made.
Dude, even the flowers know when somebody's dead,so they turn red just to show for it and mourn The Boss.

The saddest moment in the videogame history.
And Hideogame
That painful realization that The Boss answered the very same question she asked Snake: Loyalty to your country? Or loyalty to me?”
The Boss died after being branded a traitor, not to be loyal to the United States, but to be loyal to humanity. She had faith humanity would be united, even if she wouldn’t live to see it.
“Boss, you were right. It’s not about changing the world, It's about doing our best to leave the world... the way it is. It's about respecting the will of others, and believing in your own.”
The Boss: Jack... Kill me now...
Jack: BULLSEYE!
Dead on!
oh my fucking God, it's LITERALLY a boss fight
1:46 - 1:55 That aged like milk
Why can't they make games like this anymore.
Game industry has changed…
Big shit companies nowadays only care about money, money, money
And indle developers does not have enough skill, times and resources to develop such big project
Whenever in media Kojima makes something disappointing, I just tell to myself this is the man who wrote the ending for Metal Gear Solid 3
We still need games like this .
I never thought Pearl Krabs would be this different years later
Aside from those goofs in the COBRA unit and Col. Volgin being electrical, this Metal Gear game in my opinion was the most realistic looking game in the series.
Fun fact The Boss is also Pearl from Sponge Bob. And Pearl was around before this game. Also Diane Simmons the news lady from Family Guy from the first few seasons.
This game aged like fine wine.
