    It's easier to handle high balls when you're blessed with such a clean, textbook one-hander like Meike's! ;)

    Love the last little bit about stepping in for the swing volley. That’s something I like to practice for singles and mixed-hitting a deep moonball and sneaking in on the next one to take it out of the air!! That could be a video in and of itself :)

    To help remedy not hitting the ball deep enough on balls you have to move back on, I tell my players for every foot behind the baseline they hit the ball they have to hit the ball a foot higher over the net.

    many thanks. useful video. do you recommend slightly adjusting the grip on high balls to the single-handed backhand?

      good question

    • @MeikeBabelTennis

      I wouldn’t honestly. a different grip asks for a different swing path and contact point and to coordinate that is tough, especially if its a difficult ball

    Nice compendium. Maybe you should show more backhand on the rise advices, I still see many recreational players taking the racquet back when the ball bounces, as if it were a natural rhythm.

      Youre right. I think I should actually make a separate video about that!

      @@MeikeBabelTennis This is how I view *hitting on the rise* with my one-hander:
      I always want to meet the ball at the same distance out in front; i.e., establish your ideal contact point (which will be waist-high for my Eastern grip one-hander) and *protect* that contact point.
      This is true regardless of whether you are contacting the ball as it is rising or falling. When the ball bounces, my racquet is in the same position, regardless of whether I am hitting on the rise or hitting as the ball is descending.
      I do *NOT* shorten my backswing when I am hitting on the rise. But I am getting pushback from some coaches on this. These coaches claim that I need to shorten the backswing when hitting on the rise. I do not understand this reasoning. My view is that the rhythm changes from "Bounce And Hit" to "Bounce Hit!". A faster rhythm but no need to shorten the backswing.
      The exception might be when it lands at your feet and you are essentially hitting a half volley.
      But in general, no need to shorten the backswing when hitting on the rise with a one-hander.

    How about a slice down the line to change the pattern to a fh to fh again?

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  Год назад

      Risky because you’re leaving your deuce side wide open if your slice is not good enough

    At the recreational level, 85% of players use a one handed backhand. Strange that it's opposite at the pro level
