Ive been watching your vids for quite some time, and just wanted to say keep up the great work. Youre actually one of the few RUclipsrs out there who doesnt give off an inflated ego, or think they are some sort of gamer god just cause they review games, or own a fuckton of games. I wont say any names, but trust me when I say they are definitely out there.
Aqualung, I only have one disagreement about this review/walkthrough of the NES version of Contra, and it's about the flamethrower. While the shots are slow and somewhat limited, you can still use them to your advantage. The spiral patterns that the flamethrower shots travel in are great for catching moving enemies and targets, and because of the spiral patterns the shots fire in, you'll also be able to hit targets better at normally difficult angles much like the spread gun. Beyond that, wonderful review/walkthrough as always. I can't wait till you get to Super C. If it wasn't for emulation and Game Genie codes, I would have never saw the end of that game.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Sean Brendan Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Funny how this video comes just as Konami is changing into a mobile game company. "Mobile games are the future"......fuck out of here with that! Besides that, this was a nice review and walkthrough. Good to see you reviewing a bigger release again, too.
I remember when I became proficient enough at this game that I didn't need the Konami code. Also, I love how the two playable soldiers run in this game; it's like they know they're awesome!
I liked how it was a review and a walkthrough. Made it feel like that I didn't just only get the burger, I also felt that I got the chips and soda combo with it, making for a very filling experience. Great video... Now I'm going to grab a burger and some chips.
Oh man! I remember requesting this game a LONG time ago. Glad to see you finally getting around to it. It was well worth the wait though. You did great with this review/walkthrough of it. This game was notorious back in the day for being quite difficult, but so fun, you wanted to keep trying. The Konami Kode was also HIGHLY recommended, unless you had god-like skills to beat it. It's still a fun challenge to this day. Thanks again for doing this one. Also, do you plan to do the other Contra games? Please say yes! :D
Been a while since I played this. Even with the code...how did I manage to get so good at this madness? I'm going cross eyed just watching all the projectiles. XD
Nice of you to finally tackle this game. It's a shame this has become quite expensive to find a NES copy of this game. I also think that your mic is still too quiet.
Awesome review as always, Aqualung. I was never very good at Contra. I was always more of an adventure game sort of person. Speaking of, do you have any plans to cover an NES game like Maniac Mansion or Univited?
I feel like you could have used a little more practice and maybe a couple viewings of some speed runs to learn the tricks. For the first couple stages you were doing things the hard way until you finally started to figure the game out. My brother and I used to blow through this game when we were kids. Our challenge was always to win without any cheat codes. I remember doing that several times.
"You can shoot in eight directions, including diagonal." A little redundant my friend. Also, you don't have to take out every portion of the level 1 boss, just the censor at the bottom.
Have you played isolated warrior? Now THAT'S a tough game! But man... 24 weapon upgrades? :O Another 6 for your bombs? Easter Eggs? 3D? It's the shit! Cool video here though man. Great game.
Maybe It's because I used to play this a lot as a kid, but contrary to popular opinion, I've never found this game all that difficult....to this day I can beat it with 2 or 3 guys..( no konami code needed)
nintendoneil I've played through this game so much in my life that I can get through it without the Konami code myself. Super C is a different story, LOL.
You can destroy things that go on bottom upwards in stages 2 and 4, by crouching and firing. Great game, not so hard as it perceived, just challenging.
innoutraged I seriously hope that the news about Konami moving into smartphone games is only just news blown completely out of proportion by Internet nerds.
lbn8177 I think he started changing it up where the grade comes after the actual "review" portion cos he did this with MM X too. I kind of like it because it means you know the grade already and then can just watch the "walkthrough" portion right after. Its an interesting twist but one I am totally down for so more power to him you know?
Joshua Curtis The main reason why I changed it up is so that anyone who doesn't want to watch the walkthrough and play through the game without any help (or to avoid spoilers) can do so and still see the final rating. This was suggested to me some time ago and I agree with it.
I've beaten this game 8 times and It's one of my top 5 favorite NES games of all time.

You're one of my favorites. I'm glad you're still doing videos.
Next will be Gradius in your random schedule.
Those bombs that the enemies throw in stage 2 have always looked like large capsules to me, like they are throwing super-sized Extra Strength Tylenol.
This is one of the few games I still enjoy playing on a semi consistent basis. Thank you for the review!

*slightly dramatic movie traler voice * one day I heard the intro theme to these revews.
Nice review/walkthrough,Aqualung.
Thank you, I've been waiting for this

Contra is such a good game. End of story.

Oh Konami you used to be good.
16ktsgamma Yup. It's sad what they've become.
16ktsgamma Agreed. Back in the late '80s and early '90s, this company could do no wrong in my eyes.
14:14 good idea not to bump into him. it WILL kill you. at least it's relatively easy to jump over him. you just have to time it right.
First... :) great videos do more Atari :)

RIP Konami March 21, 1969 - May 14, 2015

Loader2K1 So do I.
15:32 you should have said try to take the top route. that is quite a long jump.
I fucking love NES Konami
I'm surprised that you chose to give an overall rating for the game at the middle of the video instead of at the end of the video.

you mean at the end of the review instead of the end of the walkthrough
And then they made dance dance revolution. What happened?
And then they cancelled silent hills
The bemani series of games are fantastic. Check out some other stuff like beatmania and pop n music
