v7.1 has already fixed the focus issue within Memories for comments, a day after I posted this video - comments can be viewed as easily now within the Memories app.
You're very welcome! The only sticky thing for me is the viewer comments but not everyone has that as a requirement, and no app has absolutely everything. Hopefully you also saw my 3 or so other photo management app videos as they may also give some insight into the other offerings.
You mention that there are not sub albums. Dos this refer to the files that you upload all your photos to, or does it refer to the virtual albums? Or both? I agree that your comment about the sub albums would be plenty useful. I can see the top level album photos getting too numerous to be manageable:) Thanks. They review was very informative!
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes I was referring to virtual albums or collections. So like a collection of hiking trips and inside all the albums that represent each individual hike. But could be holiday trips etc as separate collections.
Good point! I'm still struggling to decide and really need to re-watch all my videos about this. I love Memories actually and especially the way it sits (and accepts) the photos inside of Nextcloud, but the commenting system is horribly clunky as it uses Nextcloud's file comments. I imagine the comments are robust as it uses what works well, but if a UI could run the comments in front it could be a winner.

Then I think Memories will serve very well. The end user app also works well on a phone with album views etc, or just sending a plain link which I use for my more tech-challenged family.

I've mostly been uploading from my desktop into Memories. But if you have existing photos in your time line you should be able to open them full screen, and then choose from the menu top right to add to album. Or do you mean from folders someone else shared with you?
@@GadgeteerZA its trying to add shared photos that you don't own to an album. I can't get it to work with either photos or memories :( tags work so thats what we have been using.
I'm not too sure of exactly what your situation looks like but remember there is a difference between Memories albums where you have to "link" photos to them in Memories or during an upload, versus Nextcloud shared folders. For the latter, Memories will have to read those photos in if it has access to those folders i the path. That happens automatically as the photos are in NC shared folders. Only thing for that is to maybe change the root folder in Memories, or else move your NC folders. But if neither Photos or Memories is doing what you expect, the problem is maybe not with them, but at the NC folder level.
I really can't say, as I got rid of my iPhone a year back. I do know iOS is quite aggressive about background apps. It may be worth asking on their Discord channel at discord.com/channels/1100157156742926406/1100157157669879921 or their GitHub project.

But you mean for People View: Click on that Person with question mark icon at top right when in People View. It will highlight some faces with a green square in photos there. Select just those photos with the same face you want to ID. Then click on the icon top right that has small arrow to right saying Move to Person. If a person is not already present, then click on + to add them, and move. But that is only for faces it recognises as faces. You can't manually draw around a face and add it like Piwwigo does. You can maybe tweak the face recognition parameters under settings though to force it to recognise more faces, maybe.
Not also its recognition runs in batch jobs so object, face, etc recognition may take a while after uploads are done. Under Nextcloud Admin Settings / Recognise, you can see if face recognition has photos in the queue still.
Yes you are right, it is mainly because it is an app sitting on top of NextCloud. What would have been a lot better was to for example build in its own commenting system within the Memories app, instead of just relying on NextCloud's comments which get used elsewhere. I would also like to have seen it stand more alone with everything inside the app, and maybe just storing the photos in the NextCloud folders. It has made it more complicated than it should be I think.
@@GadgeteerZAIn my opinion Nextcloud Photos is better. All your memories show up in a gallery and not one by one. There's no commenting system, which I don't mind. It's just much easier to set up, and with Nextcloud anything that makes processes simple is a win. Plus with Photos you can change the gallery icon size to customize even more.
Thanks for that additional insight - yes I think anything though that sits on top of something else won't always be the simplest. Keeping it simple is pretty key. Moving between Photos and Memories can get confusing.
Yes, I realise that, but I don't do "how to" videos at all, nor how to install. I'm really focussing more on awareness about what functions a particular app can offer and what features it have, for people wondering whether it is something they can use. Many people already do how to install etc videos. Memories is especially finicky as it is one app sitting on top of another e.g. comments are particularly difficult. In essence you upload inside Nextcloud into directories if you wish, and then in Memories you click on Albums on the left, and the + symbol at top right of the screen to craete a new album.

Does auto sync work on iOS? So far that’s not working in every app I have tested.
