Hey Robbie just FYI the reason why that persons face didn’t show up in Synology is because for a face to show up on Synology Photos it needs to be found twice while in QNAP it needs to show only once. To actually find that face you would have to go to the actual photo and click on info and it’ll show the face because it was only found once

    Thank you for this information!
I am using Synology and have the Synology Photos app on my android phone. I use the backup feature of this app and it seems to upload the metadata with the photo. I just turned on location data in my phone camera application and this is also uploaded.

Hi! Great video. Still waiting on the video on the mobile apps for these. Maybe you could help include if the mobile apps could handle if the phone camera folders are syncing both to cloud and to the NAS and if you do free up space in your phone using the phone's "Free up phone space", do these qnap and synology sync apps recognize it properly? Thanks!

For QUTS Hero, Photo Station support is ending, or perhaps already ended, but I haven't figured out how to implement QuMagie into Qmedia on TV. Any tips or will support be extended?

How can I run the facial AI function on existing photos on my Synology NAS (home/main) folder? If I add my main folder from my NAS to Synology Photos will it try to copy/duplicate everything? I just want to utilize the facial recognition with photos already stored throughout my NAS.

Hi, thanks for the video, maybe i missed that, but did you compare the size/quality of the photos after they have been copied to each nas from your smartphone? Is quality preserved ? Or photos are recompressed ?

Interesting video, but from a photographers perspective, how do these NASs' work with RAW files, seeing as professional photographers will be saving their images as those? They will also be using software such as Capture One Pro or Lightroom which catalogue images.

A few comments. The type of file determines if it keeps EXIF, IPTC,or XMP data. Would like to know list of AI subject words, and what files did not get any search words. There is also a AppleTV app for photos that is a good start for sharing photos. Build an album on line then use on TV.

This video is exactly what I've been searching for. I'm currently using the Synology DS412+, and I'm facing some serious issues with Synology Moments. The performance when it comes to indexing photos and videos is driving me crazy. The desktop thumbnail previews are painfully sluggish. The Moments iphone app appears to be somewhat better, perhaps because it stores indexing files locally??
I understand that my DS412+ is quite old, and I'm contemplating upgrading to a new NAS. Before making a decision, I'd appreciate your insights on whether the DS923+ offers significantly improved performance for photo and video previews with Synology Photo. This applies to both the desktop and the app. Thanks in advance!

How does the AI compare? For instance, over time which tagged more accurately? Does the AI learn and improve over time as you make corrections to mis-tagged photos? Thank you

@22:32 Aint the sync on qnap done via Google API? And doesn't it reduce the quality of the photos and pictures?? Further, metadata is not stripped doing Takeout? Only difference I have found is that the files' created, modified and accessed date is changed to the takeouts date, while still retaining its original "date taken" data.

As you cant backup / migrate your manually created albums from one qnap to another qnap - you can do that with synology hyper backup this is a huge plus for synology. If your photos are all organized in folders than its ok…

One note for Synology Photos geolocation information. It's not supported for videos. Yet, Google Photos retains that info when they upload the metadata. While video file metadata doesn't support the feature, they should at least keep it in a database like google photos does. Sad to see that whenever my video is backed up from my phone via the synology photos app, that the location where it was filmed was lost. Google Photos retains that info,

Dear Robbie, thanks again for a well made video and comparing these two systems. I can only speak for Synology, because this is the system I'm using. Honestly, the facial recognition of Photos drives me mad. Any my biggest problem you can see at minute 11:20 in your video. QuMagie recognizes you but Photos does not!
I had several emails with the technical support from Synology regarding this problem. I have sent them so many examples where a person in the background who is out of focus and only the side of the face can be seen is recognized. But in the same image, the person in the middle, who is absolutely sharp and three times the size, is not recognized. But unfortunately no help. This drives me nuts.
For me this is not really usable. I don't know if this is possible, for sure it is, but it would be nice if you select the information tab that all recognized persons would have a square around the recognized faces. And if one or more persons are not recognized that you manually could add them.
Okay, manual selection only makes sense if they would drastically increase the hit rate of Photos. Otherwise, it would be a lifetime task for me to go through all my pictures. I was so looking forward to this feature when Synology introduced Photos, but I'm disappointed with the result.
Nevertheless, keep up doing this great content, I really appreciate.
    Best regards, Olli

Hi. Maybe someone can help me. I need NAS only for backups photos (like in Google photos with sync), spaces for some documents. That's all.
What is the best choice for me?
I hear when I choose Synology that take only with+ models. I saw models with M2 disc for system I think nad tat make my nas very fast. But cost around 500$.
Maybe someone propose something to me. Thanks a lot

Synology strips exif data when transferring from app/iphone (at least it did when I last tried it).
For that reason it’s a no go.

After many many years of using Apple iCloud Photo I've recently started to port my Photo Library to Synology Photos. I needed a way to control in one location work related photos(shot with DSLRs) with personal/family etc...the granularity in which you can control permission to who sees what (personal space / shared space) was essential. I've scanned many 35mm film over the last years and i can create conditional Albums based for example on the format and put that on the shared space.
The mobile app has been working great for me and i can backup my pictures at any time., not to mention i can access the library at anytime.
Another thing is RAW file support, so I can preview my RAW files with ease.
The sharing via link protected by password saved my butt more the once, when i needed to sent an entire album to a client that needed some pictures real quick but didn't knew exactly which ones.
It's a great product I think and sort of frees you from the shackles of iCloud and similar

Very informative. And the devil is so in the details. Like wher at 7:35 you're saying Synology can't be told to search in a specific folder i'd have to put my photos in a specific synology folder that is HUUUUGE for me, in a negative way. Or maybe not huge but it's not something i'd like at all. Photos are less important (in that it's less files and i don't use them frequently) to me than music and i'd use plex for those but if i'd hade to move all of my music to some specific folder it'd be a deal breaker.

  • @GrishTech

Can we agree that QuMagie is a horrible name for photo solution? Synology Photos is just so much better, same with Google Photos. If you go ask a person on a steet what the software QNAP QuMagie might possibily do, they would have no clue. The name should be inviting.

  • @derred723
    @derred723 11 месяцев назад +1

On. related point. I'm more and more thinking that i'm more likely to be a user that values the qnap customization and control options a lot. I know synology is viewed as better but when i do buy i might be one that values the customization more than the synology interfacce. And the 264 just gives hardware options that appeal to me too.

    • @drz400sy8
      @drz400sy8 11 месяцев назад

I kind of get what your saying. I use Synology and have a standard process for storing photos/videos and the customization really does not come into play for me. I know where all my photos and and videos are and if they are not there I am not tracking them in case things get moved or delete. If I understand your post correctly.
