Not only was Rush drummer Neil Peart a childhood role model for the singer before he traded in drums for a mic and PA, the acrobatic drummer's obsession with motorcycles is one shared by Godsmack's frontman. So, when Erna read Peart's book, "Ghost Rider" -- which is about his experiences hopping on a hog and road-tripping around the country to cope with the tragic loss of his daughter and wife -- the Godsmack singer was so blown away he wrote "Serenity" in tribute".

Godsmack has an amazing tendency to produce music that blends the human voice with instrumental acoustics to create a mesmerizing, unified sound that is the equivalent of an auditory orgasm. Voodoo was the first I'd heard from them many years ago and I was hooked. Sully's lyrics are thought-provoking and his voice is perfectly controlled to compliment the musical score instead of being in competition with it like other artists. I feel this deep in the recesses of my brain. It's known that classical music can stimulate neurons and this does as well.

This song is about Addiction. --and getting sober. VOODOO to me, is about Addiction--specifically heroin--but I believe ANY addiction. I am blessed to have 9 1/2 years sober--and these two songs keep it real for me. Addiction sucks --the only reason I am not a heroin addict is I didn't "get to it"....an addict is an addict. ODAAT
this song is not about addiction, it is a tribute to the drummer from the band RUSH. His daughter and wife were killed in a accident. He rode a motorcycle over fifty thousand miles in one year to clear his head instead of killing himself over the loss of his two ladies. Sully says this on one of their videos, watch " an evening with GODSMACK" it's just over an hour long. let me know if you find it. have a great day.

Sully Erna has a voice like no other & Godsmack is amazing. I can close my eyes and become totally absorbed in this song. It's one of the few things that helps me relax when my anxiety is out of control. Thank you Sully and the rest of the band! You have no idea how much your music means to me. ♥️
