There are two schools of though on the northstar metrics, some people advice doing it before hand subjectively, like this video creator did, others recommend defining, after you have identified the persona and their value adding actions. I prefer the second as then you can find something that appeals to all persona
Hi Kevin. Thanks for the informative video! I have a confusion about providing technical solutions to improve something or go with PM Route? How do we balance or which one should be specified during the interview. My background is data science model area, no practical knowledge about AB test.
Retention & Monetisation seem to be added in both the "In product metrics" & "Business metrics". While I understand they're relevant in both the places, isn't that repetition? One of the way to look at might be - Retention in product metrics might be just the usage of app, while in business be actual order repeat. But monetisation would be difficult do differentiate like that. What's your take?
I have the same question as you. It does seem repetitive. My suggestion is to present all the key metrics throughout the funnel and then mention the guardrail metrics at the end. Hope Kevin can provide some clarification on this.😀
