      There are a few suggestions for how to learn Mandarin
      Decide precisely why you want to learn it
      Try to use Chinese everyday
      Decide what method works for you best.
      (I learned about these and more from Magic mandarin blueprint website )

      ***** 一点 (yī diǎn) and 一点儿 (yī diǎn r) mean the same thing! 一点儿 (yī diǎn r)is short for (yī diǎn ér). The "r" sound comes from the northern accent, like the one spoken in Beijing. Many times when northern Chinese people say words that normally end with the letter "n", they may add the 儿 (r) sound to the end. It's optional to add the 儿 (r), you may just say "yī diǎn".

    • @littlemonsterdelrey

      ***** Please answer me on this questio, 'cause i really need it. How would i say on chinese: "I can speak a little bit japanese." Or some other language? Like "I can speak a little bit korean" I really don't know how to say other states on chinese, and it's creating problem for me right there, beacuse i am not from Asia at all, and i'm currenly learning japanese and chinese beacuse i want to meet people from Asia, i love your culture, languages, music, and tv show. :3

    • @YoyoChinese
      @YoyoChinese  9 лет назад +3

      Stefan Alien "I can speak a little..." is "我会说一点儿 (wǒ huì shuō yì diǎn (r)...)", then you add the name of the language to the end. Japanese language = 日语 (rì yǔ) , Korean language = 韩语 (hán yǔ).

    Actually, "can" in: Can I use the bathroom? is incorrect. My English teacher in 12th grade would answer that question with "I don't know. Can you?" It should be: May I use the bathroom? The two "can(s)" in your sentences ARE the same ( a learned skill ). I'm picking at nits here, of course. Your videos are awesome and like other below, I love your presentations. I have done A LOT of Language Exchange.

    • @davidryon6820

      @@Tinyflower1 they should. But you’re right, the correct use of ‘may’ is fading, so now ‘can’ takes on more meanings, as posited in this video. ‘May’ is correct but the vernacular has many using ‘can’.

    Yangyang Cheng the character 文 is called language for country's language but you can also use 语 for saying chinese language= 汉语,华语 or 普通话 can be used to say chinese language.

    • @ErinCMurphy1
      @ErinCMurphy1 7 лет назад

      They both refer to language, though 文 also can mean culture. I've seen 语 used in 汉语 (Han Yu = the language of the Han people), but I have not seen it with the character 中 (short for China). I have also hear 台语 to describe the Taiwanese Hokkien language.

    The problem is that 会 usually means "will" or "going to". So 我会说一点中文 can often be understood as "I am going to speak a little Chinese". To avoid this problem, I now say 我能说一点中文 where 能 means "can" or "have the ability to".

      You are right. 点, when in the phrase like 一点, end with an "r" sound. The N-R shift is common in modern Mandarin for convenience's sake. And in the written form, 儿 is added to signify the shift. Examples bound: 有点儿, 玩, 花篮。

    • @josanda7368

      i live in tianjin. it’s common in northern dialects to have the r sound at the end. in tianjin, they also have an er sound. like my name in pinyin is pa te but most people, including my wife, say pa te’r

    Why does "dian" (in yidian) get the "r" sound at the end? Is it a matter of accent, or do all native Mandarin speakers pronounce it like that?
    Thanks

    • @thefalconflame
      @thefalconflame 10 лет назад +3

      It's beijing accent.

    • @helenahe1474
      @helenahe1474 10 лет назад +2

      Most of Chinese people from Northern part say it.

    • @chocoboblue99
      @chocoboblue99 10 лет назад +3

      Correct. It's purely an accent sound. The "r" is optional, so I won't say it because I don't want to sound like a northern chinese person.

      irpacynot it is fine to use the 儿 character at the end but if you don't want to, you don't have to but it is suggested to read as 一点儿 (yi diar)

      irpacynot I'm from Taiwan and we don't add the "r" sound.

    When I was in Taiwan about 2 weeks ago, I was asked by one of the locals if I can speak in Chinese and I replied, "一点点" Was that correct?

    Actually it’s “May I use the bathroom”. Please don’t think I’m criticizing. When my children ask me if they can use the bathroom. I explained to them that when they use the word can, it’s a capability question, as opposed to permission.

      +Clatical Last You can say it with or with the (r). You are correct that they are the same pinyin. But the words 点 (diǎn) and 电 (diàn) have different tones and characters. Thanks for your comment!

    Out of curiosity, do you prefer simplified or traditional Chinese Characters? I'm learning Japanese so I prefer the Traditional Characters mostly, but I'd like to hear what you prefer Ms. Yangyang.
