"Do we have everything to do this job?" --- "Well, it's not a Caterpillar shop, and we don't have everything we want, but we do have what we need." This is how a lot of us get it done and I'm glad you posted this video. Hopefully, it'll inspire other guys to jump in on their own projects like this. As I was watching you fight with those shims, I was thinking to myself... "Dude needs a port-a-power to ease that pressure just a few thou." and then BAM !! it appears... Great job and fun video. Respect from Georgia! - Cujo
@@ASGDirtworx thanks . Yeah it was a struggle but there was no way I was giving up. I know some people can’t do it because they don have a torch or press to use . I feel if your going to own equipment like this you gotta at least own a torch. Then you could cut them out an sledgehammer in me ones Mabe . That’s how I’ve done some before. It’s just harder. Thanks fo watching!
The easiest way I've found to get shims in place with new pins is to use the old pin from the other side and work the old pin out with the new pin, shimming as you pass through the joints.
Well done, this kind of thing is always a lot of work! I always hammer bushings and pins with large sockets, never used a small punch like you were doing but is seemed to work. I made a 1/2" square end on a old crow bar for mounting the sockets that i don't mind hammering as i got sick of messing up extensions, haha.
@@villageearthwright yeah I did another pin and bushings last month and made a nice lager handle punch . I gotta get a new air chisel because they work real good . Thanks for the watching!
Also if you have an air chisel it works faster hammering out the bushing. Mine was broke at the time of videoing.
Thanks for taking time to film, explain, and post!
