This is the best aiming guide I've ever seen: you covered things that never would have occurred to me to even consider, and the editing and showing your hands contrasted with the in-game movements that they produce was very helpful. You were also incredibly well-organized: the flow of your thoughts was very sensible and coherent. Very well done!

Particles set to 4 in the INI makes muzzle smoke disappear. Infantry render quality is how well infantry models appear so their limbs won't warp around so you can track them.

Awesome video! This is the first planetside 2 video I've seen which provides an indepth look at the FPS mechanics and how it relates to planetside 2 specifically.
Also appreciate how you provide a framework of how to improve your aim and provide a reasoning as to how and why it's important.
I'm not the best at FPS mechanics, but am excited to try the suggestions from your video!
P.S. I always get excited when I see you rez me on the battlefield ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

Thanks for the kind words 😀 yeah I noticed no one in ten years had put out a deeper guide on this topic, and a lot of guides on fps in general only ever focus in on one part without looking at the bigger picture. Also, remember if I rez u it means it's gamertime so get on point!

Thanks. I now get at least 2 kills per alert, and all after I made a small adjustment to the position of my anime body pillow. Amazing

There is a really important aspect about FOV that you missed in your discussion. Playing on high FOV actually helps you to aim more accurately. Kovaaks published an excellent video on the topic that revolutionised my understanding of it.
Another point that they bring up there that is worth thinking about for PlanetSide is maintaining a consistent 'pixels of movement per inch' between your regular, aimed, and scoped sensitivities. The goal is that no matter what you are doing, an arm movement of a particular size should result in a consistent number of pixels moved. This is infinitely more useful than a consistent 'inches per 360' across your different scopes. As I understand it, each weapon scope is actually 0.35x more zoomed than advertised. So a 1x scope actually reduces your FOV by a factor of 1.35 and a 2x scope by 2.35. With a bit of maths and some other tools, you can probably work out what ratio your sensitivities need to be at to make your preferred scopes work.

Mind sharing the details? I mentioned that recoil is much less apparent at higher fov which can really matter. Lower fov becomes very detrimental unless you are working with really far ranges and absolutely need headshots. There is definitely a sweet spot for everyone though where going higher hurts. The 105 footage in most of these clips is past that point for 99% of folks. I've moved down to 90 and it's had a dramatically positive effect (although playing at 105 for so long has made me very smooth with my aim (heads are larger and I am used to not overcompensating as much for recoil).

@@ApolloPS2 It has to do with the way changing your character's angle affects the number of pixels your crosshair moves. I don't think I can explain it as well as Kovaaks did. It is a short video, just 3 minutes, long. If you search for 'Kovaaks FOV' it should be the first result.

    • @ApolloPS2

Just watched that video. This is kind of the argument of which do you balance around first, comfort or performance? I recommend finding a comfortable fov for you before setting sensitivity when dialing in your "machine". This is geared toward maximizing the performance over longer play sessions.
Kovaaks in his video is framing the issue as setting your sensitivity before your fov, which imo is not a good idea as it is dialing in for raw performance right off the bat without giving importance to comfort first. In reality you can get the best of both worlds with aiming because you have so many variables to play with 😀

@@ApolloPS2 I think the point I would take is that, in the same way that a lower sensitivity (for most people) will give you better performance in the long run, higher FOV will give you better performance in the long run. In both cases, you should only move slowly, and only change one element of the machine at a time. In the case of FOV, this actually means changing your sensitivity to match the pixels per inch of your old FOV whenever you increase it.

@@96samcosmo yeah that makes sense, keep your muscle memory to help adjust visually. In the end different strategies are going to work for different people. My research has focused on what principles are common among those who are successful, since pro gamers are weird and find success in a ton of different ways, many of which won't help the average player.

25:40 - this indicator also counts hits to light vehicles (flash, harasser, esf... all those can be damaged by small arms damage), terminals. My statistics says that my tanto's accuracy is better then 98% of all players(accuracy rank - S) while other carbines/ARs/SMGs is about 25-50% (accuracy rank - C/B). I wondered why - that is because i usually try to destroy hacked terminals with tanto and then repair it again. Those hits are also counts. So my tanto's HitsPerKill says i make 20+ shots to kill an enemy

I slowly lowered my sensitivity and with my set up I am doing better at 0.06 but I may lower a little more. the thing I can't seem to get down is consistent crosshair placement , I am going to work on that.

    • @ApolloPS2
      @ApolloPS2  Год назад

Idk what ur dpi is but in general if it isn't above 1600 I'd say ur right that it's time to prioritize crosshair placement. I'm in the same boat with 0.09 @ 800 dpi

Ideally wait until october/november when the dev team has some time to fix current spawn system. If you are either visiting it now or leaving forever, though, definitely check it out now - planetmans is still fun as hell if you understand the scale means you need to keep track of where enemies can be. If you do, be sure to check out the other video mentioned at the beginning and end of this one - good relatively quick guide on how to avoid common pitfalls new players fall into.

The specific mechanic pieces? Likely not. The general thought process though should be applicable regardless of the tool you use.
