    you should focus on your pop up mate. a fast and precise pop up its the key that unlocks everything else.keep your eyes on the wall the whole time before and during the stand up. check your feet position and try to move it around further or backwards to find the proper balance and distribution on the board it will make a ton of difference. congrats for your effort. greetings from Indonesia.

      Awesome comments and insights. Rob case stuff on catching a wave is priceless. I’ve been spending loads of time on the takeoff as I didn’t even know if jumping up or doing a “crab crawl” up was better, let alone all the different factors that going into catching a wave and the different options. But it’s pretty clear to that starting well and making the most of all the energy the waves has to offer is key, so having good fundamentals for popping up and understanding where to the catch the wave and what the goal is are invaluable.
      Thanks again for the input, you’ll see a future video all on another trip to Switzerland where close feet, bad pop ups and loads of mistakes are shared.
      Hope you get some sick waves in info 💪

    You need to get your front foot further forward so you have control of the front of the board, then you can start to surf on rail ,rather than just on the fins with your back foot.

    • @averagejoe6355
      @averagejoe6355  3 года назад

      Yep, watching their stuff already, think it’s great. Some of their stuff really clicked about the pop up / takeoff. They also referenced this paddle expert guy who is super interesting. He has his stuff on RUclips. Sounds so stupid but didn’t know you couldn’t paddle as fast as a wave and that gravity is key too. Some of this stuff is so simple when the right words are said and it connects. Been positioning myself in a different spot for the takeoffs and it’s so much easier. Credit to the content discussing it all!

    Great vid man ! I'm about to book a slot at Alaia and hesitating between Advanced and Expert. Looking at it, I have the level for expert waves but I would probably fall on the take-off about 30-40% of the time (long time without surfing, wetsuit, etc). I was thinking of booking Advanced and maybe coming back a month later for Expert. But advanced looks pretty weak in terms of power, what do you think? Thanks !!!!

    • @averagejoe6355
      @averagejoe6355  3 года назад

      The advanced wave at Alaia is really good. It is really hard to explain but the waves are different between the waves pools, the shape at take off and how they break are slightly different. In general, nothing to do with your situation, it seems reducing the pressure for the first surf is a really good thing as it’s so easy to think that the wave is small / doesn’t pack a punch / or that your normal level in the sea is the only thing to consider. There are so many things to deal with on your first session and nothing is more frustrating then starting to miss waves and have a bad session (I’ve had loads and had one back in August at Alaia when I went back to film there).

    Top stuff - quite interesting how it seems people are more "friendly/encouraging" when paying for waves v's "free ones" in the sea - Sascha from zero ego instagram has more tips that also seem to come from others in the pool

    • @mikehitchen4487
      @mikehitchen4487 3 года назад +1

      @@averagejoe6355 I think both have their benefits - Wave is a bit more "pressured" and "shorter" in terms of time on the wave ( or at least it seems to be) where as Snowdonia once you get the direction to paddle seems to have a lot more space to turn - possibly Wave is more like a beach break and snowdonia like a point - but then again what do I know other than that if I had the means I would have either in the back yard - one other very similar things is both sets of staff are super friendly and not precious as can be the case at some out door places which I like a lot!
