Great video 15:56 the only time I remember this concept is during Book 2 Earth: Episode 4. It has the same view of facing the truth, with some alternations. Instead of the fox Sokka met up with the Northern Water Tribe Princess, Katara did meet her mother again. Here Aang met up in Koh (which in the animated was in Book Water: Episode 20), but in Book 2 Earth: Episode 4 he briefly saw Toph, and that is how he learned he needed to find her. Zuko and Iroh’s Story seemed based on Book Water: Episode 15 where they met June and Nayla. While Aang, Katara, Sokka’s Story seemed to ne based on Book Water episode 7 where they found a destroyed village and met the monster form of Hei Bai (the Panda), which could have been reference with the bear statue before they entered the spirit realm. But the introduce of Wan Shi Tong (The Owl) was in Book Earth Episode 30, instead of Book Water.
I don't see why you guys have an issue with him showing it up in one place in instant transmission when the Nickelodeon show was like that too. And the reason Aang is going to the fire Nation is to talk to Roku at his statue to ask him how to defeat ko. Even though Ang hasn't done any other bending training he has to do them in order from water to earth to fire.
I still can't believe they showed Wan Shi Tong already. Also, the Aang and Gyatso scene is so good. This adaption really did a good job in diving deeper in showcasing their relationship. Gyatso waited a 100 years to see the friend he loved before he could move on. That's so amazing and tragic.
@@mighty_cff9341but in the show they met birdie in the library, and they go to the library for the eclipse calendar, but they already have the eclipse calendar at the end of eps 8, so i doubt we will have the library eps and met birdie again
Thank you all for these comments. I’m sooo new to this series and your comments have helped me with the show 😅👍. I really did enjoy this show and I hope it comes back for Season 2.
@@FGOboi Yeah but they can meet again ofc why would they spent the budget on designing him if he wont show up later on all that stuff with the eclipse will still happen
the people in the earth kingdom pub were referencing episodes from the original show when they mentioned pirates and the canyon guide! great Easter egg
I think Aang can’t focus on learning the other disciplines because he has so much to reconcile with re: his absence. It’s a mental block that he has to overcome before he can do anything else. He didn’t leave them in the spirit world for nothing, he has a mission to save them. And yes I love that we jumped into the episode, we don’t need the minutiae of Sokka romancing a fire nation warrior - it’s so great that we fill in the details with our imagination. We don’t need to be spoon fed.
I think Aang's arc has a few factors that make his solo air bending intentional. He tells Katara that Gyatso was the only teacher he knew, and the only avatar he's encountered just took over and yelled at him, and wasnt a teacher. He also admits he never listened to regular teachers. To me it seems like he's always been so advanced that he expects to have a master as a mentor-teacher to just tell him what to do, and his lack of acting towards a solution is a reflection of his immaturity since part of his arc is he's literally still a kid who hasn't grown up.
it also fits him running from his problems instead of facing them just like in the cartoon, while also fitting the shorter episode span for the adaptation, with the time jump between the seasons, they can have him evolve in the water bending, much like he did between season one and two with katara, and incorporate other personal plots for him
The mention of Sokka getting into trouble with a girl from the fire nation is there to show that time has passed. They don’t have to give us every minute of their lives and journey. We just know Sokka briefly dated a fire nation girl so a week or so likely happened between episodes but was mostly uneventful. Katara probably practiced and got better at bending in that time. I don’t have to see all of it to realize it occurred.
Agreed. I don’t think that by mentioning little things that we didn’t see it means that they’re “rushing” like how other people feel. They’re just giving us little tid bits for watchers to build a better understanding of each character
I see why they did what they did and think the spirit world and the past avatars will (obviously) play a much bigger role in the live action... Assuming they get the other two seasons :(
Katara's mom did indeed say she was the waterbender to protect Katara, but the difference here is that she witnessed it vs the man who killed her mom telling her that when she confronts him. Probably too intense for the cartoon to say she witnessed it....and I get what you mean about the moment with Gyatso and it hitting harder if Aang had seen a vision of their deaths, but the reason he didn't was because he didn't actually witness it, and the fog plays off of your memories. He then was able to resist the fog similar to how Tenzin does in LOK. I did say something to similar to my bf last night about Aang's motivation flip-flopping between saying "I'm the Avatar and I'm here to save the world!" And then putting off practicing waterbending...it feels inconsistent, but he is at least trying to assist people and offer his aid.
I think it’s trauma blocking him from learning a new bending style. The same thing that Katara went through with her memories of her mom, that Jet and her resolved (somehow) Aang has this weird notion in his head that he can’t learn from anyone other than Gyatso. He doesn’t want to share that mentor trainee connection with anyone other than Gyatso (which is a weak excuse not to make an effort to learn waterbending, but they are on a time limit here so they didn’t give any time to it)
Aang got snappy at the North Pole when trying to go to the spirit world not in this episode in the show. Sokka went into the spirit world but he didn’t travel with aang. Katara never went into the spirit world in the show. Aang never brought them with him. They combined all The spirit elements of the first season in one episode which makes sense because of pacing and budget.
Thank you cause my brain wouldn’t shut up about there being differences and this episode I struggled with it the most. I liked the other episodes and their differences, they made sense in the way they were going. I loved the spirit world look here, but was the owl in season 1 cause I remember it being in the library with togh, but I don’t remember it earlier, in hindsight I’m thinking it’s maybe ground work to build trust with it, but I guies his reveal he shook me up a little. But yh I think them all going into the spirit world and then aang leaving on his own is abrupt. If he and katara went in think it would’ve worked better, then aang and sokka having to go off on their own to the fire nation, and getting separated there would’ve worked better for the characters development, aang and sokka being less close having that bonding, of having the weight of leading and looking after others, then us seeing sokkas past would fit in more in that scene, help us see aang actually struggling with his emotions, it’s why that snap was strange here, they need to show aang more stressed about how long things are taking and how much he has to do, we saw none of that but he’s snapping now. I’ve liked what they’ve done so far but this was the weakest episode when it comes to the main trio, very unorganised in the ways that matter🤔 imo
@@jessimarim_m9387 yeah I think them adding the hakoda thing was different. It could have just been Katara in aang as they are more spiritual and this could later link to iroh being able to go to the spirit realm on his own. You also have Sokka being less spiritual and more tied to the material realm of things.
One of the differences in this show, is Aang doesn't know Sozin's Comet is coming back. He plans to save the world, but he doesn't feel any kind of time pressure to do so. Usually, the Avatar isn't told that they are the Avatar until they are 16 years old, and then they start their training. They spend a few years learning each element, and become a fully realised Avatar by the age of 25 - 30 (I believe Roku was 28 when he mastered all 4 elements, after a 12 year journey). Aang, in this show, has no reason to think he should do it any faster. Plus, the other Avatars, for the most part, didn't have to deal with a war *while* they were training. It was easier for them to just go to the other nations and train with master's who were waiting for them. Aang has to find masters and then ask them to train him, while dealing with the war too. For now, he is focused on saving the Northern Water Tribe, because there is an immediate threat. I'm sure he will focus on the other elements a lot more when he learns about the comet.
Your right about the friendship between Aang and his "Friends" feels a little unearned but rember in the cartoon they had a bunch of "Filler ep" to create this while the show seems to be more GO GO GO get this in 8 ep.
One thing this show does well, it will hit the feels. I am rewatching this as your reaction and the scene with aang and gatsyo still makes my eyes watery.
In something like the second or third episode there was a mention of "three months ago". There is a lot of time passing that we don't get any indication of.
In the Heibai episode of the cartoon, Sokka (along with the villagers) get pulled into the spirit world by Heibai. So yes, Sokka does go to the spirit world. Katara did not however. She stayed with the villagers while Aang went into the spirit world to get Sokka and the villagers... and then met Koh and Roku's dragon who took his spirit to Avatar Roku's temple where he learned that he could speak to Roku on the solstice. In ATLA, yes, the FIre Nation was aware that there was a waterbender in the Southern Water Tribe but they were not sure who it was. It played out similar to what we see here --- Katara does confirm later on that her mom sacrificed herself to save her --- but in the cartoon, Katara was not witness to it. She got to their home after it happened. No, their mom was not actually a bender - she just pretended to be one to save Katara. He's going to Roku's temple to talk to Roku to find out how to defeat Koh because Gyatso told him that Roku had tussled with Koh and won. Right now, that's all he has to go on to save them. This arc was definitely not as fleshed out as it should be. I don't disagree with the choices and changes made but it's rough. As for not learning the other bending - he doesn't really start to learn the other bending until the end of season 1 in ATLA. If it's been awhile since you've seen the show, you might not remember it well. He picks up a couple waterbending moves with Katara maybe mid-way through s1 but doesn't truly learn until they get to the Northern Water Tribe where he becomes a student of Master Pakku in the last 2 episodes of ATLA. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the elements need to be learned in the same order as the cycle - Water - Earth - Fire - Air... this is the order he learns them in ATLA - water at end of s1, earth in s2 after meeting Toph, and fire in s3 after Zuko abandons his father's reign and becomes Aang's teacher. So he's not really far of course of how things develop in ATLA. Remember, they went on a bunch of side-quests in between finding Masters to teach him bending. So in terms of pacing with the bending, we're still ok. At this point, anyway. We'll see how season 2 plays out. But I agree, they really needed to flesh out his motivations here so that we understand more about why he's so reluctant to start learning waterbending. 39:20 I mean, that's kinda what happened in ATLA. When Katara is trying to teach him - prior to Master Pakku - Aang easily creates a giant wave while Katara is still struggling with a small one -- leading to Katara being really jealous of Aang and then Aang explaining that of course it comes easy to him - he's The Avatar and he's already learned waterbending in his previous lives. So, if the show does go that route, it's not going to be all that different from ATLA. The only bending Aang actually struggled with in ATLA was Earthbending - because it's the complete opposite of his birth element, Air. Water and Fire are relatively easy for him because Water flows similar to Air and like Air, has a strong spiritual competent. And Fire relies on Air so that was fairly easy for him as well once he learned to not fear it. Earth however is solid and doesn't flow so it was a struggle for him.
Actually Aang doesn't meet Koh until he's made it to the Northern Water Tribe looking for the Moon Spirit, which is when Roku warns Aang about Koh before Aang talks to Koh.
@@patricksocha6930 Thanks for the correction! Yep, now that I think about it, that is when he meets Koh because Roku and Aang have a conversation about him.
Katara called him out earlier for avoiding learning bending bc he is avoiding taking the full responsibility of being the avatar. He also mentioned that training reminds him of Gyatso.
Fun fact: the people in the bar that are talking about how they heard of the avatar are all mentioning events that happened in episodes that weren’t included in the live action signaling to the fans that some of these events are still happening off screen which I thought was a very cool detail they added in 😊
I really enjoy how they're making changes to tie in several short episodes to fit the Netflix hour-long format. Probably one of the biggest risks they took but it paid off really well for telling the story their way while keeping the overall themes of the OG intact. can't wait to see how season 2 goes with a higher budget and fewer episodes to cram into a season
I saw a comment elsewhere that raises a good point: Aang doesn't know he needs to be in a hurry to learn waterbending, because they don't know about Sozin's Comet returning. In the animated series they learn this from Roku, but this adaptation even withholds that information from the audience until later. I agree it robs Aang of some of his development, and moments where we get to see him learn and grow in his abilities instead of working to heal emotional trauma. But it is at least internally consistent with how the show handles the character and what he knows. I'm still gonna be mildly annoyed if Season 2 begins with him having learned waterbending off-camera.
The shocked realisation with the ‘he’s of age?’ when Sokka is too cute 😂. I made fun of a friend saying the actor is probably like 17 but luckily Ian is 22 or something 😅. And then the part admiring the “acting” of the Lady xdd I think what’s also a thing is that scenes are following each up very quickly.
I think they want you to be a bit disconnected from Aang because his only friend is dead. He’s suddenly found himself alienated. Just wait, I think they’re building on the Bumi’s lesson / concern, that Aang hasn’t confronted sacrifice and loss properly. The problem I see with developing Aang too quick is that he will become stagnant.
This may be a weird thing to say but you both look great!!! I know Greg has been going hard for the last couple of years but Olivia seemingly has been on a fitness journey as well.
I knew it! The spirit of Knowledge is voiced by Randall Duk Kim! Now that I think about it, Grandmaster Oogway exists in the spirit realm and the spirit of knowledge lives in the, well… spirit realm?
Because the library is related to sozin comet (one year, they can't use that) and the fact that they honour the original they brought the owl here for the fans and they couldn't/ wouldn't use the sucking on frozen frogs they changed it to hostage which is cool
I think Aang is the comfort and when tells everyone it's going to be okay he's also talking to himself. And I think his positivity is supposed to show his character like how he chooses not to hate and to always try and do the good option. I do hate that he doesn't learn waterbending
Greg I think nailed what was itching at the back of my mind as I watched this and that was not entirely believing the connection between Team Avatar. Not the actors’ fault and entirely on the writing in my opinion. That being said, “it was not your fault” was a moment where I actually started to tear up. Guess the weight of all the angry guilt tripping, beating a dead horse as all the dialogue around that is, got to me 😂😂 The writers clearly love the Fire Nation because the development of those characters and their relationship are the richest and most interesting (at least for me). I too enjoy this twist on Asuka and the way the rivalry between her and Zuko is being portrayed. Whole heartedly agree on the critique of Aang and his bending journey (or lack thereof) and how one note they have written his character. It is quite painful at times and compiled with how polished and well trained (as in hits all his marks and knows what and when he should do x) the actor is… does take a little charm away from Aang. I still think his casting is great and I can feel Aang WANTING to come out… but like Katara too, the writing is not giving him the right tools to make the character shine.
I don't usually watch the commentary after shows like literally ever when you guys do them(sorry😂) but I've watched every after show commentary for this series
@@Banz20 I did more research, was mistaken when filming actually started. Announced 2018 but didn’t start filming until 2021. You are correct he was 18 or 19 already!
the reason why the fire nation was looking for the waterbender in katara's tribe was because Hama escaped fire nation prison so they thought she'd be in the southern water tribe because she came from there
They actually hunted the waterbenders because they believed that Aang had already died and they were looking for the next Avatar who would be born into the water tribe.
I don’t get why they made Katara advance with her bending so quickly. It’s been a long time since I’ve watch the original, but I don’t remember her feeling so much like a Mary Sue lol I know there are less episodes but still. She’s so advanced at this point in the show that I don’t understand why she doesn’t start helping Aang now lol And then get to expert level after they get to the north. I still like the character and enjoy the show for the most part, but this part was a bit distracting and makes her arch feel lesser.
I do think they took an opportunity to both drop Easter eggs but also foreshadow some characters and stories. I think they’re doing that so they can reduce time in subsequent seasons
As someone who hasn't seen the anime, the episode did seem a wacky in terms of pacing. While some of your points I don't have as much issue with, such as the time skip not working and Aang being a weak character, a lot of them I do agree. The development between the friendship of the main trio does need to made stronger and there is some repetitive dialogue. I also think Aang going to the fire nation does strain the credibility of the danger the other two are in A LOT. Some things I did like was the horror aspects, the conversation with Gyatso, and the flashbacks. Plus the creatures were really cool. Overall this was probably the weakest episodes with some different high points that weren't in the other ones. I hope the dialogue for Aang improves cuz he's a great actor. I've heard episode 6 and onward are the best so I'll see what happens.
Katara's mom was not a waterbender. The point of that scene was not only that Katara's mom died, but that Katara bent the water that the soldier noticed...so not only did her mom get burned to death, she feels like it is her fault for bending the water in front of the soldier.
Hakota never talked bad about Sokka or doubted him as far as we know of in the animated series. This makes me think that even thought he can fight some what as a warrior he will lean more into his engineering side.
They aren’t just condensing Aang’s plot points, they’re giving them to other characters. The cave lights plot was Katara and Aang in the animated series. Aang also has knowledge of the Spirit World that feels unearned. He explains it with a line later in the episode, but it feels like the script trying too hard to move the plot forward. Same with how he immediately knows the creature is the spirit of the forest just from the scar on its face. There’s no buildup, he doesn’t try to reason with it, doesn’t have to fight it, just immediately knows what it is.
By this time aang was practicing water bending here he hasn’t touched a drop for real. The forest spirit hei bai here!!!! There was a wolf spirit in the spirit world but it was giant in the background. There were also fox spirits at the library episode but they never talk they aided wan shi tong the owl spirit who name means he who knows 10 thousand things
My goodness do you just come into the comments just complaining about everything about the show that you didn't like and making constant comparisons. Why are you even watching these reactions if you seemed to hate the show so freaking much?
@@Mads97415 not complaining just pointing out differences. I think it’s cool what they are doing with the story. But if you are a fan you notice oh I like how they did the because of blah blah reason. Whether it’s for depth in a character or change it for budget sake.
Oh I get it I get it if you guys don’t remember I know it’s a lot of episodes to the last Airbender, but there was an episode called the fortuneteller I thinkGayto is taking the place of the fortuneteller there, combining a bunch of different elements of the show into this one episode but yes, I think Gayto is taking the place of the fortuneteller
Love the reaction. You said Sokka's story isn't as tragic compared to Katara, don't forget that was his mother too. Yes it's horrific but they both lost their mom that day. To see that Sokka also lost the respect of his other parent. It really hits home when we catch up with them in the series, practically all the adults are gone. Just the kids. I love the way they are adaptingnall these stories in the show!
This is the only episode I had some questions and nit picks…I mean it ultimately makes sense somewhat and will make senses in the future. But I think they did lose me for a second during this one. I didn’t exactly question meeting Wan Shi Tong but was slightly confused wondering what they are going to do. I did question why Aang hasn’t learned any water bending by this point. Was confused why they had to make things so sped up. But ultimately was not taken out of it by any means.
I actually think the way they combined all the spirit world things into 1 episode was really smart because it makes the spirit world feel more like a world with its own creatures. It's been a while so i can't fully remember but i think the animated show only showed like 1 creature every time Aang went in the sprit world. And i don't think this is the last we see if the owl spirit cause he doesn't show up till a later season in the animated show. And earlier in the show Katara offered to have Aang train with her and he said he had only ever had 1 teacher and wasn't comfortable with training with her.
Really enjoying watching these reactions with you two. Because you both loved the original so much, it's great to hear your opinions of this one. I feel the same about Aang. I don't find him as interesting as most of the other characters. I'm more vested in Zuko and Iroh's story than the main character. Those two actors are phenomenal in the role. Still, I'm enjoying it. Can't wait to see your next reaction.
I suspect the lack of knowledge of the built-in time limit by way of Sozin's comet is a developmental tactic on how they mature both Aang and Gordon himself as an actor. I don't have any proof of this, obviously, it could just be bad writing/pacing, which this season most certainly suffers from at times. But from a production standpoint, letting Gordon and the younger cast grow into their roles a bit under the assumption they're getting a second season could be a purposeful delay. Funnily enough, I often see new reactors to the animated show sort of confused on why Aang is so happy-go-lucky and reckless all the time in season 1 considering what happened to him, his heavier moments don't really come to fruition until season 2. Similarly, Katara's darker aspects caught many by complete surprise in season 3. It's almost like they're going in reverse order on their character developments, again whether this is intentional or just bad writing remains to be seen. I've personally decided to reserve judgement until I see (assuming we get to see) the payoffs down the road. This could just be wishful thinking on my part, but I catch glimpses of seeds planted here and there that make me think there is in fact long-term thought given to the choices and omissions in this version. A remix and not a remake, if you will, which is not inherently bad as there is little point in just making a 1:1 copy of an already beloved series (looking at you, Disney.) Only time will tell, I suppose. I will be the first to insert my foot into my mouth if I get disappointed by trying to keep an open mind.
@ReelRejects: I am a big ALTA fan. Enjoyed and loved the Netflix live action and enjoying both of your reactions! Regarding "Aang" falling flat, I think it is difficult to get a child actor who can balance Aang's light-heartedness, wisdom, and age with the weight of a genocide. I think they are focusing on taking his lightheartedness and age for now and have him growing into responsibility and learning to sacrifice, before they let him get into a more mature role and learn bending. Through Katara they established that emotional blocks can affect bending especially water bending.
As how I heard through other channels leading up to the show from even with a first announced that they were gonna make the show that they were going to refocus a little more with the other characters and build up flesh out their characters a little bit more I agree so far in this first season and is coming off as the sacrificial lamb for the other characters. I am hoping that they notice this and second season third season, or however, many seasons, to complete the rest of the story that they flesh out his character more OK thanks
You guys seem to be forgetting that he has to learn all of the elements, but he has to learn them in a specific order. Granted, he should be studying water bending with Katara, but he can't look for an earth bender until he's learned water bending. Right now, there's no point in him even trying to find an earth bending teacher. Or fire bending teacher, for that matter. Air, then Water, then Earth, and then Fire. Honestly, I don't like the way that they're hurrying to the Northern water tribe so that AAng can "save them" and finding a water bending teacher is more of an afterthought. Katara might be learning herself, but she could still help him learn the basics. Aang said that he was going to do what the monks had wanted of him, learn the other elements and become the Avatar but he isn't really even looking for a teacher for the first element yet. He hasn't changed a bit from when he first woke up, in the respect. He's not avoiding ALL responsibility anymore, but he is still avoiding learning to control the true power of the Avatar. I'm getting a little tired of him doing that. Especially with only three episodes left in this season.
Wan shi tong spoke to Sokka and Katara in the show. There they could understand and communicate with him. By the end of the winter soldiers part 1 aang has changed hei bais mind and he relinquished all the villagers.
I think one thing that bothered me most was that they didn't ACTUALLY help the forest like they did in the show. The bear spirit isn't shown that the forest WILL regrow which is what causes the forest spirit to calm down into a panda. That still bothers me that they just showed the spirit as its hurt form. It was the Forest spirit who took the people, not Ko. In the ENTIRETY of the episode HAYBI shows up once. Also Azula was kinda of weak in my opinion. Azula is batshit crazy, even when she was a kid. So to see her show emotions other than anger, disgust and discontent with how things are going was a bit weird. Azula was also not chained down by her father. We'll see how they take her character arc. Her blue flames not being a constant bothered me as well....
Man, this is the best review of an episode of show I’ve seen so far or I have something that I could I could try to give at least a relatively decent opinion on but now I am slowly understanding along with your commentary to inform me I believe what they are doing is unlike the animated show where each season dealt with a specific element training and it was just nothing but that so both season one was water bending everything was water bending in that one season two was earth bending everything was just nothing but earth bending season three was fire. Bending everything was nothing but fire. Bending, I think what they’re doing here is kind of sort of Mixing everything little pieces here a little pieces there without being specific to OK this is his water bending season. Everything here is based on water, bending and nothing else they’re mixing a lot of elements from a lot of different seasons and episodes understandably it’s it’s not really helping character and vomit and I can see that I can see it now when you guys are saying it, but hopefully second season they will learn from this season from what people feel and adjust to it at least that’s what I’m hoping
Hi Greg... arent you familiar with the actress who plays june? Its Arden Cho... and your brother Anthony has acted with her in a short film here in YT ... lols😂
They really did nail the casting in almost all aspects. Wan Shi Tong sounded incredible. It's a bit jarring to see him be a help to team avatar though.
I think the problem lies with they make only 8ep, while there should be like 2 more to show everything. I don’t know if they planned it or were given only this much episodes to deal with 😢
I think it’s good so far. Actually I have issues with Katara. And I thought I would have problems with Azula but she is great here. I do have a problem with what we’re focusing on and things we aren’t getting, but that’s the problem with trying to condense 20 episodes in an 8 episode seasons. Still can’t wait to finish it.
June was in an earth kingdom bar when Zuko and iron found her. They combined elements of the swamp episode with this one. That is when Katara thought she saw her mom. We however do not see toph like we saw in the animated series we see gyatso. Koi stole peoples faces if they showed expressions. I think he is just a monster here.
Well maybe them not showin Aang doing training is a reveal later stating how Aang doesnt want to have all that power , so he has been trying to avoid training. Idk. I love the animated version....it was looooong af tho so i dont remember everything just key moments. I feel they doing well so far and thats mainly due to the costume design , the fight choreo, the bending effects, cinema. I had a priblem w azula & zuko at first cuz their faces werent slim like the anime....then i said, "let me stop being overly critical & enjoy this plotline". I hope others will find room to enjoy this version. If you want the anime thats available to you

Yeah so weird to see Wan Shi Tong in book 1 lol I wonder how they’re going to do appa getting stolen then if he even does get stolen in this lol
@@RS-bn1tyi think they showed him as a tease for season 2
Yeah I got the same thing
I always forgot he was 12 in the original and seeing him like this makes so much more sense as a 12 year old
it also fits him running from his problems instead of facing them just like in the cartoon, while also fitting the shorter episode span for the adaptation, with the time jump between the seasons, they can have him evolve in the water bending, much like he did between season one and two with katara, and incorporate other personal plots for him
@@Jehphgit will give some time for Gordon(Aang's actor) to learn the martial arts of the other elements
"Hoot hoot, hoot. Hoot."

The voice cast for some of the creatures from George Takei to Randall Duk Kim just incredible for this show. Sulu and Keymaker!!!.
Sokka in live action, his name is Ian Ousley and he's 21... so yes, he's legal.
Man, they did Koh RIGHT in this series. He is TERRIFYINGLY creepy. 😰😰
Edit: Also, he's voiced by none other than George Takei!
Just watched Blue Eyed Samurai, George Takai is making moves out there!
George Takei also voiced the warden in book one of the animated series.

It makes no sense but okay go off 😂
Making him creepy doesnt = "right". His existence in the series is useless, he doesnt even explain to aang the koi fish.
Were you satisfied with the Spirit World adaptation?
I see why they did what they did and think the spirit world and the past avatars will (obviously) play a much bigger role in the live action... Assuming they get the other two seasons :(
Yes!!
Yeah I loved it especially the Kitara flashback
Yes, in my opinion, that was my favorite episode but that’s just me
Nah man ,
36:05 Aang left to speak to a previous Avatar to figure out how to deal with Koh.
“It’s not your fault” hit me like Robin Williams’ scene in Good Will Hunting!
“Look at me, ITS. NOT. YOUR. FAULT.” 🔥
Don't fuck with me, Gyatso...not you
Katara's mom did indeed say she was the waterbender to protect Katara, but the difference here is that she witnessed it vs the man who killed her mom telling her that when she confronts him.
37:18 THIS!!! EXACTLY MY FEELING!! why doesn't he at least ATTEMPT to learn another bending instead of constantly repeating: "i don't what am i doing"
if he did that then there goes half the storyline from book 2 and book 3😂😂😂😂😂 like HELLLOOOO????
Talking about water here, chill babe. @@PawiYT
@@DragunnitumGaming Be more specific, honey
I think it’s trauma blocking him from learning a new bending style. The same thing that Katara went through with her memories of her mom, that Jet and her resolved (somehow)
Aang has this weird notion in his head that he can’t learn from anyone other than Gyatso.
They combined all
The spirit elements of the first season in one episode which makes sense because of pacing and budget.
Literally doesn't matter
@@summeronio9751 as far as the differences.. I guess not but I do like to acknowledge while comparing and contrasting
"Lets get rid of John and get a Momo" had me dying bruh
Aang didn't just abandon Sokka and Katara in the Spirit Realm; he went to Roku's shrine to find a way to defeat Koh and release them.
I think the whole thing with Koh the face stealer was if you make a facial expression he'll snatch yo face.
Yeah
Yup if you showed emotion he would attack
It's easier to tell in animation when someone is showing expression or not
One of the differences in this show, is Aang doesn't know Sozin's Comet is coming back.
Is it realy unearned, tho? They're pretty much in constant mortal peril together. That kind of situation build bonds fast.
One thing this show does well, it will hit the feels. I am rewatching this as your reaction and the scene with aang and gatsyo still makes my eyes watery.
My proud geek moment - noticing that the name Saka gave the doll was the name Aang used to get into Amashu.
i think by the time you finish the finale, the katara and aang bending situation kinda makes sense if they are writing her the way it appears.
"Is that a frog or a froggy thing" is the funniest line in the live action
i freaked out when the owl came by.......
I was pissed, he suppose to be In his library
This show is SOOOO good. So happy to be rewatching with the two of you.
I love how the same voice actor played both Wan Shi Tong and Masster Oogway. One an owl, the other a tortoise, and both equally amusing.😊
Fun fact: the people in the bar that are talking about how they heard of the avatar are all mentioning events that happened in episodes that weren’t included in the live action signaling to the fans that some of these events are still happening off screen which I thought was a very cool detail they added in 😊
Between you and your wife, and your brother Jaby and Achara, it's all the couples haranguing of ATLA I'll ever need. Love you guys!
I wish we had seen him learn more bending thus far. And definitely could use stronger writing. Love to see the Zuko/Azula plot lines.
The shocked realisation with the ‘he’s of age?’ when Sokka is too cute 😂. I made fun of a friend saying the actor is probably like 17 but luckily Ian is 22 or something 😅.
And then the part admiring the “acting” of the Lady xdd
I think what’s also a thing is that scenes are following each up very quickly.
Gyatso’s Quote about time is the best in the show. It got me pretty emotional.
Aang directly said an episode or so ago that he didn’t want to train yet because Gyatso was the only person he’d trained with.
Ozai putting Azula down as a manipulation tactic is a verry welcome change.
Guess the weight of all the angry guilt tripping, beating a dead horse as all the dialogue around that is, got to me 😂😂
The writers clearly love the Fire Nation because the development of those characters and their relationship are the richest and most interesting (at least for me).
“let’s get rid of John and get a Momo”😭😭
Randall Duk Kim really goes for the wisest characters, one is Oogway and now the Owl.
He is so epic, and Ian who played Sokka ia 21, fam, you're good!
I don't usually watch the commentary after shows like literally ever when you guys do them(sorry😂) but I've watched every after show commentary for this series

0:30 Oh Greg. I think you meant "You squandered it."
the reason why the fire nation was looking for the waterbender in katara's tribe was because Hama escaped fire nation prison so they thought she'd be in the southern water tribe because she came from there
:O I never made that connection before!
They actually hunted the waterbenders because they believed that Aang had already died and they were looking for the next Avatar who would be born into the water tribe.
Love when Olivia thinks a boy is cute and immediately asks if he's of age 😂 The highlights of reactions with her ❤
I don’t get why they made Katara advance with her bending so quickly.
The rules for Koh was you can not show any emotion lest he steel your face.
Just wait until episode 6.
I love what they did with the Firelord. He is an actual character here. In the cartoon Ozai made Darth Vader seem like a multi-faceted character 😱😱😱😱😆
I didnt think they would take it this far for the Spirit World , i was very pleased.
“Let’s get rid of John and get a Momo” 😂
Wan Shi Tong being voiced by Randall Duk Kim (Master Oogway in Kung Fu Panda) is amazing
Through Katara they established that emotional blocks can affect bending especially water bending.
omg i can't unsee the Randall Boggs
not sure why no one else mentioned this, but the opening title and the coin/thing that Sokka picks up contain Chinese character for fire
It’s Olivia’s APPA! Lmao. Love you both and loving your avatar reactions. Can’t wait for episode 6. ❤❤
Is anyone cried to see Aang hugged his old friend
Nah 12:19 took me out 😂😂😂 not Randle
"He's of age, right?" xD
Loving you and your wife’s reactions! Please give us more!!!! Great series so far
Great acting job! I almost believed she was jealous for a second! 😏😏😏😏
MASTER OOGWAYYYYYYYY IS A BIRDDDDDD
Overall, I've liked the show. But they kinda took away aangs entire character arch by removing any real reason for him to feel guilt
Hi Greg... arent you familiar with the actress who plays june? Its Arden Cho... and your brother Anthony has acted with her in a short film here in YT ... lols😂
Ok one question for anyone what ATLA character is your favorite mine is Momo in the animation show
Omg this episode was so good. Every episode improves upon the one before. Scary, creative and I love our trio.
Oh not Randall from Monsters Inc lmao
She keeps asking if these actors are of age. 🤣
Hey I ain’t trying to get cancelled lol
The reason I believe gyatsu was real because katara and soka relived a specific day and aang didn’t .
I felt the same way you felt about this episode but I recommend reserving judgement until the next. Maybe you will change your mind. 🤙🏾
