I remember back in the day me and my friends had a sleepover and we decided to see how long we can run away from Glarthir whilst he keeps following us when you first meet him. I have fond memories of eating pizza and jumping around him for probably a solid hour or so. Wish I could experience so much entertainment from something so boring again haha
I've done that for many years now, to the point I make it a little game every playthrough to try to avoid Glarthir at all costs when I go into Skingrad without fast traveling, even when I have to go there to meet certain people or for certain quests.
Lol this was great. Had not thought of using paint brushes like that! Some ideas: custom spellmaking would be helpful for this challenge. If you make a healing spell on touch rather than on target it will be cheaper for you to cast. I would also consider using buffs like Fortify Strength, Blunt, or Health on Glarthir. Maybe Shield too? For items, carrying around some restore magicka potions would go along way, and since paralysis does not count as an attack (I had never tested that since the UESP says it does) you could potentially get a mages staff of paralysis. It may be that using Demoralize effects of a high enough magnitude to affect the guards (I think they are player level + 10) would be more magicka efficient than Paralysis, though they may risk sending Glarthir on an even more wild goose chase. (I have obviously been wanting to try this challenge myself but unfortunately have not had a computer I can use to play Oblivion for awhile)
Bard: “There’s a lack of structure and organization when bringing this *fetcher* across town” The moment Bard uses ES profanities you know it’s gonna be a good time
you can also do this just by telling him nobody is spying on him, then when he tries to kill you just cast calm and run as far away as possible. eventually he will just give up and won't bother you again although the quest won't finish. i like to see it as sitting him down like "buddy. I'm insane too but chill the fuck out let's talk about this" and magicking him out of his bloodlust lol
This was fun to watch. Like another suggested, the Shield spell would help mitigate the overall damage glarthir takes and help compensate for his lack of armor. Fortifying his strength would help him deal more damage to the guards. Fortifying his blunt skill might help too
Its funny to say to him "oh for sure dude!!! They are totally watching you and planning to do something!" I've always had a love for this quest because it can be so funny and chaotic😂
This challenge feels like the Oblivion equivalent of playing Medic in Team Fortress 2 and trying to keep a Free 2 Play Heavy alive and I love that fact.
If i were to absolutely break this: Glitch a set of Conjuration armor, maybe a weapon to. Enchant the dedric armor, (and weapon) Reverse pickpocket the weightless gear onto the bosmer. I also remember some buff spells under Illusion magic that could improve your ally's hp, could improve his wood elf resilience. I'm also curious how Calm Emotions type spells would effect the guards. If Glarthir would ignore them enough to avoid battle in the streets.
Young me had no idea there were different pathways to quests and I just mindlessly (while slightly intimidated by the potato faces) went through quests not even thinking about consequences 😂
Illusions magick. Charm, invisible, paralyze. All can be applied. But the problem is he's going to get the perminent bounty unless you assassinate his targets before he gets close to one
This is what you do. You use duplicate glitch to get infinite skills and magika. Super speed. You can out run him before he hits his targets. One trick I picked up is you can cast an invisibility spell at the same time as a killing destruction one. Making you be able to kill and be unnoticed. So I cast this spell while invisible. And keep paralyzing, they don't register it's you that's doing it if you set the spell up right. Btw I'm the same guy different account, email makes respond wit this one
why not just hit him with fortify spells? make him a killing machine. could cast shield as well but that's alteration also, can you cast conjure armour spells on other people? could see if you could hit him with a conjured set of armour on top of shield+ fortify edit: just finished and PLEASE retry this after making some custom spells! you could definitely try a calm for 1 second on touch spell bc that would cost almost 0 magicka and disrupt the enemy, fortify in high numbers would make glarthir a god of combat, and conjured armour would just be the nail in everyone's coffin
What about: -Pickpocketing armour onto Glarthir -Giving Glarthir potions -Replacing Glarthir's axe with a better one? -Stealing armour/weapons from Dion and the other guards?
I hope you are still working on your lore and quest and story telling videos. I like to listen to you talk about the lore and the quests in the background while doing other things.
Glarthir, mid killing spree, gossiping about recent murders in cyrodil to dion who desperately wants to kill glarthir but can't because of his ai being busted is so funny
It's a while since I've played Oblivion myself so I'm not sure about this, but is it possible to create a spell of bound weapon/armour on touch/target instead of on self? If it is, buffing Glarthir up with a set of Daedric gear could improve his odds pretty substantially. Some fortify artibute spells would also probably be useful.
@@O-M-0 idk if Conjuration gear on touch was viable, but you could use an Armorer skill exploit to glitch some summoned gear, and potentially Enchant and reverse pickpocket
Could use reflect melee and or shield. Since the rules are loose enough it didn't say that you had to make your way straight to him from the beginning, although that would likely be a bit boring...
@ABardsBallad for context: Get any number of repair hammers (maximum 6), Bound war axe spell, bound armor spell (helmet, hands, pants, shoes, chestplate). For the war axe just hit any enemy or object, repair it then drop it. For the armor pieces you go to the mudcrabs next to the water (Sewer exit from the starting area) Get them to hit you for each armor piece, repair them then drop them. Since all the bound items are considered both weightless and cost 0, you can reverse pickpocket them into Glarthirs' inventory, so he can equip them. Assuming he doesn't for some reason, you can wait an hour so he may equip them. Assuming you grind conjuration (Journeyman max) and have the necessary gold to buy those spells you may be able to stay as a level 1 and let Glarthir defend himself better.
Could you give him enchanted items and weapons that boost his stats and skills? Also, if you character was a better mage could you have done more buffs and healing spells? I kind of forget how Oblivion's spellmaking works, so if I was off my bad.
Very good suggestions! As far as vanilla skills wise, I don’t think there were other buffer skills, but maybe there are avenues to explore with spell crafting! As for enchanted items, I’m not sure if he would have put them on or not / used them but also something to look into!
@@hoffmannsama NPCs will often equip better weapons if reverse pickpocketed into their inventory, then they enter combat. They'll also prioritize named gear in alphabetical order. There's other checks that happen, but when they check their inventory for stuff to equip can vary depending on their AI
Here's how I did it. I managed to get him to kill all 3 and wen he went back to the bridge I nudged glarthir into the corner and placed paintbrushes so he or others couldnt get to him, he was hit by an arrow and stagged backwards on the edge of the grass and sort of slid down the ravine, on his way back to the gate, I aggrod him and made him chase me Into the gold road forest in the middle of nowhere. I charmed him so he wouldnt attack me for a few moments and I penned him in a large area of painbrushes in the woods there and used chameleon to break his aggression. now he just walks in circles talking to himself and nobody comes for him.
why not try and make a spell to help like fortify blunt 100 pts, fortify attribute strength 100 on touch for 1 sec and stand behind Glarthir spamming that spell
Great question! If this is what you had in mind then absolutely! But otherwise, I don’t feel knowledgeable and “qualified” just yet to share my opinion on the best, most optimal builds for oblivion
I didn’t even know he had a war axe in the chest 😂 tbh I wasn’t sure if he was going to take any other weapons or not but definitely something worth exploring!
Ah, yes. Glarthir and Sean Bean, the BEST npc's from the game.
Honestly too true 😂
Finally, the true ending to the quest!
😂 the ending glarthir deserved 🫡
the glarthir gaslighting cpt Dion is what gets me
Resurrecting people is a very guardian angel thing to do. Welcome back to constant death and combat.
Wait, Angel of heaven or hell?
Very true 😂 honestly probably from hell, it felt more like an angel of death role lol

Oblivion from an Adoring Fan perspective
😂 that might be the best way to look at it 😂
The channel has finally fullfilled its name with this healer/bard build.
My goal’s and dreams come true 🫡 time for a new name 👀😂

I love it! These ideas are awesome! Definitely worth exploring some of these one day and running it back!
No Maruhkati Selectives were found during this video!
Edit: NPC fights are one of the most funniest things about Oblivion lol.
😂 nor blades or the mythic dawn! Also the NPC fights are the best 😂
This sounds like hell on earth and im all here for it
😂 it absolutely was 😂
Ah yes the tactical paintbrush, more effective than barbed wire 😂
Thank you for this! I just booted up my 360 and found myself entangled in the Glarthir conundrum.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! :) 😂 none of us can escape it!

Ive never did this quest in this manner. This was interesting to say the least. Well done with this option 👏.
I appreciate it and I’m glad that you enjoyed it! Honestly though I don’t recommend it 😂

i just started playing oblivion again the other day and im glad this showed up in my feed. glarthir is my favorite character 😂

Would you look at that

After all these years I never knew there were consequences for refusing his quest. Neat!

DUDE HE ACTUALLY ATTEMPTED IT. Noice
😂 I hope you enjoyed it! It was a pain the neck 😂
@ABardsBallad It was a lovely romp through oblivion I enjoyed it very much so.
Yes please do more oblivion ai edge case videos 🙌
😂 glad you liked it! I really enjoyed it my time, as much of a pain as it was!
I hope you are still working on your lore and quest and story telling videos. I like to listen to you talk about the lore and the quests in the background while doing other things.
I for sure am! Dropping the Tribunal compilation tomorrow!
Pure water content 💎
Yessir you know it 🫡
Glarthir, mid killing spree, gossiping about recent murders in cyrodil to dion who desperately wants to kill glarthir but can't because of his ai being busted is so funny
You know, if you do an illusion run, you can combo 100 chameleon with charm and pacify to pretend the Npc you hijack is actually the hero of kvatch
That sounds like a crazy combination! 😂
@ABardsBallad be prepared to cheese or set the goal kinda low, as it's very mana consuming

need to make fortify strength and endurance spells to use on glarthir
should have casted protect on glarthir!

What about paralysing Glarthir and pickpocketing enchanted armor onto him?
Wonder what would have happened if you entered his home, stole the battleaxe and left another weapon for him there
🤔 that’s an interesting idea, put down like Goldbrand or something crazy instead 😂
i bet you could replace glarthirs axe with a OP enchanted deadric axe
loved it!!!!!!!!!!
I really appreciate it! It was equally fun and hard to go through!
Okay but like, if people aren't watching him how could you be there just in time to protect him?
Glarthir confirmed?
We’re all Glarthir 👀 👀 👀
Can you beat Oblivion with the Annoying fan as your companion and keeping him alive the whole time
I love it 😂 the ultimate challenge, I have no idea how he survives the traps 😂
@@ABardsBallad Youll figure it out 😅

I didn’t even know he had a war axe in the chest 😂 tbh I wasn’t sure if he was going to take any other weapons or not but definitely something worth exploring!
But do we really want him alive, really? 🤣
I don’t think we do 😂

Hell yeah
