If Louis had shortened his program by 5 minutes every episode, he could have had a five minute segment at the end of each one called, "The Remarkablely Unremarkable Adventures of Todd Barry", and it would be things like Todd getting a coke from a hotel vending machine, but the machine gives him extra change, so now he's all smug about getting the extra change, and he tells this attractive woman passing by that the vending machine gave him extra change, but she's not interested, but her plainer friend gives him a kind of interested look, so Todd smiles at her and then sips his coke.

Todd is about to complain but then someone next to him compliments him on his taste. So Todd thinks yeah maybe I deserve this, and begins to strike up a conversation with the stranger next to him.
Nice zombie background... Every detail, the layers in conversation, the facial expressions,... Louis really is on top of things. I wish someone had the balls to give him the opportunity of a follow up. Best television ever.
Louis said that he'd run out of ideas for 'that guy', even though I was thinking 'that guy' is basically him, so it makes me wonder how exactly that is possible. Anyway, maybe it was for the best. In the last season, it was turning into Synecdoche, New York. Very moody and conceptual. The hilarious comedy was kind of gone, and it was really the fusion between that and the existential angst which made earlier seasons really work.
It's easier to fill a background with monotonous behavior than having to direct extras to have fake conversations in the background. Plus idiots will think its some sort of social commentary.
I worked with a guy years ago and whenever I would do something wrong he would say something like "way to go stupid" and I would lmao. Love joking with good friends like that. Miss you, Chuck.
