I was sitting at the piano one evening (that’s when all the arrangement ideas seem to happen for me these days, haha), thinking of a tune to arrange, and I randomly started playing The Roost! This was one of the first video game songs I ever covered on piano - there’s even a video of me playing it on the RUclips channel I had before insaneintherainmusic, so a very long time ago! I had an idea to turn this tune into a Disney-esque ballad, something that retained the quiet majesty of The Roost / Brewster, while also being triumphant to celebrate Brewester’s return to Animal Crossing New Horizons. This was a bit of a challenge since the original theme is relatively short, but with a lot of creative arranging, including composing an original B section based on the original melody of the tune, I came up with this arrangement - hope you dig it!
I wish I had video of all the other orchestral elements in this arrangement to show, but they're mostly sample libraries! If you're curious, I'm using Spitfire Chamber Strings for this, and Vienna Symphonic Library for the harp, celesta, and timpani.

The Roost was worth the several-year wait, and so was this arrangement.
Years and years ago, my dad loved to play City Folk after long, arduous days at work. One of his favorite locations in the game was the cafe- a daily, piping hot coffee was always in his routine. Even when newer titles were available, he always preferred City Folk because of the connections he made with his favorite characters.
Listening to this cover, and hearing the music swell with overwhelming emotion and nostalgia, I started bawling. He's been gone for years now, but this cover feels like a piece of him has come back into my life, even momentarily. Thank you for giving such a beautiful performance.
I mean this with all sincerity, I really love how you said "yeah so I'm not going to do many covers anymore" and then proceded to put out a couple covers that are some of the best you've literally ever done. This is one of my favorite covers I think I've ever heard. Love your content Carlos, whatever you put out there it feels like it's always amazing !!!

As a devoted fan of classic Disney, I have to say that whenever you commit to this, as you call it, “Disney-esque” arrangement style, you knock it out of the park. Good lord, this arrangement is literally perfect at capturing that essence; I could tell immediately from the reharmonization at 0:06 that I was in for a nostalgic trip back to the lounge of a Disney hotel or something…something I would never really associate with how I view the original Roost theme! Excellent job as always!👏
Thank you! I think of that Disney sound as evoking some kind of classy nostalgia, and those are the feelings I have for The Roost - plus it was a simple ballad to begin with.
@@insaneintherainmusic Personally I don't associate this style with Disney at all. It sounds exactly like Roger Williams' covers of songs from the 40s 50s and 60s. If I didn't know what it was and I was hearing it for the first time I'd wonder which Roger Williams performance this was and how I missed it. :) Maybe someday you'll get a real string orchestra to perform this with you. Even so it sounds super nice.
I would just like to point out for those who don’t read the description that Carlos composed an entirely new B section just for this arrangement. Just incredible.
This feels like it would play as a send-off to Brewster on his final day working at the Roost, with Blathers, K.K. and Tom Nook giving him a silent send-off as he heads off into the downpour under an umbrella... amazing stuff.
Someone needs to animate this scene and put this rendition in the background
It seems like every video I get to watch you take another step towards being an accomplished musician and composer. I wish nothing but the absolute best for you. Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl. To the moon, maestro, to the moon.

this is exactly how a good cup of coffee should sound like: rich, full of flavour, the perfect bittersweet notes to make it a memorable experience, but most of all, it's warm and comforting. i've had synesthesia for years but this has been the strongest i've seen the warm colours of an autumn sunset, and it's incredibly comforting, beautiful composition carlos i can't want to see what else you have in store :"))

This may have been one of the most beautiful covers you've ever put out. From the homage to the original track, to a very "What a Wonderful World" style in the middle, and the beautiful modulations towards the end, this is truly a great cover. Thank you for covering and giving great service to a classic.

I've never thought of a jazz cover of this but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. I really liked the small touches you added in this one like the cymbals. I'd keep talking about it but Brewster would get mad if I let my coffee get any colder, sorry!

This is so bittersweet after the announcement video. Makes me almost wanna tear up lol. Definitely a beautiful arrangement of a wonderful song.
Every time I listen to this song I get chills. Wild World was one of my first video games ever and I have so many memories of it. This always brings so much of the best nostalgia.

Man, even though I only heard this as a kid when playing New Leaf in what feels like an eternity ago (I'm Still In High School and Covid has kind of screwed up my sense of time and memories at this point) it just makes me feel so nostalgic and happy as if pre pandemic 2013ish was just a dream with how life is now compared to then. I don't have any particular nostalgia for this song or Animal Crossing, but I've been coming back to this cover over and over again. Easily one of your best in my opinion, I can't imagine this song being covered any better.

I don't actually play Animal Crossing, but I've been in love with this tune ever since I first heard it used in MarioKart 8. I definitely agree with the consensus that this is one of your best covers, period - and I'd probably place it right at the top of your piano covers!

Also a funny story and warning: When you talk to Brewster in New Horizons on the random Kapp’n island, make sure that you go back to Blathers and tell him! I didn’t and now have to wait until tomorrow for the Roost to open…ah well. I could send myself one day to the future, but it’ll be less satisfying, and after all, it’s only a day.
